A Liberal Death Wish?

The lede in this story involves Pelosi and Lantos being open to another diplomatic trip, this one to Iran. But this last paragraph shouldn't be buried. The legislation is already proposed. Didn't we learn anything from Clinton and Korea? And what about non-proliferation? Now we're simply going to give everyone nuke capability? Are they nuts?

Lantos noted that "with the speaker's support,'' he has co-sponsored legislation in the House that calls for making available to all countries -- including Iran -- nuclear fuel for peaceful purposes under international oversight by establishing a "nuclear fuel bank."

"So if the Iranian president says that he is developing (nuclear material) for peaceful purposes, we are assisting him in that process,'' said Lantos, who anticipated the legislation could pass as early as May.

i am guessing these are the same democrats that think talking can solve every problem - so they rush to talk with a syrian dictator but refuse to meet with bush about funding the troops - the troops they 'support'

Yeah, because bombing has worked out so wonderfully over the past 6 years.

idiotic, childlike liberals raised in an atmosphere of constant & unearned self-esteem brownie points ("no need to keep score, kids! *everyone* gets a 'champion' trophy!!") will of course deny a death wish. since they're incapable of critical, rational thought, it's illogical to hope for any degree of accurate self-awareness from them. (see above, and elsewhere)

perhaps, instead of a concept of 'deathwish' entirely too advanced for their vestigial pea-like "brains", perhaps their actions can be explained as a deep, corrosive, entirely unconscious self-*hatred*?

Thank you, Dr. Krauthammer.

add a new bureaucrat at the top.

Assad and Ahmadinejad are emailing each other saying stuff like..."What's with these talkative assholes coming over from America? They're boring me already."

Ahmadinejad looks sane compared to Pelosi and Lantos. 'Looks'? Hell, he is a hundred times smarter than those two.

Clinton foolishly gave the DPRK nuclear reactors as a bribe (which didn't work). The Iranians rightly expect foolishness too now that democrats are in control.

scarstar the bombing has gone on far longer than 6 years. You're in college, tell us exactly what year Bill Clinton started it. I'll give you a hint... Operation Desert Fox.

To be liberal is to be naive beyond belief. "International oversite"? Like oil for food? This is worse than stupid. This is the essence of criminal negligence.

OMG, a spello by yours truly (caused by no editing oversight).

On a completely different note:
Spooning.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spooning

"Contrary to popular belief, spooning requires keen technique and encompasses a wide array of norms to adhere to. Failure to recognize and abide to these norms often result in public ridicule, skepticism of gender /sexuality, (and in rare instances) social ostracism. All too frequently, spooning can be poorly executed. One can cite "The Big Spoon - Little Spoon Fiasco" as one of the greatest blunders in spooning history."

The look of utter shock on the libs faces when the Iranians build a nuke and use it on Israel would be funny, if it wouldn't be for all the dead people. Ofcourse the Dem base really doesn't count Jews as people anymore. To know this all you have to do is go over to the daily kos sometime.
I think that once the Iranians use a nuke that is the point when we just round up the Democratic Leadership.
This might not work out as bad as what some of us conservatives have been thinking. The Israelies have developed an anti-balistic missle missle. I think it is called the Arrow. I wonder if the nut jobs that run Iran would just launch the first one they had thinking Allah would guide it.
What would be the proper response against a nation that had just unsucessfully launched a nuclear attack against you?

Classic liberal technique employed by Zifnab the Islamist. When the topic is really embarrassing and you can't lie your way out -change the topic.

The liberal creed is that "evil" is the victim of "good". They also feel that evil has been wrongly labeled as such by good-and "good" is the real villain.
That is why they think if they just talk to evil and show evil they can be trusted everything will be resolved.

So fellow Conservatives, remember the above at all times and you'll understand the libs and their mental illness.

I just don't know how to respond to "OMG! THEY WANT TO KILL US!" rhetoric every time the Democrats propose a solution to the Iranian nuclear problem that doesn't involve the Hiroshima solution.

So screw it. Sensible debate has been pitched out of the window in favor of demagoguery and stupidity. If that's what this thread is going to be about, then I'm going all in.

Spooning is fun and entertaining. Discuss.

“So far, say Democratic pollster Celinda Lake, voters increasingly see Democrats as representing a “new direction,” but what that means exactly still needs to be “filled with specifics.”

TIME 4/16/07

Note to Ms. Lake: No shit, sister.

No Zifnab the administration has been following a much different line with Iran than that. If you look closely we have them almost entirely surrounded geographicly. We have been getting more and tougher sanctions put in place. Lastly we have been encouraging home grown resistance to the government (both peacefull and violent).
All of these steps have put them under alot of presure and this whole British hostage crisis might just have shown the cracks in their leadership. In order for the carrot to be successful though you need a stick and our millitary option is a very big stick.

Nice straw man Zif. As usual you are guilty of the very thing you accuse others of.

Iran has openly stated they want us obliterated. Yet we are going to hand them the means to make the weapons to destroy us with. Do you really think that's ok Ziff?
Of course you do. Evil is the victim of good. Iran just wants peace and the mean ol U.S. won't allow it. Iran couldn't possibly want to do what they say. We just don't understand their culture and who could blame them for being defensive after what we've done to them. Give them what they want and they'll behave.

I know you lefties backwards and forwards.

It's even better than that, HR. There is not one country over there that wants Iran to have power. And countries over there don't think in terms of idle chatter to settle power struggles.

I'd love to know the behind-the-scenes stuff going on.

"The look of utter shock on the libs faces when the Iranians build a nuke and use it on Israel would be funny, if it wouldn't be for all the dead people."

Yes, I'm sure the Iranians have a tremendous desire to get nuked about 15 times in response.

"In order for the carrot to be successful though you need a stick and our millitary option is a very big stick."

Ultimately, nuclear power is the carrot. Iran doesn't have the resources to make use of its own natural reserves (and even if they did, no one outside Iran wants the country to increase its own demand). The country wants to grow its economy and advance along the tech curve, just like every other country. It needs energy to do that. And there are ways of building reactors that don't lend themselves to building nukes.

Think about it. Who would you rather have building nuclear power plants in Iran? US contractors overseen by US politicians, or Iranian scientists tinkering without a lick of oversight? We're selling them the energy they crave in exchange for an incredibly heavy hand in how they produce and use it. Isn't that exactly what we want anyway?

scarshapedstar you are making the typical lib mistake of thinking that the mullahs in charge of Iran right now are using western style logic. Let me clue you in there is a faction in power in Iran right now that is just a bit nuts. They believe that the Twelfth Imman will come back to earth at the end of time to bring about paradise. The whole 72 vigins and everything. So there are rather good odds that when they get the bomb they plan to use it. Ofcourse they might try and ship the thing to the west bank just to be able to deny it, but the point is these guys are just a tad unreasonable about letting Jews live if they can help it.

You're talking about the guys who invented chess. They may use their fairy tales to rile people up, but they've got their own agenda, and a big part of it involves staying alive. Bear in mind, the Iranian people aren't on board with a national martyrdom initiative one bit, either.

scarshapedstar think about the Japanese during WWII. They were highly inteligent people who were perfectly capable of committing suicide on a massive scale. We all know that we dropped two bombs on Japan before they gave up, but what you might not know is that after the decision to give up had been made there was an almost successful coup attempt. They wanted to keep fighting it took the personal orders of the Emperor to get them to stop.
We are dealing with that same kind of situation here. You are absolutely right in saying that most people in Iran don't want this. However there are enough "true believers" in the Revolutionary Guard to make the possibility very plausable.

good point there, sd boy. saaay, how DID we beat those crazy little shits in the war anyway?

did we negotiate real good? build common ground? reach out to them?

no: we killed the shit out of them. killed SO many, SO fast, that the survivors decided it'd be better to behave themselves and end the war.

ziffy? vickie? care to comment?

Liberal logic. Thanks for the laugh junior Islamist.

There’s no need to fear the leader of a people who invented chess- a game where one uses deception and cunning to destroy the enemy. By that logic we had no reason to fear the leader of a people who invented kindergarten.

And Zifnab it seems you are even wrong about who invented chess.

Wikipedia
The origins of chess is one of most controversial topics in chess history. Countries which, at one time or the other, have been associated with the invention of chess include India, China, Iran, Egypt, Assyria, Arabia, Greece, Ireland and Uzbekistan. Though many countries claim to have invented the chess game in some incipient form, the most commonly held view is that chess originated in India.[1]. In the past only India had all three animals, horse, camel and elephant, in its cavalry, which represent knight, bishop and rook in chess.
The present version of chess played throughout the world is ultimately based on a version of chaturanga that was played in India around the 6th century. It is believed that the Persians subsequently created a more recognizable version of the game called chatrang, later known as shatranj. Perhaps the earliest literary reference to chess is found in the Middle Persian book Karnamak-i Artaxshir-i Papakan, which was written between the 3rd to 7th century. This ancient Persian text refers to Shah Ardashir I, who ruled from 224–241, as a master of the game. Karnamak contains many fables and legends, however, suggesting only the popularity of shatranj at the time of its composition.
A competing theory is that chess arose from the similar game of xiangqi (Chinese chess), or at least a predecessor thereof, existing in China since the 2nd century BC. Scholars who have favored this theory include Joseph Needham and David H. Li.[2]

I take it you either didn’t read Amaddinnerjacket’s enraptured “12th Imam speech” to the U.N. or you didn’t understand it.

Try to catch up.

Sorry junior Islamist. My post ought to have been directed at scarstar.

Catch up scarstar. Tell us that you read that "coming of the 12th Imam speech" to the U.N and it means nothing.

Zif, are you a Muslim? If not I'll just have to call you a moron who can't face reality.

Dan
As you know John McCain delivered a major speech today on the Iraq War. The speech may be found here.

http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/News/Speeches/52897ce6-65cd-4166-a62f-3cc6d25e1a0a.ht

It is a speech every patriotic American should read. Unfortunately, as is apparent from reading the comments at this site, there are many Americans who prefer the short term interests of their political party to the long term interests of their country.

John Hinderaker of Power Line sums up this phenomenon and McCain’s candidacy perfectly.

“We are living through a depressing political season, in which craven political calculation routinely trumps concern for national security, and many on the left openly cheer for defeat. In this environment, John McCain has flung down the gauntlet on behalf of victory, and we applaud him for it.”

Terry,

Brit and his cohorts talked about this tonight. They were all very impressed that McCain quite literally stepped out of the realm of politics and threw down the gauntlet.

That phrase: "...craven political calculation routinely trumps concern for national security..." is right-on and no more apparent than in Pelosi and her cadre of craven fools. I have to applaud McCain. I wonder if the others will rush to catch up to his challenge.

So Zif are you a muslim? Me? I'm agnostic. You?

St P.

I try to watch Brit & co every night. It's very rare that I get to see a sane liberal (Mort) and Fred and Charles are terrific.

HR

Zif, BIS and scarstar are either Islamists or liberals, not that it makes much difference. One is the enemy. The other is cheering for the enemy.

Me, too, Terry. I never miss Brit. He has some terrific people on his panel. (although Mara Eliason doesn't say much). My favorite is Charles. Mort is so gracious. I like Chris Wallace on Sundays when Brit is part of the panel. Juan gets under Brit's skin so bad, it's funny. Bill Kristol balances Fred out and they make a great pair. <--- My favorite neocons.

But of all of them, I think Michael Barone might be the best - but only in the sense that he is completely objective and totally given over to facts. He is a savant. And what a neat guy.

(I sound like one of those idiot women who chase celebrities for sleazy magazines.... :) Oh well... I love my guys.
