The headline first said 91 mph but the story seems to have changed, again. Some stories do say 91: Corzine's SUV traveling 91 mph at time of crash. There are several issues here. They blamed the crash on a red pick up and ran an APB for days. No charges were pressed when they found the driver, I wonder why?
As the two-car motorcade headed north -- with emergency lights on -- Kenneth Potts, 20, of Little Egg Harbor pulled to the shoulder to let the vehicles pass. But Potts told police he hit a soft spot on the shoulder and veered his car left back onto the Parkway.
A second vehicle, a white pickup driven by John M. Carrino Jr., 24, of Glenwood, also veered left to avoid collision, but wound up striking Corzine's vehicle, which then crashed into a guard rail.
Perhaps everyone would have avoided any accident had the governor's car been traveling at a rate of speed they allow us to drive. And in NJ you get a ticket for not driving with your seat belt on. There are two Americas, or at least two New Jerseys, alright. The politically connected and the not. And if you an are not, you had better follow the law.
It's a shame he was injured so badly. But this still points out a major problem with government at almost every level. This do as we say not as we do crap has to stop.
TRENTON, N.J. - A state official says the driver of Gov. Jon S. Corzine's SUV was speeding when it crashed on the Garden State Parkway.
The official, who has knowledge of the investigation, declined to say how fast the SUV was traveling. The posted speed limit on the parkway is 65 mph.
The official spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.
State police were expected to release details on the accident Tuesday afternoon.
The report that the SUV was speeding seemed to conflict with what state police Superintendent Col. Rick Fuentes said hours after the accident when Fuentes said speed did not appear to be a factor.
"From our preliminary investigation, it looks as if the trooper did a tremendous job in maintaining what control he could over that vehicle, given the fact that the other vehicle swerved into his path," Fuentes said Thursday.

Something tells me if he had been a Republican you would have been saying how important it was that the Governor's motorcade be unimpeded by such minor annoyances as speed limits, me thinks you would have said if the Gov's motorcade was speeding there was doubtless some national or state security issue at hand and who are we to question the government.
But, Corzine's a Democrat, so, even though he's severely injured facing a long rehab, let's kick him while he's down and use a speeding MOTORCADE as an example of government run amok.
However, you don't mind that the president of the united states desires to turn the us attorney's office into his personal dirty tricks brigade. Got it.

Way to show more liberal hypocrissy NoBrain. You show no sympathy for the victims murdered thru no fault of their own, but want to defend this jerkoff who so far is going away unpunished. Drop dead, jackass.

You're right. Corzine deserved it. He's a trator and terrorist sympathizer. When he gets out of the hospital he should be stripped of the governorship and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
However, I doubt there is much of a punishment for being a passenger in a speeding car while not wearing a seatbelt. But, then let's call for changes to the laws. Let's call for a long prison term for lawbreakers like Corzine!!! It's disgusting to commit that kind of a crime while governor, speeding, and no seat belt?!! 10 years hard time.

It is tragic that the Governor almost lost his life in this accident, and I hope he makes a full recovery. BUT, 91 mph is way too fast for an emergency vehicle, based on the traffic conditions. And what was the emergency that justified the high speeds and reckless driving.....a meeting with Imus and the Rutger's basketball team!
Dick Cheney had a hunting accident in which no laws were broken, but a lot of grandstanding took place. It appears, in this accident, laws were broken and lives were put at risk. It will be interesting to see what kind of legs this story has.

Isn't it the state of New Jersey that is looking for a state theme? How about "Do as we say, but not as we do".

The state trooper driving the SUV should be fired and fined for not insuring his passenger was buckled-up. Also, going for a meeting with the basketball team to further harass Mr Imus was not an emergency. No reason for going over 26 MPH over the posted speed limit, and to endanger the lives of others, just because the state trooper is above the law. Too bad he wasn't killed. The governer sure sets an example for all police to follow.

I haven't read anything about the driver being subjected to a breathalizer test.

Their plans for a scapegoat really peetered out when the driver of the red truck turned out to be 'special needs' and have a perfectly good explanation for his maneuvering. Had it been an unemployed black man, they'd be making room in prison for him right now.
In truth - they knew from the beginning that the governor's vehicle was speeding - excessively - in rush hour traffic, and that people were trying to get out of the way of his 'emergent' processesion.
It is simply disgusting - Republican or Democrat.
Nowinger - you're a tool. You're the FIRST ONE to mention party affiliation - and of course you do it while accusing us of being party nazis. What a moron. But your near psycho defensiveness shows us how concious you are of this dumb bastard's ignorance - there may be hope for you yet.

Why didn't the airbags deploy? Do the seatbelts have to be engaged for this to happen? I have a pre airbag car so I am not sure how this would occur.

His 91mph truck could have killed several dozen people, perhaps more than VT, but yet the media merely presented the quick fact and kept silence. Why? Because Mr Rich Banker spread a lot of cash around amongst the Big Media last election, and Big Media wants more money during his next election. Turns out not having money in this country could have you demonized by the press and perhaps lynched! (Mr Rich Banker has money therefore was not)

Jesus Christ. Just about everyone speeds. People routinely don't wear their seatbelts.
These are called traffic violations. If you commit one you get a ticket and pay a fine. They aren't criminal offenses and the fact that the governor's motorcade did it doesn't mean there are "two Americas."

There's a tendency for uber liberals who have 200 million dollars to think they can walk on water.
They can't.
