Actually this is rather hilarious.
Pelosi on brink of big win with Iraq funding test
If it passes, she'll be getting support from:
Anti-Iraq war House members who voted last year against additional money for the war, but who’ve switched their votes, partly because the spending bill prescribes an August 2008 deadline for withdrawal of some, and perhaps most, U.S. troops from Iraq.
But wait:
House members will be voting on the bill knowing that the deadline will almost surely be removed by the Senate when it votes on the measure next week.
Putting aside the dubious Constitutionality of the bill that may or may not be tested, it will need to survive the Senate and a possible veto first, is it really a victory when individuals who never voted to fund the war now vote for to fund it, knowing their rationale for doing so is going to be immediately stripped away?
That sounds like a victory for supporters of the war to me.

"The bill tries to limit the length of deployment of Army soldiers to 365 days in Iraq and of Marines to 210 days. But it permits President Bush to waive those restrictions.
It also permits U.S. forces to be kept in Iraq beyond the bill's August 2008 exit target date if they are training Iraqi soldiers or if they are engaging in missions to kill or capture members of al-Qaida and other terrorist organizations."
$124 billion vote not only to continue the war but to continue the surge troops and Bush can waive all restrictions if he wants. Who needs a pro war House when the anti war Pelosi House pays out like an ATM.
I am of the opinion that Pelosi and company is the biggest bunch of liars this nation has ever seen. Is this how they "defund" the war?
Yeah, I'm laughing.

"victory for supporters of the war"
So being allowed to continue to LOSE means that you WIN?? You guys are idiots, I can see why you voted for a stammering fool like Bush twice. Thankfully, no one pays much attention to you guys any more. Gotta clean up 6 years of your 'victories'.

Sorry to break this to you Bob, but you're the victim of the Democrat-run schools in the US.

Well, BoobinBridgeport, glad to see you are up bright and early busily going about your work of insulting the President and your fellow Americans and helping the terrorists in your own small but special way.. I found a site today that I think you would enjoy. It is The Big Picture. You will find a few thoughtful posts there that you could mindlessly attack. Regards, Fred

When all is said and done, expect a big fat veto by the time this hits the President's desk. Clearly, Republicans don't care about funding the troops nearly as much as they care about making war-funding a partisan, divisive issue.

Did anyone else hear that CBS ran a story about the dramatic drop in IEDs since the start of the surge. When the msm big three start running stories about the success of the surge you know things are starting to get better. This is why you see the Dems voting this way, they have to distance themselves from the surrender now stance and give themselves some breathing room. If they keep pushing this they will get run out of town on a rail come 2008.

Zif, I sure hope you're right and the bill is vetoed; it certainly deserves to be. It is an unconstitutional bill that seeks to subvert the President's authority to command the military during a war.

I believe Secretary Gates pointed out that if new funding was not received by July, there would be no money to train the soldiers that would be sent in to replace those in the field. A veto of this bill is essentially a Bush-mandated 4-month extension of deployments in Iraq.
As far as I can tell, the Republicans are slowly and inexorably moving towards a government shutdown in the middle of wartime. Not entirely sure of the patriotism of that. But what does a filthy, stinking liberal know about supporting the troops, eh? After Walter Reed, I'm sure Americans will see exactly how much the right-wing cares for the troops.

Yep! Things are getting so much better.

Het Ziffy, BiS, et al :
"According to Gallup's monthly update on job approval of Congress -- in a March 11-14, 2007, national poll -- 28% of Americans approve of the job being done by Congress and 64% disapprove. This marks a substantial change from January and February, with approval down nine points and disapproval up nine points"

Well, if we're going to pull out our approval rating penises... You might want to read the whole poll. We're still on par with the Republican Congress, and I imagine things would be a bit better if it didn't look like the Republicans were still trying to run the show.

And, of course, its always worth mentioning that the President is capping out at a solid 30% Surge on.

Zif you forget to mention, an accident I'm sure, the President in this poll drew 33% vs Congress's 28%.

The MSM continues its Orwellian Ministry of Truth activities calling a pullback by the anti-war Dems an advance, and a moral defeat a "victory." The Surreality-based universe of the ultra-left confueses its own political hallucinations with facts, and it's sort of like that Magic Theater in Hermann Hesse's Steppenwolf, "For Madmen Only."

Of course ziffy manipulates data to meet his ends. All I wanted to prove out was that, since the coup, the dimoratics have LOST mad popularity. That's it. Comparisons to Repub numbers are not significant nor telling, but in adherence to a political philosophy of nothing, ziffy HAS TO rise to the (non-existant) bait. Hilarious.
It just goes to prove once anew that these are not serious people...

What a wimpy thrashing, so the new improved "gonna defund the war right now" DEM congress hasn't improved the ratings over the same GOP congress that I stayed home and wouldn't vote for in November 06. Wow, they're still much lower than the President's approval rating... how can that be?
@daveinboca, it's worse than that. They have the MSM calling their plan not to defund the war (actually to support the surge) a pullout AND calling a pullout an advance at the same time.
Actually I think that most, if not all here, would agree with me that if the Iraqi military isn't carrying 99.9% of the load and winning by August of '08 we're just wasting our time there anyway.
I've got a feeling that the conservative "surge" may eject not only the neocons but also a whole lot of DEMS from congress in 2008!

"As far as I can tell, the Republicans are slowly and inexorably moving towards a government shutdown in the middle of wartime."
Other than the fact that congress controls the purse of course.

So, how about that press conference?
Bush: "I need money! But not that money, other money! I reject your money, give me the money I want or I'll throw a hissy-fit!"
*snicker*
Surge on.
