Maybe Edwards is a wuss, after all. He had his wife respond to Coulter in what amounts to a Sunday School lesson accompanied with another plea for cash. It's starting to sound like Edwards isn't getting the $ he needs and isn't long for the race.
I don't want to hear from Hillary's husband, or Rudy or Mitt's wives when it comes to politics. Grow up, Johnnie - this isn't a family affair, it's hardball. And if you need people to toss you a saw buck, be man enough to ask for it yourself. Don't send your wife out to do your job. What is this? Therezzzzza Heinz-Kerry II? Bah!
When Miss Coulter spoke about John(nie) at the conservative convention in Washington yesterday, she used a word that she intended as a nasty and derogatory suggestion. John and I have long ago shrugged off the vile words of this person. When she made a joke about the exact moment of death of Charlie Dean (Howard's brother and a schoolmate of mine), and when she attacked the courageous 9-11 widows, she told you all you need to know about what she is made of: her compassion -- or lack thereof. Now we need to find out about you.

Shorter Dan Riehl:
"Ann Coulter shouldn't have called John Edwards a faggot. She should have called him a pussy.
And it's all Al Franken's fault."

That tugged at the strings of my heart.
Now I'm debating, should I send my money to the Christian Children's fund, or the Edward's sadness fund?
Any advice?

"And it's all Al Franken's fault."
Nice. And really on topic. Yeah Dan, why did you throw that 300 word paragraph about Al Franken in? That was over the line.
I am demanding the Dan apologizes to everyone, and that the whole GOP get together and denounce his slanderous remarks about Al Franken.
Dan, you are a very sick man!
Posted by: Jeff | Saturday, March 03, 2007 at 08:16 PM
I think that implicit in the "it's just hardball" argument is that there is a left-wing analogue who runs around calling conservatives, uh, whatever the heterosexual analogue of "faggot" is.
This person is generally agreed upon to be Al Franken.
Posted by: scarshapedstar | Saturday, March 03, 2007 at 08:33 PM
The last I know or have thought of Franken was when he was throwing a hissy fit in a Princeton restaurant because he couldn't cut the line. The waitress didn't recognize him. LMAO What a wuss!

Thanks for that subtle endorsement of Coulter, Dan. I'm sure if you'd been invited to the CPAC you'd have had stern words for everyone clapping. Coulter's insults weren't involved enough.
But its nice to know the right-wing smear machine is in high gear. Just try not to burn out too quick. It's still 2007 and you haven't even called on Hillary Clinton to screw her husband in public to prove she's not a lesbo.

"Thanks for that subtle endorsement"
Another wuss. What am I supposed to put a qualifier in every post - I hereby blah blah blah. I denounced her very strong terms and moved on. You should do the same, or people might think your a f.... well, you know.
Posted by: Dan Riehl | Saturday, March 03, 2007 at 09:00 PM
More Dunceisms. ACK!
Jeff - the Edwards Sadness Fund. Go with that. I'm sure Johnnie's been crying into 'Mama's' bosom since Coulter outted him. har..
Sunday school sermon is right. How embarrassing!
Posted by: Phoenix | Saturday, March 03, 2007 at 09:12 PM
Four paragraphs of "defense" and not once did she flat out call Coulter a liar, or even imply what she said was untrue. Curious.
Wazzupwitdatshit?
Posted by: Purple Avenger | Saturday, March 03, 2007 at 09:20 PM
If Coulter had said that about GW, Laura would have downed a 5th of Jack and mowed her down. Just like the old days!

"Another wuss. What am I supposed to put a qualifier in every post - I hereby blah blah blah. I denounced her very strong terms and moved on. You should do the same, or people might think your a f.... well, you know."
I'm sorry. I must have missed the tacit condemnation of Coulter in "John Edwards is a girly man and I hate him because he's running for President". Piling on, in some cultures, is a form of endorsement.
If you don't like Coulter's statement, and you don't want to be called "Brek Girl Hugger" then do with this what you've done with all the other tragic Republican gaffes. Shove it under the rug and forget about it.
Posted by: Zifnab | Saturday, March 03, 2007 at 09:39 PM
For once I agree with Bob. Edwards wife completely lacks the natural defensive instinct one might expect from a normal spouse. Maybe he is gay?
Posted by: Purple Avenger | Saturday, March 03, 2007 at 10:09 PM
When people say Hardball, I think... Chris Matthews, not Al Franken. Weird. LOL
"Shove it under the rug and forget about it."
Lets compare and contrast.
Tom Delay, gone, due to Republican rules
Trent Lott, lost his post, due to Republican rules
Mark Foley, gone - right away, due to Republican rules
William Jefferson, FBI found $90,000 in his freezer
Harry Reid, shady land deals, very involved in ABSCAM - Senate majority leader
Alcee Hastings - impeached judged, he's in Congress
Gerry Studds, was censured for having sex with an underage male page - given a standing ovation.
You're right, Republicans are shoving everything under the rug.

I must have missed the tacit condemnation of Coulter
No, you obviously missed an entire post 3 or so posts back condemning her.

Ann really isn't the sharpest knife in the shed, either...(see video)

Ann Coulter had better watch out, Elizabeth Edwards has at least 100 lbs on her and if she caught her in a corner might hurt her bad.
OK, so I get it now, Edwards isn't denying the accusation and sends out his wife who also doesn't deny the accusation. That's all and good but running his wife out front seems like denying the accusation. That's a big screw up as Edward's and the rest should have just left Ann's comment to reverberate till everyone grew uncomfortable. I don't think anyone thought "silky pony" was homosexual but now he looks P-whipped. Edward's campaign lost ground big time over stuff Marcotte and McEwan stuff and had run out of air. Maybe they should thank Ann for a chance to inject themselves among the front runners for a change. Maybe the Edward's camp thought this might be the only chance they'd have to grab some air in between Obama and Hillary? Maybe Edwards has a problem with being thought of as homosexual? Back in your stall "Silky Pony" you're really not in this race.

"Tom Delay, gone, due to Republican rules"
*snicker* Uh... no. He was removed despite Republican rules - at least rules he tried to change when he got indited. Perhaps you should take a peak back at the record and see how many Republicans voted to allow an indited Majority Leader continue to serve. And besides, as I'm sure every Republican here will be quick to point out, he was unfairly targeted by a zealous attorney who couldn't even get a conviction. Tom DeLay should still be majority leader, blah blah blah, etc.
"Trent Lott, lost his post, due to Republican rules"
More like he got kicked to the curb by the neo-cons. There's no "rule" against saying Strom Thurman should have been President. In fact, I remember quite distinctly Republicans having a "Freedom of Speech" hissy-fit. But the "rules" that stripped him of his title were the same "rules" that elected him. Namely, Senate rules for selecting Majority Leader.
"Mark Foley, gone - right away, due to Republican rules"
Right away? hahahahaha. Yeah, it only took them five years. If this is what you call "right away" I think I understand why the Iraq War is taking so long. Wow. Right away. You're a laugh a minute, bud.
http://thinkprogress.org/2006/09/30/foley-coverup-timeline/
But no, seriously, thanks for playing. Honestly, I'm sure he would have been out faster if Nancy Pelosi hadn't abused her position as Minority Leader to cover the whole thing up. Right? Or was it Rahm Emmanuel? I can't even remember. But yes, you were saying something about what Gerry Studds did in the 70s.

i didnt catch the time where you criticized laura bush for talking ignorantly about iraq recently dan. where were you on that one?
oh right, true believers get the free pass i forgot
Posted by: LOL | Saturday, March 03, 2007 at 11:43 PM
What's "indited"?
"at least rules he tried to change when he got indited"
"voted to allow an indited Majority Leader continue to serve"
Perhaps?

But if we want to list convicted Democrat Child Molesters I'll start with good old Melvin Jay "Mel" Reynolds from Illinois and we can stay up all night long playing name that pervert.

Laura Bush isn't discussed because shes batshit crazy. It would be unseemly to repeat anything that comes out of her crazy mouth.
Posted by: BobInStamford | Sunday, March 04, 2007 at 12:28 PM
LOL,
You are so lame. But I can't resist: What do you mean by this?
"oh right, true believers get the free pass i forgot"

I suppose I should elucidate my query.
I want to know what you mean by 'true believers'.
I also want to know what free pass you forgot. The pass you took on grammar?

gee phoenix i didn't know i was turning in a paper that would be graded
if you have a point to make, do so, my comment was not inscrutable.

Come on, she does this stuff on purpose. She know exactly what she's doing and that's to sell more books. I'd bet money her book sales spike everything she manages to get another one of her BS comments blasted around the web. Congrats - you're making her rich.

Good point Jon. There is an expression that my Grandfather told me (he was being called an undercutter etc. because his businesses were shutting everyone down).
"Talk about me, good or bad, just talk about me."
I.E., Free publicity is always good.

LOL,
"if you have a point to make, do so, my comment was not inscrutable."
No problem other than I asked what your point was because your lack of punctuation made it incomprehensible. This time, try to answer my question instead of attacking me.
"I want to know what you mean by 'true believers'.
I also want to know what free pass you forgot. "
Very simple.

ok dumbass
if you haven't seen riehl do this routine before, then it's a shame. It's a little game he plays. He pretends to be outraged by something a liberal does and pretends this has a basis on how the person acted. For example in one post riehl moaned about how the left's hitler comparison's were ruining discourse and then linked to a website that accused Soros of being "worse than hitler."
Dan riehl doesn't have principles. He just wants his side to win, at all costs. That's why he gets upset when Edwards' wife speaks up, but never said a damn thing all those times Laura Bush spoke up. He has no principles and doesn't care about the well-being of america, just his own ego
Posted by: LOL | Sunday, March 04, 2007 at 09:22 PM
LOL...what a faggot.

I am appalled at the public stoning some Conservative males want to enact on Ann Coulter. She is a comic/pundit, not a candidate. Edwards is supposed to be a legitimate candidate for POTUS. Big difference.
But this castigation of Coulter has been carried much too far. The liberal press only has to prick the conservatives' vanity and they wet their pants in fear somebody is going to scold them or think badly of them.
The GOP has become more PC than the liberals! This whole Coulter attack reeks of sexism. Are conservative males so insecure they feel threatened by strong women? Or is it that one cast aspersions on the masculinity of a male, how dare her?? Why she might say something about one of us next, better shun her, kick her out of CPAC and call for a public stoning, an honor killing to restore our pristine image that she has sullied!
GAG!!! What a humorless bunch of dried up old farts the GOP is turning out to be. I'm disappointed!

Right - I can hardly wait for her commentary if the Dems nominate Obama. I wonder what hilarious slur she'll find to call him? Starts with an 'n' perhaps. But hey, he's a candidate ya know, anything goes.
