Charles has an image up of a weapons cache at lgf which may be photo-shopped. The Iranians are using it to suggest America supplied weapons to insurgents inside Iran.
Judging by the logo scroll down to see logo at right, the cartridges displayed appear to be Winchester cartridges - Caliber 7.62x39 with a 123 grain bullet. I think they could be AK 47 rounds, I'm unsure.
Those cartridges were sold in bulk to Afghanistan and Iraqi forces. Finding that ammo near the Afghan border does not prove direct American involvement at all.
7.62x39 ammo has typically been amazingly inexpensive for centerfire rifle ammo, about the least-expensive centerfire rifle ammo on the market at long just over 10 cents a round for high-quality imported Russian brands and now 17 cents a round for quality imported ammo after a sharp price rise on mil-spec ammo in this caliber in early 2006. It is even cheaper than most handgun rounds and even some top-dollar target .22 rimfire ammo. However, in 2005/2006, prices began to soar (almost doubling in the US) due to the United States placing a massive order to supply the fledgling Afghan and Iraqi armies.
It was part of a deal reported in Oct here.
American defence officials have secretly requested a "prodigious quantity" of ammunition from Russia to supply the Afghan army in case a Democrat president takes over in Washington and pulls out US troops.
The Daily Telegraph can disclose that Pentagon chiefs have asked arms suppliers for a quote on a vast amount of ordnance, including more than 78 million rounds of AK47 ammunition, 100,000 rocket-propelled grenades and 12,000 tank shells - equivalent to about 15 times the British Army's annual requirements.

I wish we were that ruthless.

you wish we were more like Iran? Ok Dinesh Dsouza. You obviously don't give two shits for freedom with a view like that

you have so little faith in the values of democracy and freedom, you'd just love nothing more than to throw it all away. I'm not saying you'll never need force, but you also don't defend freedom by becoming a tyrant.
If you're so interested in being a "trex" why aren't you in the military instead of a fat star wars dork?

"why aren't you in the military"
So I can shoot 5th columnists without having to worry about ROE, *ssmunch.

Since the Revolutionary government of Iran has clamped down hard on individual ownership of guns and ammunition the insurgents would need a lot of ammo. I've always viewed the invasion of Iraq as a means to isolate Iran, which would have worked if Putin hadn't turned into Stalin. It's going to be interesting to see how the Democrats spin their support of Iranian Islamofascism over those who are willing to fight to be free.

Buzzy,
I think you're as close to the truth about our invasion of Iraq as any thinking person can be. Iraq - perfect place for a base. Perfect place for an ally. Perfect place for a democracy so that surrounding countries' young people can see capitalism flourish and then turn to look at their own governments. It doesn't take a genius to see why we went into Iraq. It took some futuristic thinkers like the neo-cons to get it into action, though. It's called preventive security and back-up for Israel.

You guys should just start your own Freedom Army. You know, private contractors. Hell, they'll let any Tom, Dick and Cletus into a warzone these days, and pay them six figures each. And you don't have to worry about any ROEs, either

Hmm...I wondered what the hell was driving up the cost of quality 7.62/39mm rounds.
"You guys should start your own freedom army".
Great idea, scar, I think all patriotic Americans should become part of a county militia, freeing up our soldiers for other duties. That is exactly what the Founding Fathers envisioned.

Scarshapedstar, it would be great if we could. However, we can help them right away by immediately dealing with traitors like you.
BTW, those contractors are usually more educated and intelligent than people like you.
