It never ceases to amaze how Liberals will fall for anything:
Oh, for the days when Arizona's high school students could roll pizza dough, sweep up sticky floors in theaters or scoop ice cream without worrying about ballot initiatives affecting their earning power.
That's certainly not the case under the state's new minimum-wage law that went into effect last month.
It's a myth that raising the minimum wage is going to help out families. A breadwinner isn't bringing home enough bread at $7 or so, any more than they would be at $5.15. Short-term, first-time employees will take a hit, lose their jobs or have to work harder - eventually prices will go up and the increase, just as with all increases, will be funded out of our pockets. And that translates to more money for government through ticking up the tax base in wages and consumer spending.
The government wins, people lose - a Liberal's utopia. What nonsense. Oh, but it feels good, let's do it! Bah!

Yep, that's the ticket. Just look at the economic collapse of all the states foolish to raise their own minimum wages, compared to the $5.15 powerhouses like Alabama, and the $2.65 worker's paradise of Kansas.

or the low-wage paradise of samoa: pay kept obscenely low by the personal intervention of pelosi, for her husband's starkist buddies.
strange how the liberals neglect to mention samoa in their lists of low-wage hellholes. no doubt just an oversight? or does pelosi and her husband conspiring to exploit mere *brown* people not matter quite so much to them?

America cries out for socialism and the mommy-welfarestate!

Hey Scar....some people aren't worth 5.15$ and hour...let alone 7.25$
Yes, I mean that too. Some people are just plain lazy, non-ambitious, procrastinating, and just have an overall crappy work ethic. There is no reason that a company should be FORCED to pay a lower-than-mediocre employee a certain amount of money. Heck, if it was my business and the government was going to force me to pay a certain wage? I'd just fire all those who aren't worth that to my company.
Business is about making money...not babysitting your employees. If they can't cut it then they need to leave. Sounds harsh? Probably so....but this is a free-enterprise country and I have the right to run my business how I see fit and continue my own pursuit of happiness. I'm not going to let some lazy employee drag my company down just because of some bogus legislation and the majority of business owners probably feel the same way.

I can't understand why anyone who believes in individual freedom would vote for these socialist slugs. Every thing they do is designed to destroy personal freedom and put the government in control. A business owner that doesn't pay his employees a decent wage won't have employees while the better paying business will. If a restaurant owner wants a smoking establishment he should be able to. If he doesn't get enough business to stay open it's all on him. It's private property and exactly what right does the government have telling the owner what he can and cannot do. Yes, the government can control public property, government buildings and the like but once they infringe on individual rights on private property they are no better than Stalin, Hitler, Hugo Chavez or Pol Pot. The fascist left is no more than tyrants and oppressors and we must throw off this yoke of tyranny before they clamp it too tightly around our necks and kill the last gasp of freedom from our throats. Orwell wrote about these thugs years ago, nothing has changed except their names.

your post doesn't make sense as states with high minimum wages such as california, new york, and others are doing great economically versus the low minimum wage states such as alabama and mississippi, which are doing terribly economically.
Furthermore, it's weird that you would blame the government for these businesses suffering when it seems they have their own problems: "Messner's monthly cost to train an employee has jumped from $440 to $580 as the turnover rate remains high."
Again, the advantage of federalism is that states can act as "laboratories" experimenting with different programs. It seems the high-minimum-wage states are doing better economically than the low minimum wagers.

It's a subsidy for the illegal immigrants (D)emocrats hope will provide the votes Americans won't.

Look, Kite, keep on pushing that line, by all means. Call vast swaths of the population worthless, and declare that Mississippi and Tennessee can outperform New York and California any day of the week. Maybe wear a strait jacket and an admiral's hat for added effect. Now if we can just get you elected to Congress...

yeah, right... it's the LIBERALS that always "fall for anything"...
meanwhile all the neocons and wingnuts are falling over themselves to "legitimize" the recently revealed "evidence" that it's IRAN behind all the insurgency...
fuckin wingnuts...

You misundersstand! I am not labeling the person as "worthless" they are only fortifying that fact themselves.
Workers that show up late, do their job's half-ass, leave early, get "sick" more often than they are actually at work, or constantly screw up are, in a sense, worthless to the company they work for. They aren't being productive and are only keeping the others in the company from getting bonuses, raises, and better benefits.
Not everyone can be a winner. You have to have some losers out there. The only difference is that it is your own personal choice that puts you there. If you want to be a winner then you have to work to be a winner...it doesnt come free and it doesnt need to be handed to you. If you make a bunch of bad decisions and screwed up your life then guess what....you need to live with those mistakes. Don't ask someone else to pull you out of the mud if your not willing to try and drag yourself out of it yourself.

The second I saw that initiative would be on the ballot, I knew it would pass. Some people simply have no ability to use logic. The votes for this tends to show that. While my vote against was futile, I felt good making it.

"high minimum wages such as california, new york, and others are doing great economically"
That's why so many business have fled them right? I fled NY.

Purple,
Let's not confuse the trolls with facts--they're on a roll, dude. If they knew about Alabama's 3.3% unemployment rate, they'd REALLY be depressed.

what's this? no liberals wish to defend pelosi's continuing beatdown/exploitation of the samoan minimum wagers? how very strange.
Posted by: bloodrage bob | Monday, February 12, 2007 at 03:24 PM
can't you just see pelosi and her husband, starkist fred, making cutesy pillow talk? playing 'slave' and 'overseer'? "call me 'massa', nancy!" "lif' dat bale! tote dat barge! we're payin' you a princely $4 an hour, samoan BOY!!"
and then they collapse in a fit of lovers' giggles. exploiting the poor is always such a turn-on for democrats.

Gotta love the wingnuts. Here's what I love about you guys, you pretend that you have your facts in order on this issue. You pretend that your side is right.
For example I claim that states with high minimum wages are doing well economically. Purple Avenger counters "That's why so many business have fled them right? I fled NY"
Sorry that you "fled NY" but that state ranks #7 for per capita GSP (Gross State Product). So it's doing quite well economically.
What makes this so ironic, is that this is a thread where many conservatives accuse people of being lazy. Minimum wage workers are LAZY... let's not give them handouts. But really, if you guys had any sense, especially Dan "I don't know a proper citation" Riehl, you would bolster some facts in support of your argument. This is the internet people... there are facts out there.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_GDP_per_capita_%28nominal%29
Look closely at the list.
Now look at http://www.dol.gov/esa/minwage/america.htm
Mississippi -- 51 GSP (per capita) rank
Louisiana -- 36
Alabama -- 45
South Carolina -- 47
Tennessee -- 30
Kansas -- 28
Is it any coincidence that the top 5 per capita GSP states (including DC) all have minimum wages above the federal level?
But don't let facts get in the way of ideology wingnuts, I wouldn't want you to actually make persuasive arguments.
Posted by: LOL | Monday, February 12, 2007 at 04:11 PM
and samoa? any mention of poor, held-down, exploited samoa in those voluminous stats? no?
gotta love the leftoids. never letting inconvenient fact get in the way of a good shrill argument.

Samoa isn't a state. Not sure why you insist on it being part of the discussion.
Regardless http://www.dol.gov/esa/minwage/americanSamoa/ASminwage.htm
Wage rates in Samoa are set by the Department of Labor, and the President appoints that person. Why you think a place of about 50,000 people is going to alter the trends in my data is beyond me. Their per capita gdp: $8,000 (2000). Which puts them substantially below Mississippi, and they have a substantially smaller GDP, so really it's just more evidence for my argument if anything.
Your laziness and ignorance is fascinating however
Posted by: LOL | Monday, February 12, 2007 at 05:30 PM
....and pelosi personally intervened to keep samoa's wage well below american standards, thus helping her husband's starkist friends keep making their obscene profits on the backs of their exploited brown samoan slave-wage labor. since this was a particularly egregious conflict of interest, even for a democrat, it was (grudgingly) reported by the national media. imagine: sweet nancy is *single-handedly* responsible for keeping samoan low-wage workers locked into an abusive and heartless system, designed to ensure their perpetual poverty.
look it up: just because you liberals don't want it to be true isn't a good enough reason not to mention it. a lot. your profound stupidity and mendacity is fascinating, in a "look what hideous slime lives under this rock" sense, anyway.
Posted by: bloodrage bob | Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at 01:25 AM
i never said i liked everything the dems did, however, the republicans never raised anyone's minimum wage in 10 years. So what the Dems did is way better than the alternative, and really that's all that needs to proven for my vote. This isn't Italy where you get to vote for the party that matches up perfectly with your views kiddo, grow up a little.
But, basically you're just trying to change the subject, which is the mating call of someone with nothing to add to the discussion.
Dan, just admit you're wrong about minimum wage.
