Hard to know what to make of this paper allegedly written by Virginia Tech shooter Cho. It's bad. It's crazy. If he was attempting to write serious fiction, given his age, I imagine it might set off an alarm. It's high school-ish, vulgar, violent and crude. Does that a mass murderer make?

If that really is from him, it really is bad. I couldn't even finish it.

Just read the whole thing. No wonder he was refered to counseling...yeesh.

That was Hamlet's problem also. His father murdered so his step father could get his mother.

aside from tarantino's admittedly-quite-clever 'mobius strip' temporal structure, i don't see all that much difference between cho's dreck and 'pulp fiction'. or 'saw 3'. or 'turistas'. or any one of the hundreds of slasher movies the kids and the liberal elite all tell us are completely harmless and just good fun.

Why is it we always have such a hard time spotting the crazies before they blow a fuse? I mean we all know the type right? Loner, lives with parents (in basement or attic take your pick),very nice but quiet and writes really, really weird stuff. Why then when these guys snap do we act suprised. Just asking the same old questions I guess. Sigh.
Posted by: southdakotaboy | Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 03:54 PM
Islam made him snap, I thought this had been proven already?
Posted by: nowinger | Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 03:57 PM
Pulp Fiction was good. Tarantino hasn't done anything worth watching since. Maybe he did steal that script since it was way smarter than anything else he's written.
BTW, the BTK killer was a pillar of the community and people were shocked to find it was him since he was allegedly so nice.

One of the victims was named Maxine Turner. She was from Vienna, Virginia. She was a senior set to graduate in 3 wweks. She was a straight A engineering student who had won a 2,000 dollar scholarship in engineering back in 2003. She was a victim of a nut case who obtained a handgun legally at a gun store in Roanoke, Virginia recently.
Posted by: nova | Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 04:15 PM
That's just it Hard Right we always use the same terms to describe these guys and we always get that same shocked speach from the little old lady who lived next door "he was such a nice boy" crap.
I'm not making light of the whole thing, I'm just really, really tired of this thing getting spun the same way. The teacher and councilors who delt with this kid and knew he was troubled should have had him in the funny farm long before this. We need to worry more about keeping bad people off the streets and less about offending libs.
Posted by: southdakotaboy | Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 04:19 PM
Seriously, we can't start incarcerating high school and college kids for being 'troubled' or writing violent fantasies. Depending on what is true, if this guy was suspected of calling in bomb threats, stalking women, setting fire to his dorm, then it seems clear he was a threat to himself and other students and he should have been removed from campus after the second incident. But, you really need something more than bad poetry or being a loner to deprive someone of their freedom.
Of course, if he had converted to Islam then he obviously was a terrorist and should have been investigated and deported at the least.

Gotta think that he was gonna flunk out in English, his major, with this kind of crap. Lotza over-the-top things happen around finals time.

I understand what you are saying and agree with you. Just wanted to point out not all are so obvious. Also, not all of the nuts like him go postal. Some just continue to be Dems. :)
Posted by: Hard Right | Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 04:31 PM
he didn't live at home, he lived in a dorm.
You cons are sad too, using this tragedy to score points off the Dems. The spin never stops on warblogs I guess
Posted by: LOL | Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 04:39 PM
Hey LOL, the only ones trying to score points on this has been you lefties you flaming hypocrite. Take a look at the previous threads to see what I mean.

"Loner, lives with parents (in basement or attic take your pick),very nice but quiet and writes really, really weird stuff. Why then when these guys snap do we act suprised."
Because that would make half the libs here serial killers and they ain't all that.

There are several things about this mass murder that bother me, some touched on by other people on this blog, and some that have occurred to me today as I have had time to think about it.
Number one, I am gravely disappointed at both the Administration at VTU, the campus police, and the Blacksburg police. The Administration should have warned its students about the murders that had previously occurred, and all students should have been advised to stay in their rooms until the situation was resolved, or at least should have been given the information so they could at least make an informed choice as to whether to go to class. It's as if we learn nothing, NOTHING, from these past experiences, such as Colombine.
Following the initial murders, the campus police should have had a major presence on campus in an attempt to find this guy, and if they did not have the manpower, then they should have called the Blacksburg police, and even the State Police for backup. If the police presence had been large enough, perhaps this guy would have been discouraged. But a major, and I mean, major, effort should have been instituted to catch this guy.
Hadn't VTU just had a shooting back in August? And apparently nothing was learned from it. No warning system for students, no police protection, no nothing for students. As a student, you're unarmed, unprotected, and disrespected.
Fire the chief of campus police, the president of the university, and anyone who is in charge of campus security. Dammit, enough is enough.
Posted by: templar knight | Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 05:20 PM
Did you not know the shooter was a violent IslamOfascist, carrying out a jihad? Making allegedly practical solutions like having police not assume some guy who just murdered two people on campus was no longer a threat and that acting like he might pose a threat to the other students would have been prudent, misses the point. This is about radical islam, or hadn't you heard?
Posted by: nowinger | Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 05:27 PM
I sincerely doubt that anyone in charge at VTU was concerned about any Arab or jihad, or anything else for that matter, other than figuring out a way to prevent the news of the first murders from getting out to the media. Wouldn't want to give the university a bad name and all, and discourage any parents from sending their kids there. I know where the concern lay, and now, look what we have. Fire the whole lot of them.
Posted by: templar knight | Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 06:00 PM
I don't know if it was that craven or not. I would have to believe they really though the shooter had left the campus, otherwise its gross negligence. I tend to think though when someone shoots down two people in a dorm with a gun, that unless you have caught the perpetrator, you should exercise an abundance of caution and cancel all classes for that day, send the kids back to their dorms and call in the staties. What the facts of the previous shooting were would also factor into evaluation whether this response was reasonable or not.
People have to balance caution with reasonableness. I don't think we know enough about what the college police did/knew/didn't know/didn't do to make a final judgement on whether their reaction was reasonable.
Posted by: nowinger | Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 06:10 PM
Well, nowinger, I'm going by the information I believe to be accurate, and as you know, sometimes things are not what they seem, but after the shooting in August, I would have thought these security people would take a double homicide VERY serious, and not treat it like a routine thing.
As far as I can asertain, the vast majority of students were totally unaware of what happened earlier, and I think many of them would have been very concerned about an armed man known to have just killed two people loose on campus. I feel like I've just watched one of those 'slasher' movies. The kids don't resist, no help comes, the police act as if nothing is happening, and we are all screaming at the kids about to be slaughtered, "Don't go in there", or "Run like hell", or "Everyone rush the guy at the same time and take his weapon away", or whatever. I feel like I've entered "The Twilight Zone", and that everything will be alright just as soon as I exit this movie theatre.

ah the con needs a chopping block victim. No Muslim horde, no captured perpetrator to act out your sadistic electric chair/nuclear holocaust fantasies, so you go for the next best thing... Let's FIRE A WHOLE BUNCH OF PEOPLE.
Nevermind that university personnel almost never have to deal with something like this. Nevermind that day-to-day functioning is crucial to running a proper institution. OFF WITH THEIR HEADS
sadism is the defining character trait of warbloggers and their ilk
Posted by: LOL | Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 09:38 PM
LOL, VTU had already had a shooting in August. What do you mean? They damn well should have been ready, but no, a liberal always has a damn excuse. But not this time, dickhead. Someone at VTU let their students down, and lives were lost as a result. I'm held accountable where I work, and if I screwed up like this, I would lose my job. And so should these clowns at VTU. They have had warnings which they chose to ingore. It's time for them to go.
And firing people who either can't or won't protect students will hardly affect the day-to-day functioning of a university, and as a matter of fact, will rather enhance it.
And to define someone who wants incompetants fired as sadistic is the mark of a clown, which is exactly what you are LOL, and you chose your nick well. Fucking clown indeed is what you are!

You notice he doesn't address any of my points. And yes, I'm angry. Damn right. I'm angry about the useless loss of so much human potential.

In addition to the twisted writing, he started a fire in his dorm room and stalked women. Two instructors had him removed from their classes. YET NOTHING WAS DONE. Shades of Columbine all over again. They had clear warnings signs and did nothing. Now 32 people are dead. Way to go guys.
Posted by: Hard Right | Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at 10:35 AM
Right on Hard Right. Clear warnings on this nut case yet nothing was done. For over two years he was a problem at VT yet nothing was done. Why? Now the cover up will begin. CYA all the way from the Governor's "independent commission" to the school response. Silence on hanggun control(even just reducing the size of ammo clips) from gutless Democrats in Congress.

I teach high school, this was NOT high school work, beyond terrible.

That is some crappy writing. But then, if he was smart he would have gotten in to UVA not the home of the 'hokies'.
Posted by: Johnnie | Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at 11:40 AM
This young man was mentally ill, period! No ifs, ands or buts. Someone should have seen to it that the school administration and his parents' were aware. When people write anything, a portion of who they are, what they think and feel about themselves and the world will come through, no matter what. This young man had extremely serious mental problems, but in order to be politically correct, no one said a word. They are as much to blame as he was.
