The British service personnel held hostage in Iran said they were blindfolded, bound and threatened with seven years in prison if they didn't admit they had strayed into Iranian waters.

I don't know enough to make a case with facts, but it seems to me most of the 'big' countries do all kinds of behind-the-scenes wheeling and dealing all the time. Loyalties come and go, enemies become friends. It is Machiavellian. It must drive foreign embassy people nuts trying to keep up with how much security they need or don't need. Are you serious? How does any of Iran's treatment exceed the treatment that the US has admitted to using? i.e. waterboarding, dogs, threats, etc.
