It looks as though Gore decided to not take some time off after his Oscar win. Campaign finance reform and the web? Now why would he be talking about those subjects?
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) -- Former Vice President Al Gore said the rapid expansion of information flow on the Internet could change the future of campaign finance, but that hunger for campaign cash will continue as long as political TV ads remain effective.
The 30-second TV ad isn't going away anytime soon, Gore said at a media conference at Middle Tennessee State University on Tuesday evening.
"The Internet is a great source of hope, and I believe its importance is growing every day," Gore said. "But I think it's important to have a sense of perspective on where we are at the present time. Television is still completely dominant."
Gore said he made taxpayer-supported financing of all federal elections a platform in both his 1988 and 2000 presidential campaigns. Few - including opposition researchers for other campaigns - took note, he said.

Taxpayer supported fundraising doesn't ring a bell, was that related to him playing bagman for the Chinese support of the Clinton / Gore reelection thing. Maybe he thinks Red China is a US taxpayer and that's why he worked so hard to have China exempted from Kyoto.

"The Internet is a great source of hope"
Of course he's going to say that... he invented it.

I thought it was a source for porn? Who has hope for sale on the web?
Posted by: Hard Right | Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at 12:37 PM
\"Of course he\'s going to say that... he invented it.\"
He never said that. How many times must that point be stapled to your temples. What the hell is wrong with you people?

The cons on here are morons. Someone tells these simpletons something and they take it as gospel. i.e. "There are WMDs in Iraq", "Mission Accomplished" etc. Total morons.

These are the people, who if Al Gore told them, \"Stabbing yourself in the eye with a fork is bad for your vision, maybe you should stop doing that\" They would continue to do so because Al Gore told them not to. Besides, if Al Gore cared so much about vision he wouldn\'t go anywhere without his blu blockers.
These people don\'t care that Al Gore buys the more expensive green energy...or that he lives in a larger house than your \"average\" family of four, or that he and his wife run their fully staffed offices with global communications. Or that he has a security detail, since, you know...he was the VP and all. And they ignore the fact that Gore\'s house would waste so much more energy if he wasn\'t living the way he preached.
No...the wingnuts who care more about ideology than fact would rather dishonestly compare basically a small business to an \"average\" household by some right wing hit squad who probably pulled these numbers out their collective swift boating asses. Feel the truthiness!!!!
Posted by: mightyjoeyoung | Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at 01:54 PM
But... but... but... MightyJoeYoung. You're forgetting that Al Gore owns shares in Green Energy companies. He's just doing all this as an elaborate ploy to make millions of dollars off of hard-working American's backs.
All of Global Warming is just one big con to get some researcher in Michigan a few thousand more dollars in grant money. And you feel for it!
Posted by: Zifnab | Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at 03:14 PM
And you lefties say you don't believe in religion. You sure do-it's called global warming and liberalism.
The mess from your goregasm is really gross.

Wow mightyjoeyoung... wow... umm where to start, how about some Algore quotes.
"He is proposing to privatize a big part of Social Security and he's proposing to take $1 trillion, a million billion dollars out of the Social Security trust fund and give it as a tax incentive to young workers"
-In his 2000 convention acceptance speech, Gore said the Bush tax cut would save the average family 62 cents a week ("enough for a diet coke"). He later clarified it and said 62 cents a day per family... which is still wrong. Even at 62 cents a day, that's only a little over $226 a year. Under the Bush tax plan, the average family would save $1500 -- $4.20 a day, which is almost $29 dollars a week
"I'm very familiar with the importance of dairy farming in Wisconsin. I've spent the night on a dairy farm here in Wisconsin. If I'm entrusted with the presidency, you'll have someone who is very familiar with what the Wisconsin dairy industry is all about."
"A zebra does not change its spots."
"My first pledge will be to restore integrity to the White House. And I'll fire anyone who has lied to the American people or the United States Congress."

Hard Right, you listen to Rush Limbaugh don't you? I do too.
Al Gore is a flipping-flopping fish, who says what people want to here. Whilst he didn't invent the internet, he took the iniative to create it... so my bad sicklyjoeyoung,
Posted by: Jeff | Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at 04:02 PM
Jeff, I kick around his web site. I work when he's on the radio so I don't get to listen. As for Al, he's an idiot with enough power to be dangerous. He wrote that the internal combustion engine was the biggest threat to the environment and wanted to abolish it! Then he makes the insane claim we have 10 years left before catstrophe strikes. And people think he's smart!

"Hard Right, you listen to Rush Limbaugh don't you? I do too."
*snort* At least now we know where you get your "facts" from. The only advice that man should be allowed to give is pharmasedical tips.

You\'re such an intellectual coward, Jeff, you can\'t even admit how wrong you were about the inventing the internet lie you continue to shit out. So you just muddy the waters with some random quotes.
And please, HR, The internal combustion engine is doing a good enough job killing itself. That\'s why American car companies are losing so badly to the ones that are perfecting the hybrid engine. The best thing for this planet politically, economically, and environmentally is when he have made the shift away from fossil fuels. Sorry. That\'s just progress, Chevron stocks be damned.
But that can\'t happen when Rush Limbaugh suckers you people into believeing a renowned \"scientist\" who speaks against the idea of global warming...and is also a creationist.

So joe, I see you're off your meds again. Hyrbrid tech is AT LEAST a decade away from any significant acceptance. The infrastructure needed EVER becomes profitable.
I don't know what scientist you are talking about and I don't care. I do know that the models predicting global warming weather disasters etc are bogus. "Scientific Consensus" is another way of actually saying politically motivated and based on junk science. For more "scientific consensus" look into "Global Cooling" and the "clovis People".
Posted by: Hard Right | Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at 07:04 PM
EDIT-The infrastructure needed is no where to be found and may never be unless it becomes profitable-IF it EVER becomes profitable.
Posted by: Hard Right | Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at 07:06 PM
Excuse me? There is a significant waiting list for new hybrid vehicles. The only thing slowing down the acceptance of hybrid technology are the auto companies who haven\'t properly invested in hybrid technology. The Big 3 will go down in flames if it doesn\'t wise up.
\"I do know that the models predicting global warming weather disasters etc are bogus\"
Really? Please provide your source for that. See, HR, what you don\'t understand is that there is no such thing as Republican Science and Democratic Party science. There\'s just science.
You pointing to Clovis people and Global Cooling proves nothing...except how ignorant you are. What you\'re doing is saying that since new data has come out, the theory of the spread of the clovis people has changed, but that clovis people don\'t exist. That Clovis people are a hoax. As for Global Cooling. That was never a scientific consensus and the people like Limbaugh know as much.
But hey, he counts on people like you to believe his climatology/ creationist experts.
Posted by: mightyjoeyoung | Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at 07:24 PM
Well, I'm not about to debate hybrid vehicles under a topic about campaign finance. To that point I will state that until Congress eliminates the ability for corporations to donate millions to candidates while "we the people" are limited to thousands "we the people" won't have representation in Washington DC. That goes for both the Democrats and Republicans. Both sides are so totally corporationists that our government has lost its way.
Posted by: Buzzy | Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at 10:18 PM
Joe, keep dreaming about how the lack of hybrids are bringing down the big three (roll eyes). The waiting list only means that the govt. incentives for them have have had takers. If they were sooo great the heavy incentives wouldn't be needed. Hybrids ARE NOT the future-moonbat.
As for Clovis, where did I say they didn't exist? Nowhere. Debate what I did say. Not the strwman you created. The Clovis people issue proves EXACTLY what has been said about "scientific consensus". The second anyone even suggested they weren't the earliest human settlers they were attacked in the same manner as those against Global Warming have been. Guess what? Irrefutable proof came out showing they weren't the earliest. It was a long, ugly, uphill fight even with that proof. In fact, there are those who still insist the Clovis people were the earliest. Also, I LIVED through the hype about Global Cooling so don't tell me there was no Consensus. Same thing then as now. Consensus means jack.
Joe, ever hear of GIGO? It means Garbage In, Garbage Out. If they feed garbage info into their "computer models" then they get Garbage Out as a result.
Tell you what Joe, when the Global Warming Folks can predict weather 5 years in advance I'll put more faith into their predictions. Now take your Zyprexa, slip into your straight-jacket, and be quiet.

Say what, HR?
Tax incentives for hybrids? Right. Sure. That\\\'s the ONLY reason people buy them? You can\\\'t write off SUV\\\'s? Huh? An SUV tax break doesn\\\'t exist? You can deduct the entire price of an SUV with today\\\'s tax code. You can only deduct about 50% with a hybrid. There\\\'s more of an incentive to buy an SUV because that\\\'s in part what\\\'s keeping the big three welfare queens afloat. The government is in effect paying you to guzzle gas.
What I meant with Clovis was...that like Global Warming, our understanding is being refined due to the new data. Clovis is seen in many circles NOT to have migrated as fast as previosly thought...not they didn\\\'t exist. The extent of AGW is being better understood with new data. But the new data is pinpointing how fast we are accelarating the effects of AGW with our pollution...not that it doesn\\\'t exist. You pulled out the Clovis analogy to bolster how Global Warming doesn\\\'t exist. Well jeez Clovis was wrong, and Global Cooling was wrong, so Global warming was wrong.
Science is always challenging itself. Junk science is always weeded out. The threshold is high because it needs to be. But if the newfangled dishonest Republican Scientist community had it\\\'s way, we\\\'d be discussing science more like \\\"The Earth is Round. Opinions vary. Teach the controversy.\\\"
No there was no scientific consensus on global cooling. Of course we have these things called...computers...with thingamabobs known as microchips nowadays that weren\\\'t all the rage back in the 1970\\\'s.
http://www.realclimate.org/index.php?p=94
\\\"Global Warming Folks can predict weather 5 years in advance I\\\'ll put more faith into their predictions\\\"
Now this is where I know you\\\'re completely full of shit. Weather and Climate are two different things. 5 years is still weather.
You can go back to your regularly scheduled Rush Limbaugh as he shits down your throat the latest interview with his Anti-Global Warming/ Creationist expert.

Oh, I\'m asking you a second time since you seemed to accidentally forgot on purpose:
\"I do know that the models predicting global warming weather disasters etc are bogus\"
Really? Please provide your source for that.
And point me to real scientists please. With peer reviewed articles. And not on the payroll of Exxon, AEI or the Institute for Creation Research.
