KABUL (Reuters) - Afghan soldiers have captured a Taliban leader who tried to flee a security operation in the south dressed in a burqa, NATO said on Wednesday.
Tuesday's capture in Kandahar province came as NATO launched a major offensive in neighboring Helmand to secure a key hydroelectric dam and combat the opium trade.
The man was named as Mullah Mahmood and described as an expert bomb-maker. U.S.-led coalition forces also detained five more suspected militants in eastern Khost this week.

A RETIRED Iranian general who went missing in Turkey last month has defected and sought asylum in the US, according to a well-connected Arabic newspaper published in London.
The newspaper, al-Shark al-Awsat, cited "high-profile" sources saying former Iranian deputy defence minister and Revolutionary Guard commander Ali Reza Asghari had gone over to the West.
Reports from Istanbul that General Asghari's family had also disappeared in Turkey support the likelihood that he defected rather than was kidnapped by either the CIA or by Israel's Mossad, as has been speculated. The general went missing from his Istanbul hotel a month ago.
Another good catch in Afghanistan.
I would LOVE to see that Iranian had defected to the U.S. That would be a major intelligence coup.

Escort service doesn't automatically mean prostitution. However, if that's what he's doing (prostitution) then I'm all for seeing him tossed in jail.

Anyone wonder if the Iranians whacked the General? Allegedly the operation to kidnap the Americans in Iraq was blown. They were supposed to kidnap them and hold them hostage in hopes we would release the Iranians we had captured in Iraq. They weren't supposed to be killed. Maybe the Iranians decided to punish him, but didn't want it obvious they killed him.
A phony kidnapping would be perfect. They could blame someone else for it while getting rid of a problem.

So the Taliban commander escaping in a burqua was a Afghani prostitute (mebbe escort service worker) who made money on the side as a pronstar? Now I know why the Democrats love these guys so much.
