There's a lot to be said for a Thompson candidacy.
Former Senate Majority Leader Howard Baker (R-Tenn.) is contacting powerbrokers in the Republican Party to build support for a 2008 presidential campaign by his one-time protégé, former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.).
He's no friend of Trent Lott! (scroll down for this)
But Lott's well-chronicled rift with Tennessee Republican Sen. Fred Thompson apparently is beyond repair. Lott and Thompson, both highly ambitious Southerners, have been on the outs since they skirmished last year over the scope of the campaign finance probe by Thompson's Governmental Affairs Committee. Thompson won in his attempt to make the investigation bipartisan -- over Lott's vehement objections.
And despite coming across as a moderate, he had a 92 from the American Conservative Union and zero's from two liberal groups. I can vote for that.
KARL: It's interesting. Fred Thompson was always seen as one of the few moderate voices. But if you looked at his voting record, he was really one of the most conservative members of the Senate. I just took a look at his voting record for last year. The American Conservative Union gave him a 92 percent rating. Contrast that with ratings that he got from the Americans for Democratic Action, a liberal group -- zero percent. And the League of Conservationist voters, the environmental group, 0 percent.
So, Fred Thompson was temperamentally one of those moderate voices. Someone willing to occasionally buck his party's leadership. And that will be a change. But in terms of actual politics, you know, he's very much in step with most of his party here on Capitol Hill.

At least he would be good on TV.

At least he would be good on TV.
Well, that's quite a draw, isn't it?

Could be interesting. Needs a good VP though, maybe Duncan Hunter to set things up for the 2016-2024 Republican Presidency. :)

It's good you're thinking long term.
Also rather funny that you still don't have a single viable Presidential candidate. Keep hunting, soldiers!

Really? Well Giulliani and McCain are both polling better than Mrs Bill Clinton and Giuliani is doing better than Barrack Hussein Obama... You do know what viable means, right?

I'm sorry, its the DNC that can't touch the GOP field.
Good luck in '08 Hillary! You'll need it.

"I am repeatedly struck by just how much larger the 2008 campaign currently appears than the 2004 campaign. The crowds are bigger--including an unbelievable 20,000 people for Obama in Austin. The fundraising is much bigger--Edwards is going to put up numbers roughly equal to Howard Dean in Q3 or Q4, and look as though he is lagging. Already, in just about eight or nine weeks, there has probably been twelve million dollars raised online between the candidates, and that is only going to get much, much bigger."

So, uh, how much has Thompson raised?
Posted by: Zifnab | Friday, March 09, 2007 at 12:29 PM
how much has Thompson raised?
Are you really that dumb? Hussein Obama is raising money for your freaking primary, it has nothing to do with the General Election.
Posted by: Dan Riehl | Friday, March 09, 2007 at 12:45 PM
Still trying to use the name Hussein against Obama? You must really think the American public is stupid, in fact you're probably counting on it.
Posted by: TheSpartan | Friday, March 09, 2007 at 12:55 PM
Barrack Hussein Obama
Barrack Hussein Obama
Barrack Hussein Obama
Barrack Hussein Obama
Barrack Hussein Obama
Barrack Hussein Obama
Barrack Hussein Obama
Barrack Hussein Obama
Barrack Hussein Obama
Barrack Hussein Obama
Don't forget.

Barrack Hussein Obama? Is that to scare the dirty rednecks into not voting for a 'raghead'. Maybe the hicks in shitholes like Getzville (frozen inbreds) are scared, but I wonder if they are where it matters. Lets hear more about your hero friend who died and you have to tell his parents.
Fucking hick...

Keep chanting Jeff. Maybe you can make it your bumper sticker.
Posted by: Zifnab | Friday, March 09, 2007 at 01:22 PM
Hey Allan/Rob/Bob/LOL
It's getting tough to remember all your names.
And yes, Getzville, one of the richest suburbs of Buffalo is full of inbred hicks.
Go back to playing Warcraft, freak.
Posted by: Jeff | Friday, March 09, 2007 at 01:36 PM
Cmon, tell more stories. The most expensive house for sale in (exclusive) Getzville is $250K. What a liar...
Posted by: SultanaGreen | Friday, March 09, 2007 at 01:54 PM
My, what ever did the gentle residents of Getzville ever do to earn thy wrath, O Wicked Witch of Mecca?
Posted by: seekeronos | Friday, March 09, 2007 at 01:59 PM
1) Getville is about 3 blocks, 1 block is absolute crap, the other 2 have nearly no house for sale.
2) The average house in Buffalo proper is about $50,000.
3) Wages in Buffalo are far lower, because of lower cost of living, so $1 and $1 in NYC are alot different.
Dan do you happen to be able to check IPs? Ban IPs? Might be worth checking how many usernames SultanaGreen/Rob/Bob/Allan/Carl have assigned to one IP... All I can say is, someone has too much time on their hands. No wonder he's a lib, he wants me to pay his welfare for the rest of his life.

More stupidity from our resident Mensa member, have you figured out how to spell hypocrisy Jeff? It might help if you pull your head out of your butt.

"It might help if you pull your head out of your butt."
Wow thanks, its a lot brighter out here.

The avg. home cost in Buffalo is 50k? I guess that's news to these folks... http://local.reply.com/real-estate/NY/buffalo.html#homes
Posted by: TheSpartan | Friday, March 09, 2007 at 02:41 PM
Anyway, I read it was between $50,000-60,000. And if they aren't talking about Buffalo proper, it could vary a lot. If they are talking about GBA, it might vary >$100,000, in Amherst the mean price is $130,000 (again what I read).
But really, I don't care... I only brought it up because that idiot Sultana/Rob/Bob/Allan/LOL/Carl said Getzville was a hick town. I'm not about to go review facts for some dumb insignificant debate.
Posted by: Jeff | Friday, March 09, 2007 at 03:14 PM
If it's in western NY it's a hick town, I don't care how much money they have. Hick is a state of mind not a salary.
Posted by: TheSpartan | Friday, March 09, 2007 at 03:32 PM
Sorry Jeff, but any town that has you has a resident is a hick town.
Posted by: Rob Kaufman | Friday, March 09, 2007 at 03:41 PM
"But really, I don't care"
Waaaaah, the bad libruls called me a hick. Waaahhh.
Sure you don't care.
Hick.

Hey, Jeff,
I used to live in Canton, NY. Six years of snow-covered ground from October through May. Shew! I don't miss it. My father was a professor at St. Lawrence University, and the hockey matches with Clarkson were something I'll never forget. Until you've seen it, it's hard to describe. So is the snow.
Posted by: Phoenix | Friday, March 09, 2007 at 09:23 PM
Wow Canton? I'm guessing that's near Mexico and Oswego? I lived in Cornwall for six years, but we didn't that much snow... but when I lived in Granby Quebec, whew we got lots of snow, and an ice storm that knocked out power for almost a month.
WHY DO I ALWAYS HAVE TO LIVE IN FRIGGIN HICK TOWNS??!?!?
Posted by: Ffej | Friday, March 09, 2007 at 09:54 PM
Ooooooooooops Ffej didn't rite that Jeff did. Sorri.
Mi, me is so dum in a hikkish faike MENSA, not having a frend woo diede in Afganestan wai.
Posted by: Jeff | Friday, March 09, 2007 at 09:57 PM
Jeff,
No. I was waaay up on the Canadian border. 250 north of Syracuse. The snow was from the St. Lawrence River, I guess. Most of my classmates went to State College at Oswego. New York state has a gazillion state colleges.
I wonder if there is a town in this country that doesn't have hicks or rednecks. Sorry name for them, but I sure like them. They're some of the funniest people on the planet. Definitely some of the most polite, too.

I was driving to Letchworth State Park about 3 hours Southeast of Buffalo and about halfway there I saw a truck will 4 chairs in the back and guys with mullets drinking beers, there was also a little kid back there. It was classic, I got a picture of it.
Posted by: Jeff | Saturday, March 10, 2007 at 07:45 AM
ha ha. I've seen lots of hilarious stuff like that. The one thing you have to love about a redneck is that they don't care and are more than happy to laugh at themselves. Too great! :)
