Poor Obey.....never thought I would say that.

You can see his COS trying to get him into the office... before he told more of the truth.

Can anyone imagine the creepy Stalinist apology (if not outright resignation) that would be drawn out if a Republican had the gall to utter the words "idiot conservatives"?

No gonna happen, Republicans are united, unlike the Democrat party who are unorganized and all over the board.

We're all over the board? You guys are sizing up a candidate who's for gay marriage and abortion and you can't come to an agreement on immigration and we're all over the place? How does Guiliani match up with Fred Thompson?

He doesn't... we aren't all the same... we are just united... We have different ideas, but at we united behind our leaders. Nancy Pelosi has one of the biggest majorities ever and she hasn't really managed to pass anything significant... Dingy Harry has a majority, and the Republicans are managing to modify bills, and and stop non binding resolutions...
Why haven't you guys cut funding yet? Why haven't you added clauses to the spending bill that would force willdrawl? Why haven't taken away authorization for the war?
For the most part we are behind our leader (of course their are exceptions)... but in the House the Blue Dogs are just a bunch or DINOs and are basically just making life hard for the dems and easy for the republicans. Remember before 2004 Republicans got everything through - with near unity. Again, there are exceptions. But 8 weeks in and the Democrats are in all directions.

My oh my Jeff, what color is the sky in your world because you and that Mensa mind of yours is not living on the same planet as the rest of us?

The Republicans may be diverse in their policies and practices - for/against gay marriage, for/against civil rights, for/against the war, for/against a given flavor of Jesus - but there's one thing they can all agree on, and that's "We all vote Republican for some reason".

The left-most Republican is generally a few orders of magnitude saner than the left-most Democrat.
But even Pelosi the Magnificent and her Donkey Kongress cannot defund the war (because stopping the cash flow and leaving our troops stranded would ensure that they never get re-elected again) and an attempt to "revoke" the loose authorization for the GWOT would require a supermajority, because the Almighty Pen of VETO would come out from its glass case.
So, short of pulling the government down by the power of skullduggery (i.e. preventing a budget from passing altogether, resulting in a government shutdown) ... the boys will be getting what they need to get their mission done.

Zif,
You have something there. Except I'd drop the civil rights thing - for both parties, that's passe. But I think the same can be said for democrats in that they'll vote democratic just because they will not vote republican.
I give you credit for not lumping. There are plenty of Republicans who are pro-choice, not believers, and who don't care about homosexuality.
In a way, I have an automatic metric against a person who says, "I"m a diehard Republican." ...or "diehard Democrat." Who in this day and age can say that and consider himself a free-thinker?

Phoenix, before you give the POS too much credit, he's the one who says we are "economically raping Iraq daily".

HR,
Just taking the post singularly. It's a relief sometimes, you know. Plus, give credit where it's due.
I don't get the "economically raping Iraq" stuff. I guess that's part of war on both sides if you want to use such terms. For sure, we are not purposefully 'raping' them. If we can help that country become a capitalist democracy, they'll be richer than any country in the Middle East. How cool would that be? It will probably take a couple of generations of young people growing up thinking as individuals without the mindset of the former oppression, but I have great hope for them.
