Let's see ... a politically appointed and recently fired prosecutor, David C. Iglesias, has an Op-Ed in the New York Times:
But you don't have to read the Op-Ed to know why, Iglesias, a Republican was fired. When, after 4-5 years the President removes you from a mid-level political post he appointed you to in the first place and you go off and write an Op-Ed for the New York Times, it seems pretty clear to me you were fired for being an asshole.
Which, by the way, is more than enough cause for the President to act in this case. Bush doesn't need a rationale, which is the real joke in all this nonsense. Maybe Iglesias wants back the $1,800 he and his wife kicked in to Domenici, Wilson and Bush, perhaps to help him get the damned thing in the first place. Just search the FEC for his last name and New Mexico if you want the source.
His appointment is so average in the grand scheme, you have to read 3/4 of the way down to even find it here. Looks like he had a White House Fellowship during the Clinton years.
The President intends to nominate David C. Iglesias to be United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico. He is presently an Associate with Walz and Associates in Albuquerque as well as a Commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve JAG Corps. He served as General Counsel to the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department from 1998 to 2001 and was Chief Counsel to the New Mexico Risk Management Legal Office from 1995 to 1998. Iglesias completed a White House Fellowship as a Special Assistant to the Secretary of Transportation in 1995. He was an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Albuquerque from 1991 to 1994 and an Assistant Attorney General in the New Mexico Attorney General's Office. He is a graduate of Wheaton College and the University of New Mexico School of Law.

'But you don't have to read the Op-Ed to know why, Iglesias, a Republican was fired.'
Shorter Riehlogic: 'I'm too lazy to read the op-ed myself, so I'll deftly affect a haughty, 35,000 foot flyover pose here.'
"When, after 4-5 years the President removes you from a mid-level political post he appointed you to in the first place and you go off and write an Op-Ed for the New York Times, it seems pretty clear to me you were fired for being an asshole."
Shorter Riehlogic: 'That stripper had me 86ed last night after I spanked her ass. That proves she was never loyal to me in the first place.'
You have a strange take on cause and effect and time here though. I'm thinking that if Richard Feynmann were still alive, you might've inspired him greater heights of theorizing. What's last is first. The reaction belies a completely unrelated action. Or is it just a simple case of your usual, Riehlesque ponce-ness? On a hunch I'm suspecting the latter.
'Political post...'
I see, US Attorneys are political because...they're appointed. Check. And yet their job function is anything but political, and in fact should it become political, it becomes potentially criminal, thus the current episode. It's a small point that only 99% of America gets, Dan, but given a little time you too may begin to grasp it.

Tsk, tsk. Such angry patriots. This thing isn't going away. When will Domenici resign? No loss, he's senile anyway.

Hiya BobinTelly. How's them 100 hours going, make any new smashingly socialist policies to keep those dhimmis in flyover country properly oppressed, or raise taxes yet?
Posted by: seekeronos | Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 02:11 PM
Thanks for your concern seek, the 100 hours went quite well. Nice diversion though, heaven forbid you stick to the topic.

No taxes raised yet. But if we can get Bush's failed war shut down in time, maybe we won't have to raise them. Keep your fingers crossed.

No wonder the DEMS are so upset over the firings. This guy had a whole mess of voter fraud cases and didn't feel that any of them merited federal prosecution. Lam (another dead beat prosecutor) refused to file charges on immigration cases in her district. I took the time to read the memos released in this case, and there are a bunch of them, and found that these memos didn't just start last November but in many cases went back years. Personally it looks like heads should roll for not firing these bums a long time before now.
Now we see exactly what kind of nation the DEMS apparently want. One where a employee refuses to do their job month after month and year after year but will still be entitled to their job.
BTW, the Democratic Congress's job approval polls are down to 28% as of March 20th. Looks like the people aren't being fooled at all by all this crap.

More inane ranting from Buzzy, keep drinking that Kool-Aid.
Posted by: Rob Kaufman | Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 03:15 PM
It's really sad, I read the op ed today and thought he made a very solid case for his credentials, the fact that there wasn't any performance based reason for his firing, and a very good case that he WAS fired for failing to bring charges he didn't think were warranted that the party thought would help them in the election.
I doubt if god came down and told Dan and the wingers that this guy was totally on the level and competant and was fired for partisan reasons, the wingers would believe him. Rather than admit BushCo did something wrong, they would decide that god was a liberal, treasonous POS afterall.
When I read this article I see a good guy with a stellar record as a prosecutor, who far from being a whistleblower or anything else, clearly went on the record saying he would go quietly UNTIL DOJ publicly called him out as a poor performer. When one's professional credentials are wrongly maligned, what else is he supposed to do? He's not a politcal hack like Libby, most likely believes in the law and the independence of the justice system.
I fear our country has been polarized beyond all mending by the great uniter" Bush The Younger.

Y3, only you could read the op-ed he himself wrote and discern a "steller" record as a prosecutor. Exactly what is his record. How many cases has he tried, his office tried, and exactly what is his and his offices conviction record?
Have you read the complaints from investigators about this guy refusing to file charges against drug dealers with less than 500 lbs of pot? Have you read the complaints that this guy poorly manages his office (Hint he's more than just another prosecutor, he manages an office of prosecutors and their support staff)?
al Qaeda Rob you apparently don't know the meaning of inane.
Posted by: Buzzy | Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 04:03 PM
He had a 95% conviction rate and I believe he says a record number of prosecutions. Did you even read the op ed?
Good for him for refusing to proseucte small time drug dealers. Why should a federal prosecutor be involved in something like that anyway, those cases are for the local DAs.
He says that both DOJ AND the FBI agreed with his assessment of the voter fraud cases. There was not enough evidence to move forward.
Now, I'm SURE you think he would be stupid enough to tell out and out lies in an op ed that are contradicted by the real record, but I don't.
Posted by: yyy | Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 04:09 PM
Gee Buzzy, sure seems each of these 3 definitions apply to your rantings,
1. lacking sense, significance, or ideas; silly: inane questions.
2. empty; void.
–noun 3. something that is empty or void, esp. the void of infinite space
Thank you for playing the game but sadly all you did was show your ignorance.

I never liked Julio Iglesias anyway. Glad they fired him. :P

"When, after 4-5 years the President removes you from a mid-level political post he appointed you to in the first place and you go off and write an Op-Ed for the New York Times, it seems pretty clear to me you were fired for being an asshole."
What's the old saying? USAs should be seen but not heard?
Where's his freedom of speech, Dan? Oh, right. Nothing in the editoral about faggots. I can see why you were offended.
Posted by: Zifnab | Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 05:14 PM
The guy should be fired - he's obviously retarded if he doesn't know how to pass the political buck to a federal grand jury when the evidence is "weak".
We don't need retards as federal prosecutors.
Posted by: Purple Avenger | Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 05:28 PM
Yeah, he says that DOJ and the FBI agreed with him but memos say they complained to his boss not once but many times that this man refused to assign resources to prosecute voter fraud investigations or to do away with weight limitations on drug trafficking cases.
I guess the DEMS think that an employee who refuses to do his job should keep it forever, sort of like welfare. I get the idea that none of you have even taken the time to research any of this, you just mimic the Democratic line like good brain dead zombies.
If this was a culture of corruption thing these prosecutors would still have jobs because they have contributed to GOP campaigns and have GOP friends in high places. I'm glad this wasn't the case, bad public employees need to go.
But then again we'll be more than glad to leave all the Bush appointees in place and unfireable if a DEM takes the White House in 2008.
Posted by: Buzzy | Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 06:07 PM
More inane ranting from Buzzy, under what 'logic' would the future Democratic president keep Republican appointees in positions of power? The people that were fired were placed by Mr Bush. It is unprecedented to replace almost 10% of your own people. But keep making excuses for the Resident, it will make it so much easier for President Gore with bigger Democratic majorities in the House and Senate.
Posted by: Rob Kaufman | Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 06:26 PM
You think Gore will be president and then say Buzzy's "ranting" is "inane". That's a hoot! Lay off the toluene before posting Rob.

This entire issue looks a little different from a local point of view.
Here's a take from the Albuquerque Journal by a local writer.

Letters to the Editor
Demanding Results No Crime
EVEN THOUGH I've been a Democrat ever since I got back from World War II in 1945 and passed out cards for Harry Truman's campaign, I was delighted when the Journal reported that Rep. Heather Wilson and Sen. Pete Domenici both called our U.S. attorney to suggest he help clean up that mess of bribery and corruption in our state Capitol, which was ruining our state's reputation.
I confess to that joy even though both the congresswoman and the senator are in the wrong— Republican— party. It seemed to me that they were merely doing what they had sworn to do— using their position to get federal law enforcement involved in offenses which were federal law violations as well as state felonies.
Therefore, as a troubled taxpayer, I am having trouble understanding what moral or ethical violation they are being blamed for. I'd say, "Good for you, Congresswoman, and thank you Senator for a helping hand."

al Qaeda Rob it seems that your beloved DEMS in Congress want to give DAGs job rights, insisting that they cannot be removed at the will of the President. Be careful what you ask for my little man you may just not like it when you get it.
And don't forget that Clinton fired 93 DAGs in one day, none of them based on performance all on politics.
Personally I think that Pelosi and Reid are gonna get their asses handed back to them in a brown paper bag over this ill thought out plan.
Posted by: Buzzy | Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 07:58 PM
I must confess Buzzy, your stupidty is quite amazing. You are trying to equate changing the attorneys after taking over the presidency, a nornal procedure, with replacing them 6 years into your presidency? Can you answer this final question for me, "Does stupid hurt?" Because if it does you should get a morphine drip ASAP to help with that.
Posted by: Rob Kaufman | Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 08:27 PM
They don't get it, they told me it would be a-okay if Bush decided to fire a USA because he was black, gay, jewish or catholic!
They really do think he's King.
Posted by: yyy | Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 08:42 PM
BagdhadRob, you're the one stuck on stupid. Read what the DEMs are basing their complaints on and you'll find that they're giving job rights to these appointees. They are making them defacto civil servants. That's gonna sting when it comes back to bite them in the ass.
Posted by: Buzzy | Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 09:14 PM
Dan:
He wasn't fired. He resinged.
Didn't you get that memo?
Sincerely,
George W. Bush
Posted by: mkultra | Thursday, March 22, 2007 at 01:27 AM
You lefties are severely retarded. It's been pointed out to you he can fire them at any time for any reason. Can he fire them for being black? Yup. He'd better not say as much tho. Jeez, we have to spoon feed everything to idiots.
BTW, why is it ok for Clinton to fire multiple US Atts, some of whom were investigating and apparently about to indict multiple prominent Democrats? But Bush is wrong to fire some for incompetence? Because you leftist inbreds are raging hypocrites and fascists. That's why.
Posted by: Hard Right | Thursday, March 22, 2007 at 01:56 AM
Ummmm Limp Wrong because Clinton didn't fire them 6 years into office? Any other stupid, moronic, dimwitted questions you want to ask?
Posted by: Rob Kaufman | Thursday, March 22, 2007 at 01:45 PM
The brilliant analysis that the N. M U S Attorney(David Ig....) was fired because he is an "ass hole", gives new meaning to politics. If a U S. Attorney nails, and prosecutes a bad guy fat Kat, think he will be regarded as all luvs and kisses. Big fish political dudes, would think any U S. attorney is an"ass hole" if they sought to make such accountable. Jeff Skillings thinks all the DOJ attorneys that prosecuted him are raving '"ass holes"
This "ass hole" theory breaks down. The DOJ D. C. political jerks were faggy like Mormons, or born again babes( with almost mail order J. D's), who could not get a conviction of the worst criminals in America.
The most incompetent were put in at the top of the Bush DOJ. This is another Katrina like thing, Bush goes for morons, and idiots to run things, he seems to want all government functions to break down, as if anarchy is some neocon fad. People who steal large sums of money linked to U. S. accounts are the real "ass holes", they seem to get a break in the Bush Administration. Cheney and all his faggy clique, what a sad sack Administration, pretty soon Ann Coulter will be tasked to take Harriet Meir's place @ the White House Justice ARM, as Harriet Miers turned out to be a "little bit faggy and a little bit haggy"
