An oversight? A former Marine just happens to forget he is carrying a loaded weapon and two extra clips? Something isn't right given that he isn't permitted to carry. It appears as though Webb has been allowing him to carry all along.
Looks like Webb's one of the worst kind of politicans, one who thinks he gets to live by special rules. Has he at least sponsored a right to carry law in DC?
WASHINGTON (AP) - An aide to Sen. Jim Webb was arrested Monday when he entered a Senate office building with a loaded pistol, Capitol Police said.
Spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Schneider said the aide was charged with carrying a pistol without a license and possessing an unregistered firearm and unregistered ammunition. The office of Webb, D-Va., identified the aide as Phillip Thompson and said he was "a former Marine, a long-term friend and trusted employee of the senator."
"To our knowledge, this incident was an oversight," the office said in a statement.
The weapon was revealed when the aide went through an X-ray machine at an entrance of the Russell Senate Office Building, said police spokeswoman Schneider. She said the man had a loaded pistol with two additional loaded magazines.

What's the big deal? He's a Democrat. Laws don't apply.

Does Webb wear a rug?

AFAIK, there's no exceptions in the law for fucking up.

"What's the big deal? He's a Democrat. Laws don't apply."
Exactly. Such laws are for the "peasants".

Pardon Scooter Libby!

As a 2nd Amen. sister and a mother of a military man, this is a disgrace. How does one not know you are carring a weapon. Good GOD Almighty, what an embarrasment.

How long before one of the clueless Riehl-stalker libs chimes in with an impotent "But Dan, I thought you wingers LOVED you some guns???"

Guns you might actually consider being worried about.

Ziffy, the most brtual weapon I can imagine unleashing would be forcing anyone to read your bloated, illogical, narrow-minded, bigoted, Dan-stalking bilge. Maybe the Chinese can take down all your scribblings, put them to tape and reproduce them in voice...Sweet Mother of Jesus even I would jump off a cliff to get away...

We all do know that liberals think they live by different standards.
Just witness shitting on the flag, wishing tony Snow would just die from cancer already, Ward Churchill...

"Pardon Scooter Libby!"
We have a troll folks. Admitting I'm superior to her, she has to impersonate me. Here's a clue. If the e-mail address is 123@AOL or abc@aol-it's not me.
I love the irony. Anti-gun Congressman lets aide carry his gun-illegaly.
Posted by: Hard Right | Monday, March 26, 2007 at 08:55 PM
HR, your very own troll! I'm so jealous! Lord these people are beneath pathetic...Although I, for one, am just fine with the "Pardon Scooter Libby" thought. How do you suppose she figured this was "damaging" to you? Jesus, even when they try to snipe they fail! Oh! the humanity.

He didn't shoot anybody in the face, did he?
Posted by: Jon G | Monday, March 26, 2007 at 09:43 PM
What I can't understand is why he didn't mckinney the Capitol policeman who caught him.
Jaysus, this is so cool. I love it! Webb might have gotten *some* sympathy if he'd pulled the gun out, aimed at his foot and pulled the trigger and then grinned for the cameras.
Posted by: Phoenix | Monday, March 26, 2007 at 10:43 PM
Um, Hard Right, I hate to bother you in the midst of your little fantasy, but the fact is that Webb is not, nor has he ever been anti-gun. He has an A rating from the NRA and is a strong and vocal supporter of gun rights. Why not try finding a real position of his to attack instead of relying on silly assumptions?
And, uh, Phoenix, it wasn't Webb who had the gun. It was his aide.
And benrand, what's with the "liberals think they live by different standards. Just witness shitting on the flag, wishing tony Snow would just die from cancer already, Ward Churchill..." First off, Webb is no liberal. Second, WHO exactly is advocating what you list in your little list of paranoid fantasy actions supposedly taken by "liberals"? I haven't heard anyone calling for Tony Snow's death, haven't seen or heard of anyone "shitting" on the flag. Rather a silly puppy, aren't you, demonizing people who happen to disagree with you. Maybe it makes you feel better.

" I haven't heard anyone calling for Tony Snow's death, haven't seen or heard of anyone "shitting" on the flag."
-Huffpo, it happened
-Oregon, March 17.
I actually agreed with most of what you said that Webb isn't a liberal, and isn't anti-gun...
But geez, you totally discredited yourself. You'll learn to make sure that you can make statements that you can back up sooner or later ;)

Webb sounds like old-style blue-collar liberal too me. Which should scare the hell out of the Republican party.
Please post a link to an author that's called for Tony Snow's death, not a commenter. As for the flag incident, whoever did it was an idiot. My guess he's an anarchist, not a liberal.
**********
Why did you switch from being a Republican to being a Democrat?
Webb: I grew up in a family that was Democratic. And I went over to the Republicans, like a lot of people did at the end of the Vietnam War, based on national security issues. And again, like a lot of people, I was never comfortable with the Republican Party platform as it related to economic fairness, and some issues of social justice.
The last book that I was writing ... [a] nonfiction book about the Scotch-Irish migration ... [was] basically about the creation of populist-style democracy in the United States, Jacksonian democracy. [It] caused me to do a lot of thinking about where both political parties are. And when I decided to run, I felt most comfortable with, shall we say, the Jacksonian wing of the Democratic Party. And this is why I decided to run as a Democrat.
Then you'd say you are focused on the gap between rich and poor?
I think Andrew Jackson said it first, and said it best, when he indicated that you measure the health of a society not at its apex, but at its base. You measure the true health of a society not by what the stock market is doing, but what the average-wage earner is facing.
I don't think there are too many of us who are over here on the so-called populist side who want to see the American economy stutter; what we want to see is a much fairer distribution of the benefits of this economy.

Catzmaw,
"And, uh, Phoenix, it wasn't Webb who had the gun. It was his aide."
It was Webb's gun, dufus.
"I haven't heard anyone calling for Tony Snow's death, haven't seen or heard of anyone "shitting" on the flag."
Nice solipsistic world you live in. I take it you don't read liberal blogs.

Jon,
"...what we want to see is a much fairer distribution of the benefits of this economy."
I think the IRS has a place on tax forms where you can donate as much money as you want beyond what you've already donated in taxes. Go for it. You have a couple of weeks yet.

Hey Phoenix, how about a link to a columnist, not a commenter, that has called for Tony Snow's death?

Jon,
What columnist are you talking about?
Posted by: Phoenix | Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at 01:31 AM
The liberal columnist calling for the death of Tony Snow.

Anybody else carrying an unregistered firearm in DC would face serious federal charges. Maybe Webb's aide needs to bunk with Scooter Libby for a while.
Posted by: Buzzy | Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at 07:32 AM
Phoenix - go back and read what you wrote - you talked about Webb pulling it out and "shooting himself in the foot", NOT his aide - DOOFUS. You need to learn more precision in your writing.
As for what is said in "liberal blogs", the fact that there are irresponsible idiots in ALL blogs, right and left, who write stupid things, doesn't count as a so-called liberal position. Now, contrast your one or two isolated comments from people responding to blog posts to the columns and speeches by such as Anne Coulter and Michael Savage who regularly advocate violence toward the Administration's opponents and who spew hatred about gays, liberals, foreigners, etc. Are they the mainstream for Repubs or conservatives? When some clown shoots a guy in a turban because he hates Muslims, does that get translated into some kind of policy statement for conservatives in general?
Posted by: Catzmaw | Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at 09:12 AM
Jeff - how do I "discredit" myself? By not being aware of some isolated anarchist incident on the other side of the country? Oh wait, I forgot, see to me it's an isolated incident which has nothing to do with my positions or the positions of the columnists and contributors to the blogs I read. To you, of course, if it's something like flag desecration you simply declare that I and all my ilk approve because you like to think that we "hate America" and "want the terrorists to win". You feel the need to demonize and dismiss, which accounts why it's foremost in your mind while this silly incident 4000 miles from me didn't catch my notice. And as for someone calling for Tony Snow's death, I haven't seen it. I don't spend hours poring over blogs looking for one irresponsible statement I can attribute to everyone who doesn't agree with me. I have spent a lot of time on conservative blogs and I've seen some pretty irresponsible statements, some of which call all people who don't support the war or worship Dubya traitors. I've read columns by the likes of Anne Coulter which openly declare everyone with an opposing viewpoint a traitor. I don't necessarily attribute these extremist views to you just because you call yourself a conservative, but you have the gall to attribute an irresponsible statement by a commenter to a column to me. You discredit yourself.

Yep... like the 'false' story about Webb rolling in Watts with ROTC buddies and 'unloaded' guns, pointing, pulling the trigger and laughing... because he had been jumped before on one of his excursions. But we can't believe a guy who did an interview with him for Vietnam vets magazine(Craig), who doesn't have 'notes' to prove it. s/
The type of guy that will go to Watts with his ROTC buddies to prove something is the type of guy that felt he would have to carry all the time... Mix in Vietnam after that, and you know what I mean.
You don't want to know what I really think... I'll wait and see what comes outta this.
Posted by: Ali | Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at 09:23 AM
You know... Jim was pretty upset about that timetable; Maybe the magazines were for the dems. Did he have flashbacks of what happened after they had to pull out while winning in Nam?

Depends on who you support. The NRA gives him an A rating. The GOA hasn't to my knowledge.

Catzmaw,
You need to grok humor and metaphor. You don't make much sense, you know.
Jon,
I hope you mean that. I am thinking you do. I still have no idea what columnist you're talking about or even how we got into this discussion. I suggested you send some extra taxes this year to help with wealth distribution. What's up with this other stuff?
