Not so much. Two well known Liberal blogs have responded to this and their response is as bizarre, as it is sad.
Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman plans to deliver the Democrats' radio response to President Bush Saturday and urge that the president and Congress "hold the Pentagon and Army chain of command accountable for the neglect of our soldiers at Walter Reed" Army Medical Center.
He listed some points: "Soldiers with brain injuries have gone weeks without being able to get doctors' appointments. There is not enough staff with the right skills to treat and care for the severely injured troops. And rooms where some soldiers lived were found to be mouldy and infested with rodents."
Says Taylor Marsh:
You do not reward a renegade on the war with a plum assignment like speaking to America on the troops. We've got any number of senators who are veterans, but Lieberman gets the nod?
With the announcement that Lieberman is going to give the Democratic radio response to Bush on Walter Reed, it's pretty well confirmed that progressives are shut out of the Congressional halls of power.
Yes, they're all about supporting the troops on the Left, sure.

Of course they support the baby-killing soldiers. As long as they speak up against the war. If they support the war, they get spit on.

I should have put baby-killing in quotation marks.

You should have put "the war" in "quotation marks".

I think Lieberman has been doing enough spokespersoning for the Republicans without letting him speak for the Democrats as well. The least we could do is find a spokesperson within our own party. Outsourcing was catastrophic for running Walter Reed. I don't see why we need to start outsourcing the rhetoric as well.

Zifnab, at least when Lieberman says it we'll know he really means it. Why don't you have Murtha blurt it out along with some foul bile about how our soldiers have too many luxuries for their own good. Maybe Kerry could add something on to his speech about study hard to you'll end up in Iraq or Hillary could get in a photo op while promising to "end the war" that would be a good morale booster for our wounded.
These men and women went into a war that the overwhelming majority of Democrats voted to authorize. The left doesn't realize just how demoralizing it is to be fighting for your life and hearing on the news that now they just want to pull the plug, call it quits, replay Vietnam all over again.
I think our soldiers deserve the best, the absolute best, equipment, training, and political support and if they are wounded they deserve the absolute best medical care that we can provide for as long as they have need for it. If conditions at Walter Reed, any part of Walter Reed are as bad as reported then heads need to roll, jobs need to be lost, the problems need to be corrected and the system needs to be fixed so that this type of crap doesn't happen again. While we're going at it maybe we can straighten up the VA system too.
Hey, the Democrats are in control of congress maybe they'll take this opportunity to do more than just try to score political points with this and actually do something good for the soldiers for once.

Can't you just feel the love? I excerpted and linked at Army Secretary fired over Walter Reed SNAFU. -- http://www.smalltownveteran.net/bills_bites/2007/03/army_secretary_.html

Time out for reality. Giving Joe Lieberman this plum assignment is about one thing, keeping the majority in the Senate. Just last week Joe was making noises about switching to the Republicans. Harry Reid desperately wants to remain Majority Leader, he's only had the job for 2 months. And besides, who else among the Democrats has any credibility about caring for the troops? Joe's the only one that wants Victory and that's what the troops want too!

I wouldn't say Lieberman is the only pro-troop Democrat, he is the only well known... But I have listed a few Democrats that I would call pro-troop.
-Tom Harken
- Jon Tester
-Bill Nelson
- Tim Jonson
- Joe Lieberman
5 out of 51... And I was very "liberal" with my choices.

Shhhh, the left's moonbat brigade apparently wants to withdrawl from power in the Senate and redeploy to the minority position. I have a feeling that Joe is about one insult away from handing power to the GOP there anyway.
If only the GOP would wake up and see that running candidates that are little more than moderate Democrats is a sure way to lose in 2008 and would support candidates that define the differences between liberal and conservative in Iraq and on the border. But apparently the GOP is stuck on stupid and President Hillary is coming. (Play Jethro Tull's "Locomotive Breath" for the full effect)

"But apparently the GOP is stuck on stupid and President Hillary is coming."
NO! 48% of people would never vote for Hillary, which means, that if everyone who is WILLING to vote for her does, she would only win by 48%.
She is losing by at least 5% in most majors polls to Giulliani, and as much as 11%... That's a lot ground to make up. The libs might be saying "Hile Hillary" but I'm not going that way, not unless I think its inevitable.
