This is the final disgusting bit of news one needs to realize just how anti-American and ultimately treasonous is today's Democrat Party leadership. During a time of war their message to the troops is, we'll see ya when we see ya! What's the rush, right? They can spend the pork they packed into what was supposed to be a war funding bill at their convenience.
Spring break checklist for Congress: A plane ticket back home, chocolate (or matzo) for the family and a war spending bill for the president.
The last item might need to wait.
Senate Democrats beat back Republican efforts Tuesday to strip a key provision of the $122 billion wartime spending package that sets goals for withdrawing troops from Iraq -- a significant turnaround from just two weeks ago, when the GOP defeated a similar withdrawal measure. The Republican amendment was defeated, 50 to 48.
The Senate will take a final vote before the Easter recess Thursday but is not expected to reconcile its version with the House bill until both chambers are in session April 16 -- one day after the Pentagon says it must get the emergency funding for troop operations in Iraq and Afghanistan in order to avoid cutbacks.
The White House doesn't intend to accept the IOU quietly, accusing the Democratic-controlled Congress of skipping town before its work is done.
"They should stick around until they send him a bill," White House spokesman Tony Fratto said. "You can be sure that we won't be shy about talking about that."
Consider the source, responded Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), secretary of the Democratic Caucus. Under Republican rule, Congress couldn't even pass a budget, she said.
Both Pelosi and Reid should be charged, tried by military tribunal and, if convicted, publicly hung. Neither is worthy of serving our country, let alone being called American. They are political detritus, just so much filth that inadvertently fell out of some ballot box. It is a sorry time for America to find itself being attacked by this fifth column, this greedy, glad handing, self-promoting, immoral un-American scum.

Didn't the President already say he was going to veto the bill when it hit his desk anyway?

Hahaha, great post. Treason, hangings, un-American. Best sheep imagery yet. Shouldn't you patriots get busy 'winning' the Iraq adventure? After all, you only have another year. Mission accomplished, heros!!

What is it going to take for people to realize that the Dem party and its leadership are wgoing to get us killed. When will the simple idea of self preservation kickin. These peolpe are so caught up in their hatred of Bush that they will sell out America to its enemies and the worst part about it is these guys don't even hold out for their 30 peices of silver.
The only thing that I can say is that thank God the next big attack will happen in one of the major cities not here in South Dakota. My guess is that San Francisco will get hit. The thought of that human cesspool must just drive the islamists nuts.
Oh well you libs were warned and had a chance to help win this thing. Instead you chose to bury your heads in the sand. Well I hope the islamists at least give you a kiss on the cheek when they are done sticking it to you.

In other news, Bush plans to use his second-ever veto to cut off funding for the troops.
Posted by: scarshapedstar | Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 02:01 PM
Oh, it isn't over. I wouldn't be too quick to gloat. Besides that, more than a few of your Blue Dogs are going to go down to defeat in 08 based on this. And the war will get funded, I have no doubt as to that.
Posted by: Dan Riehl | Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 02:03 PM
Yes, it is good, Democrats will have another war under their belts that they purposely tried to lose.
Now, shouldn't you have some airports to get to to spit on soldiers returning from Iraq?
Posted by: benrand | Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 02:06 PM
Oh, a few blue seats will inevitably flip back into red hands. That's inevitable. There's no way we'll see the complete and total shut-out that we saw in '06. But that's not before we pick up a few more Senate seats and... oh... the Presidency!
Seriously, I hope you're voting in the Democratic Primary because that's pretty much the only vote that will matter.
You guys are sooooooo boned! It's hilarious.

The average American voter will see right through this bullshit the dems have created. No different that the last two presidential elections. Noone likes a coward.
If the dems really want to end this war, they will cut off spending to support it. But that won't happen.
Sad, the only thing they really care about is thier own "dime."

Well The Hill is not a right wing rag and is usually pretty spot on when calling political fights. Here is their take of today:
In the end, Democrats are not likely to prevail against President Bush in a veto fight. After all of the political combat, the supplemental that will eventually pass into law will not have a definite date for withdrawal; it may have a recommended timetable, benchmarks, and words of disapproval, but it will not absolutely force the president’s hand.
Ultimately, the course of the war in Iraq will be determined more by the election results in November of 2008 than by the 2007 supplemental vote.
Posted by: Gary Maxwell | Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 02:38 PM
People should be hung for opposing the President?? What is WRONG with you??
Seriously.
You do remember this is a Democracy, right? Remember a little thing that happened in 1776, where tyrants were declared the enemy? You do remember a little thing called the Constitution??
How many of our fathers and forefathers died defending this country, and worked all their lives to keep it free - and you honestly want to throw all that away and spit on their sacrifice?
I mean, wow.
OK, you really must not realize the implications of what you're saying.
Tell you what - I'll spell it out in your terms.
Read the paragraph below, as if it were referring to someone you like.
"Both Bush and Cheney should be charged, tried by military tribunal and, if convicted, publicly hung. Neither is worthy of serving our country, let alone being called American. They are political detritus, just so much filth that inadvertently fell out of some ballot box. It is a sorry time for America to find itself being attacked by this fifth column, this greedy, glad handing, self-promoting, immoral un-American scum."
Do you like that? Does that seem reasonable to you? Does that way of thinking make for a good Democracy, for a good future for our country?
Can you see now how both of these extremes are bad, and why our founding fathers were so wise in wanting a system where these sorts of extremes can not get the upper hand over each other?
I hope so.

Dan, as long as we're hanging Reid and Pelosi, shouldn't we hang the homos, too?
Seriously fella, it's stuff like this that guarantees you will forever be a C-tier wingnut. In other words, you're the answer to, How much does someone have to suck to not get a Townhall gig?
Posted by: ts | Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 02:53 PM
Yet another plan for political theater. I guess the Democrats have spun this in a way to make it seem that Bush is the one going to be de-funding the war....of course this doesn't surprise me since they ddin't have the testicular (or ovarian) fortitude to de-fund it themselves. I guess the Liberal War-room had think long and hard on how they could steal money from a military funding bill for useless and economically bankrupting social programs and in the process put a shit timeline in there for a retreat.
All the while playing the sneak card and forcing Bush to veto the bill. The dems knew he would veto this....that way they can just make it seem like the president is holding back funds for the troops. You watch and see if that isn't what they say on CNN or ABC or NBC the next morning.
Oh, and while were on the notion of "traitors" there is a traitor clause built within the Constitution. Now, has Reid and Pelosi deliberatly given information or taken information against the USA itself? No and therefore aren't technically traitors. HOWEVER, they both are as guilty as Clinton, Obama, Edwards and the rest of the leftist Socialist groupies that seek to destroy personal and individual liberty in this country.
Guilty of Treason they may not be, but advocators of the destruction of personal liberty and honest politics they are.
Yes, there is such thing as Honest Politics. Honest Politics and Honest Politicians are two different things.

Haha! The conservatives everywhere are like rats on a sinking ship, and this is only the beginning. What a great year this is turning out to be.
Posted by: mulau | Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 03:31 PM
The current bill represents the democrat's political grandstanding. They have attached their political futures to our failure in iraq. They don't care about the iraqi people, the American people or anyone but themselves. I wonder how it feels to support such shallow, small minded assholes who say they want to end the war but, knowing that retreat in the short term is a stupid idea, must resort to symbolic and ultimately inconsequential legislation. How fucked in the head to you have to be to swallow this shit sandwich?
bush will beto the bill, the war will be funded, the surge will weaken the insurgency enough to allow the iraqi government to get a foothold and the dems and their supporters will be exposed as the ignorant, shrill nimrods they are.

Funny, the Dems won the election in spite of themselves and they think they are a hit with the voters. They will learn otherwise in 2008 at this rate.
This vote is another reason why Dems are not to be tristed with national security. Not to mention it shows they don't support our troops.

"How much does someone have to suck to not get a Townhall gig?"
As far as I know, anyone can open a blog at Townhall. But unless I was working for someone, why would I want anyone to dictate what I can and cannot say? Frankly, I enjoy giving voice to the genuine anger many conservatives feel with the current democrat leadership. I know when I write it that it's hyperbolic - but frankly, it's also more in touch with what many feel than your average "I must temper what I say" prose coming from NRO or Townhall.
Both have their place. But it is the expression of raw political emotion that hasn't had a voice before blogging. If I do ever want to be another watered down pundit, I'll look for a job doing that.

Spoken like a true liberal partisan. All you want to do is embarass your opposing American party to relieve the feeling of impotence growing in your feeble mind.
Who is the 'we' that wins, warren? the jihadists? Al Quaida? The American Fighting men and women? Who exactly gets to share in your little victory lap?
Rememer whose side you are on, asshole. There are people fighting and dying for your right to be ignorant. i hope the next attack hits your town and wipes that droopy grin off your face.

The Dem Leadership has given information to the enemy. They have set a date for our withdrawl and a time table for troop pull downs. The terrorists will know know when to attack our troops at their most vulnerable times. If that isn't helping the enemies of America what is.
Bush needs to dust off Lincoln's way of handleing Dem politicians. Throw them right into jail and let them rot with their buddies down in Gitmo. I'd like to see how long old Teddy would last with those cut throats.
Posted by: southdakotaboy | Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 04:09 PM
Meanwhile, back on Earth, the GOPers who voted to cut off funding to the troops will have to answer why when they go home for the Easter recess, and explain why they let their blind loyalty to Bush, who enjoys Nixonian popular support, get in their way of supporting the troops. Essentially, the GOPers voted to stay the course without funding the course. I didn't think so before, but Harry Reid is a genius.
My favorite parts are the constant whining about how the Dems are actually using their political muscle and constitutional authority to the detriment of the GOP, and watching administration crooks blubber under light questioning from the Congress.
And it's only been a couple of months! The GOP is what popcorn was meant for.

"I'd like to see how long old Teddy would last with those cut throats."
The wedding party-goers or the goat-herders that got sold out by their neighbors?
But seriously, you know the right wing is getting particularly scared when they need to start calling for the arrest of an elected majority.
Between Bloodrage Bob crying for political assassinations, southdakotaboy threatening to throw Congress in Gitmo for defying Dear Leader, and Hard Right babbling inane gibberish, I think the writing is pretty much on the wall. GOPers have offically jumped the shark.
I eagerly await the next few weeks of continued wingnut apoplexy.

It's times like these that I wonder what so-called "conservatives" *actually* stand for politically, other than blind support for the Decider - which isn't really politics per se.
You know that we're entering bizarro world, when the they are calling for Dems to be tried for treason //for exercising their constitutional authority,// while arguing for virtually unlimited executive authority. I thought that the basis of conservatism was skepticism of the authority of the federal government, especially in the hands of the executive. This pretty much proves that the only interest so-called "conservatives" have is retaining the power to which they've become addicted, and reducing the Constitution to read only: "The president is the commander in chief."
Conservatism, as it is popularly understood, is no longer a viable political philosophy, but rather the method to implement unchecked Bush idolatry, and according to this theory, "liberal" means "anyone opposed to an unchecked executive," which at this point would make about 72% of the country "liberal." Remarkable.

Did Obey and Nance ever figure out what day they wanted to cut Iraq off from US support?
Was it in September, October?
Is it possible that details like that don't really matter them, just fucking over Iraq does?
Probably.
Posted by: benrand | Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 05:07 PM
Well, I see you're back, Legal. My advice is to let the Democrats hang themselves with their own rope. Actually, it's too easy, as they are in the process of throwing the rope over the tree and inserting their necks. The only thing we will have to do is kick the chair out from under them. I am already enjoying their stupidity, and it is bound to get better as time goes on. What a hoot!

Darth, no. What he needs to do is stay calm, govern the nation as best he can, work with the Congress when and where he can, and pick his time and place to fight. It is hardly necessary to do what you suggest, if that is you and not some liberal posting under your nick. Considering what happened to Cathy Seipp, anything these liberals do is not surprising.

Then he needs to abolish Parliment and invade Poland!
Poland: Never Forget
Posted by: Zifnab | Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 06:01 PM
Darth, remember this. We are in a long-term fight for survival, and there are bound to be ups and downs. Nothing in life goes your way all the time, and it is during the times of duress that you gain strength and determination.
I have always been a student of history, and have found it quite interesting that most wars are decided not by numbers, but by willpower and steadfastness. All we need do is hang on, never...never....never...and did I say, never give up. If we remain true to our desires, determine not to give up, and fight on, we will win.
I found this strategy when I read about the Japanese conquest of Bataan. Our guys could have easily broken out of the peninsula up until the last few days of the battle, but gave up. We must not give up, we must remain steadfast, outworking the opposition, and attacking their weaknesses, and they have many.

You've identified one of their weaknesses right there, Darth. A major attack on Israel by Iran would change everything, or an attack by Israel on Iran's nuclear facilites. Both of these scenarios are entirely within the realm of possibilities.
All bets would be off if either of these things happened. Or a dirty bomb attack here in the US by terrorists, or an Islamist attack on a school along the lines of Beslan. All these things are possibilities.
Posted by: templar knight | Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 06:13 PM
The problem is Templar is that the Conservative base wants to fight. It is our weenie Republican leadership that booted away our majority. Now we have Al-Quaeda's babe Nasty Nancy underming our war effort.GW just sits there and grins and praises the Dems for their patriotism.......tired of this we all are.

Well, if you're tired of it, you could always try to keep convincing the majority of voters in this country that you're right.
But after 6 years of having both the Executive and Legistative branches doing it your GOP's way, the majority of people in the US have decided they'd rather see what the Democrats have to offer.

I'm surprised that Bush doesn't just sign the bill, with a little "signing statement" attached to the effect that he won't actually execute the law that he just signed. He's done it before. He clearly has no shown no respect for constitutional law, separation of powers, decency, honesty or what takes place in the reality-based world yet. Why start now?
