Oh, this can't be right? We know from Amanda Marcotte that all the dangerous lunatics, ones who write emails and such, are on the Right. Given the actual confrontation, some of the comments this guy has left around Facebook become very troubling, indeed. He's going to hurt someone one day - hopefully he'll go after someone with a handgun and his worrying about peace in out time will be done.

That is definately scary stuff. I really don't understand it, or why. Obviously this isn't the typical leftist, but on the other hand, more liberal marchs have a tendency to get more violent, even to the point of spitting on parapalegic soldiers as we saw earlier this year.

Well this goea right along with the violent turn of events in Australia. They had a bunch of Peace Protesters get out of hand. As I have been saying earlier we are in kind of a fragile state of affaires right now and it will not take much to set things off.
The left has pulled out the old 1960's playbook thinkingto just rerun the old game plan with the same results. But there are some really big differences between then and now. First most of the protesters back then had been raised not to cross over certain lines and for the most part they didn't (not always Democratic National Convention springs to mind). This generation of protesters is up for more direct action (elf and peta for example). What they don't realize is the right has had 40 some years of experience with left pushing them around and is not going to quietly go back to the bad old days.
Things are going to get really ugly soon and I am so glad I live out here in fly over country.

If you go into someone's home down here in Texas and threaten them, you are very likely to have to be carried out the door in a stretcher. And loaded into a hearse. No person should have the safety of their home violated, and many states in the fly-over country(ala southdakotaboy) allow lethal force to be used if someone does.

NY Pistol permit laws are quite the nuisance, especially depending upon which county you have to go through to get one.

In the meantime, I highly recommend a shotgun (I keep a Remington 870 handy for unwanted visitors) for home defense, slug shot or buckshot can be a handy convincer.

For "preparedness" purposes, a very good scope and a good deer rifle (30.06 Springfield ala M1 Garand) make for good company. Plus it can put food on the table as needed. :)

A CAR-15 with a Trijicon scope is fun for target practice, and might be good enough to "reach out and touch someone" at up to moderate range (I can hit with a 2" group at a 500 yard range within 4" of center of mass, I need more range time I guess :P )

But if you need stopping power at very close range, few things can beat a Desert Eagle .50 or a Glock 22, IMHO.
