If they could just cut off Rush Limbaugh's three hours a day we could reverse global warming.

Let me see. Wasn't it just last winter when all the "experts" on global warming said that the upcoming hurricane season would be the worst ever? A season with more hurricanes, and hurricanes with the highest windspeeds, and with the greatest longevity, and blah...blah...blah.

How did that prediction turn out for ya, global warmers? And just yesterday, right here in the South, I was chunking snowballs and helping my daughter build a snowman. My point is that no one can predict the weather.

As for pollution, my common sense tells me that fouling the air and water is not a good thing, and that we should seek to limit as much as humanly possible all pollutants. But these schemes being proposed by the "global warmilists" have less to do with pollution, and more to do with income redistribution on a planetwide scale. Why should I give my money to a bureaucrat, one who is likely to do nothing to solve the real problem? Or to the UN, where it is as likely as not to go to blue-helmeted pimps raping 10-year olds and running brothels rather than protecting the innocent?

But I stand ready to do anything sensible to limit pollution, both in the air and water. But this silliness called Kyoto is just that. Going back to the Dark Ages is not a solution I would relish, and other than radical Muslims and Leftists, I don't know anyone who does. But seriously, folks, there are 6 billion of us on Earth. We are going to effect this planet. Other than genocide, what's your suggestion?

It was 60 degrees on Christmas where I live and the trees and tulip bulbs had started to come out in JANUARY. That isn't normal, no matter what you want to believe.

The tricky problem with global warming is if you wait until it's incontrovertible, if you wait until the planet actually does warm by five degrees, it's decades too late. There is no turning back what will happen then, sea levels rise, the ocean current that makes Europe warm will likely change, mass extinctions will occur and all kinds of other bad stuff.

It sort of seems like to me, since we, well, on ocassion go to war against other countries that are not a threat, in a defensve pre emptive way, that we might try a little harder on global warming.

I can say with much confidence that history will probably find there was much more solid evidence in 2003 for global warming than their was for Saddam Hussein's WMD.

By the time it's proven one way or the other we will all be dead.

1. Raise mileage standards for cars.
2. Spend real money on petroleum alternatives.
3. Give rebates for more efficient fuel systems.
4. Encourage green buildings, e.g. those that are self sustainable for water and energy. More expensive to build but save money in the long run.
5. Stop cutting down trees. Plant some forests.
6. Make EVERYONE stick to the same emissions standards, US, UK, China, everyone.
7. Consider 'emissions' trading to limit the global numbers but give flexibility to countries and companies.
8. Explore trade offs with more use of coal.
9. Give tax cuts to companies that improve energy/consumption.
10. Get a freaking high speed rail train system that works.

I'm sure there are plenty more steps that could be taken rather than throwing our hands up and saying 'it's too bad, but can't be stopped' or continuing to deny the problem exists at all.

yyy,

Global warming is not going to be the death of the planet, or of the people on it. Earth has been much warmer in the past that it is today, and it has been colder, too. There have been periods when there were virtually no ice, and periods when ice sheets covered most of North America. Get a grip, man. This is not the end of the World.

Will climate change be a problem? Yes. But it has always been so. But we(humanity) are the species who are the problem solvers, with the brains to overcome any obstacle(other than death), given the proper resources and the freedom to operate. But redistribution of wealth schemes, and Leftist solutions that destroy the very industry that creates the wealth necessary to solve the problem, are hardly viable solutions.

No it will not be the death of the planet, but the death of the planet as "we know it" it will mean the extinction of a huge amount of species and probably a change in the plant life as well, nevermind the sea levels. All possibly unnecessary. The Sun will go nova one day, so, who cares about the Bengal tiger, is that it?

We don't know how different unnatural climate change that is accelerated might be from natural warmings and coolings. It could all turn out to be part of a bigger as yet understood climate model and be much ado about nothing, but I doubt it. There are too many different indicators that the planet is hitting a point of no return on many levels, not just climate.

We are the ploblem solvers but also the problem creators. Unlike most species that will eventually obtain some type of balance with their environment, we have the capacity to thrive in the radically off balance environment we have created. At some point, mother nature may teach us a lesson, and we may finally create so much inbalance that we have a massive die off. But how foolish and selfish to go on until that occurs. We were endowed with the ability to appreciate beauty, to create and to destroy it. Our choice, always and every time.

I find the planet beautiful and would like to keep it that way wherever possible.

OK, it's 2-below in Chicago right now, heading for -10 with wind chills of -35. Anybody, anywhere who is too warm from all this alleged global warming, I'll pick you up at O'Hare and you can sit on my porch and cool off.

Yep, the average temperature hasn't been this warm in a couple of thousand years. Huh? It was this warm before the evil human race started driving Hummers?

Thirty years ago we were told that we were headed, quickly, into an Ice Age.

yyy, it will not be the death of the planet as we know it. Get a grip, man. You're fear-mongering.

Of course it will. If the temperature rises more than five degrees it will cause MASSIVE changes, ten degrees and it will be a cataclysm, estimates that a ten degree rise in the earth's temperature would kill 90% of life on the planet.

Will some species survive. Of course. Will the landscape reform. Of course. But the earth as as we know it will be gone. You can't have half or more of the species on the planet die off and not change it 'as we know it'...

This isn't 30 years ago. Thirty years ago we had no DNA testing and 75 years ago we had no birth control pills. 500 years ago the earth was flat and witches flew on broomsticks.

Either your youth or your ignorance is showing.

Yes, and 500 years ago all the scientists said the World was flat, and that the sun orbited the Earth. Which goes to show you can't believe everything the scientists say. And you are fear-mongering, yyy, in an attempt to get normal people to support Leftist schemes that really have little to do with pollution and more to do with Leftist ideology. Sorry, but that's exactly how you come across.

Really? Did we have DNA testing 30 years ago? As my history tells me birth control became available in the 1940's, not widely available until the 1960's. Most certainly far after the 1500's we were burning witches. I may have gotten it wrong when we realized the earth was not flat but I thought it was some time in the 1500's, during the renaissance.

Perhaps you care to enlighten me.

If you really think the list of actions I posted are "Lefist schemes" then there isn't much that will change your mind about global warming or what can be done about it. I suspect other than seeing the planet warm 5 or 10 degrees in your lifetime, which is very unlikely to happen, there isn't much that would convince you.

You appear to be argueing with yourself, yyy. I can't imagine who might win that arguement.

Dan is trying to swing you to the Limbaugh for Nobel committee.

Yeah, well, talking to myself is more intellectually stimulating than conversing with most of those who frequent Dan's blog on a regular basis.

Then why would you come here, yyy?

I get a kick out of reading the what the rabid right wing nut jobs have to say about life and America, also what kind of ridiculous nonsense Dan tries to pass off as commentary. I especially love it when he gets caught in lies and contradictions. I also occasionally read at Little Green Footballs, but those nutters pretty much do nothing other than talk about killing Arabs and liberals, so it's not as entertaining as here, where there's more variety of nutty ideas but still enough 'kill the Arab animal' posts to keep me on my toes as good libertarian fighting the losing battle.

The only fact about global warming is that there is no fact. These are all theories. You say it'll be warmer in 100 years, but 30 years ago we were warned about the theory of a coming ice age. The fact is, the pocket protector set doesn't know - it's all speculation. Science needs to be proven, not just agreed upon.

YYY, you don't read LGF or you'd never be able to make such a preposterous accusation about it's content. BTW, it's -4 in Chicago now. C'mon, my porch is waiting for all you global warmists.

I've never been here before, but I kinda like it, so I guess I'll stick around for a while, yyy. You did get your ass kicked on the other thread about the Vietnam vets being spit upon. My suggestion to you would be to read closely what the other commenters say before you respond. Other than that, you make a point or two.

Science has come a long way in 30 years.

By the time global warming is "proven" which by your apparent view we would have to be continuing warming for at least a couple of centuries half of us would be dead and the planet plunged into chaos.

What happens if the climate models are right? Do you just say oh my bad, too bad for all the extinct animals and the dead people, if only there had been "proof" we could have done something...?

That is so lame.

I love these dumb wingnuts

"OK, it's 2-below in Chicago right now, heading for -10 with wind chills of -35. Anybody, anywhere who is too warm from all this alleged global warming, I'll pick you up at O'Hare and you can sit on my porch and cool off."

This is the worst brand of stupidity.

So mister, you are taking your data from one single day in one single area of the planet to prove that Global warming isnt happening? OK...

There's no debate that average global temperatures have increased buddy, the argument has always been whether it's man made or part of some natural cycle, or perhaps both.

I swear with these kinds of morons on your side Dan, how can you ever claim to laugh at stupid liberals?

YYY, you don't read LGF or you'd never be able to make such a preposterous accusation about it's content.
-------------

I can't stomach it for long, that's true. I find LGF and the views expressed there make me ashamed to be an American and sad and afraid to hear the hatred and desire to do violence. But I assure you, every thread I have read has included multiple posts about the need to kill Arabs and the desire to kill, execute, imprison or otherwise harm the tratorous liberal America hating scum.

Well, Ms. ApplePie, what's your solution? How do you propose to solve the problem? One of the commenters suggested we force China to stick to particular emission standards. How do you intend to do that? How do you intend to force people to do what you say?

I have questions. Many questions for you. Where are your answers?

Jesus Christ, the nuts at Little Green Footballs wanted to alternately hang, send to prison for several decades, beat up, send into exile or kill the two slackers who put up the LED boxes for the Boston "hoax" and bankrupt Turner Broadcating to boot.

This is what passes for discourse among the right wing nutters.

First of all China only emits about less than 60% of the greenhouse gases emitted by the USA. Secondly, those factories emitting greenhouse gases are often producing products bought in the USA. This lobbing stones at China is ridiculous. They are a pollutin' country no doubt about it, but there are problems that could be solved within the United States that would have a bigger impact on greenhouse emissions.

I read that thread, yyy. The commenters at LGF tend to be sarcastic and intelligent, and use both to drive home points. You obviously misinterpreted their remarks, and having already noticed that you tend not to carefully read others comments, I suggest you go back to LGF and reread the posts. And open your mind. My observation of you is that you have a closed mind. Sorry, but that's how you come across.

Really, LOL, I'm laughing. China is in the process of building numerous coal-fired electrical plants that will soon make them the greatest pollutor on Earth, surpassing the US in a very few years. My point is valid, yet you choose not to comment on it. How will you solve this problem?

China cares about the environment like Osama cares about the Jews. I hate to agree with the conservatives but it isn't fair to force Europe and the US to adhere to emissions standards whille allow China and other countries to continue to compete in the world economy with another advantage. That's why I suggested the idea of swapping emissions standards, something that has been proposed here in the US for domestic use.

I honestly don't know enough of about the economic consequences to say any more, it may be that the idea that Kyoto would have hurt our economy is more lies from the right, but on the face of it, it seems that we are penalizing the countries that care about global warming and are responsible.

It isn't any more fair to penalize a country for being rich and successful as it is an individual.

You obviously misinterpreted their remarks
--------------------------------

So you are saying all those posts about killing arabs and muslim animals and stringing people up, that's all sarcasm?

I find the exact same sentiments everywhere all over LGF. Innocent muslim woman gets strip searched? Too damn bad. She has to suck it up if she wants to come to America. She should go back to her home country. She was, my personal favorite, probably a terrorist doing a dry run anyway. Arab college students with cell phones...same response. What are they complaining about, they were doing a dry run. Cells phones are very, very suspicious. It goes on and on. They always deserve it. The false terrorist incidents are always 'real' or dry runs. We gotta nuke Iran.

Forget about the frothing at the mouth over there and over here about "Al AP"....

Well, I suppose a few over there get carried away, but I don't find that many who advocate violence. The issue of a preemptive strike against Iran's nuclear program is contemporary, and does not fall in the anti-Muslim category, as Iran has threathened to destroy Israel.

I don't comment on LGF, but read the blog headers for updates no one else has. And Charles Johnson is brilliant, no matter his politics. And as far as multiple purchases of trackphones, strip searches, etc., these are a necessary evil. My son was stripsearched two years ago while going on a mission trip. He didn't complain, and neither did I. And neither should an Arab, except to his fellow Arabs who are making all this crap an evil necessity.

The kid down the block threatens to kill his sister, but his parents have not yet sent him to reform school. Threats and the ability to carry out those threats are two different things. This particular Iranian leader talks a lot of trash, talking trash in public is a part of the Arab political culture. It does not necessarily mean that Iran would drop a nucleur bomb on Israel..which is full of Palestinians...even if they had one. Although Arabs that I know say Iranians are known throughout the ME as nuts, so it can't totally be discounted.

I don't condone strip searches to fly on airplanes unless there is real, legitimate reason to suspect the person is a terrorist. Being an arab female or a female traveler of any race is not good enough to submit to what amounts to legal sexual assault. Nobody could touch a man or a woman like that pre 9/11 unless they were about to be arrested and getting a weapons pat down.

LGF makes me sick to my stomach, its like looking into a bizarro would where all the values that are historically American have been turned into treasonous blight and values and tactics that Adolph Hitler would embrace are championed. It's the reverse America, not a democracy but a wanna be totalitarian state.

If we kowtow to the global warming crowd, it'll be nothing more than a ticket to a third or fourth place world economy in 10 - 20 years. It isn't good policy to end up sitting behind China, or even India in that regard. And the new economies springing up everywhere are not going to abide by Kyoto.

There was an excellent article around just today about the sun being more involved with our temp cycles than carbon emissions.

Doesn't China already own all our T bills anyway?

God only knows Dan that our economy for the next 20 years, if you are even right is WAY, WAY more important than the future of the planet. It's our god given right to kill every last animal in every last species on the planet, is it not? Didn't God tell you that in the Bible?

yyy, you've gone off the deep end. No further discussion is necessary. You've gone and involked Hitler, and thus lost whatever credibility you might have had. Adios.

"The tricky problem with global warming is if you wait until it's incontrovertible,"

I haven't seen anyone produce even a single mathematical correctness proof for the code in any of the supposed models.

I just examined the Fortran-90 source code for one called POP_2.0.1 and its amateurishly written from a mathematical computation POV. No attempt to compensate for (or even detect) cumulative rounding errors, no detection of loss of precision in results, etc, etc.

I call it as I see it. The neocons use the same fear mongering tactics as the Nazis, the same desire to curtail free press and civil liberties as the Nazis, the same grand talk about country, honor and patriotism warped with hate and violence as the Nazis and the same belief that government knows best and those in authority should be trusted as the Nazis.

It's funny, the left liberal moonbats get called Neville Chamberlain appeasers every day but god forbid anyone equate the far right wing with the Nazis and its 'game over'...its the Comparison That Cannot Be Said.

If it wasn't accurate and true the righties wouldn't get their panties in a wad everytime someone reminded them of how closely some of the actions and statments today mirrors the Nazis.

Oh, shit, you're full of it, yyy. Go get a cold beer(to counteract global warming), and watch TV or something. You need to get off the computer keyboard.

Yeah, off to hug a tree and pray to the goddess.

Oh yes, those damned commie scientists.

Do you guys EVER get new material?

all this talk about China and India not "abiding by Kyoto" is laughable and just reveals how little research the conservatives on this website have done about Kyoto.

Kyoto doesn't bind China or India. Furthermore, China is not going to nearly double its emissions output in only a few years. That is going to take several decades. China will one day understand that its pollution is damaging, but right now, per capita, China is producing insignificant amounts of pollution compared to the industrialized nations such as USA and Europe.

But what's the point of debating this with you guys? You let one commenter slide on his outright stupidity (the guy who used the example of his cold day in Chicago to disprove that the earth is warming) so you it's obvious none of you on the conservative side are going to be intellectually honest in any debate here.

Furthermore, it's not really worth debating what's proper science with a bunch of people who likely believe there is reason to teach creationism in science classes...

So go on about your denial knuckle draggers while the adults sweep into power in 2008 and drag your sorry butts along to a solution to real problems (i.e. not flagburning, "nation building" or gay marriage)

basically though Dan Riehl and his cohorts have little scientific evidence to disprove global warming

what it really comes down to is that--like a spoiled baby--he wants his toys, and doesn't care how much others have to suffer, as long as he's pleasured and leisured, that's all that matters.

and lgfers are sane?

comments from the latest lgf story: http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=24290_Palestinians-_We_Dont_Deserve_a_State#comments

Anyone who sympathizes with Palis is a plain old jew hater

they’re turning on each other like cornered rats.

in this case it is better to support one side in the fight against the other side, if only so they will destroy themselves from within.

Why is Planet of the Apes showing on the History Channel?

/or does it have something to do with the topic of this thread?

Don't worry Palis, American leftists won't turn their back on you. Hell, They hate America more that they love their own children;

We should send Dhimmi Carter to negotiate.

Maybe with luck both sides will fight over who gets to keep him as a hostage.

Nothing, but nothing will prevent the Russians, the Europeans and the US State Department from demanding a state for the Palestinians so that these animals can look for new and better methods to kill Jews.

i say hams wil whip arafart's old farts. and i predict 450 dead palis til 1st un condemnation.

Let them die in their own blood

----------------------------------

Yeah, only a "few" lgfers are hate-filled mongers. Imagine the grossness if a posted the comments from a story about American journalists? Seriously, many of the commenters there wish for the death of journalists that print things they don't like. But, to these people, this is all just a big video game. So while they are definitely fascists in spirit, in reality they are cowards and websites like LGF only serve to preach to the choir. They don't influence elections really, they don't mobilize voters. So thankfully, most americans are above this childish blood thirstiness

Why is it that the flat-earth rednecks refuse to accept global warming as a reality? Who knows and, frankly, who cares what goes through their simple minds. Many of them are waiting for a 'victory' in Iraq too.

LOL,
The point is, for about the tenth time on this thread, in my lifetime of 50 years we've been threatened with both a manmade ice age and manmade global warming. The point is, it ain't happening. The planet warms and cools. Man has a minor effect in this equation.

And to Artie, your analogy of "flat-earth rednecks" is pathetic. Flat-earth proponents were insistent in their position because no science had PROVEN the contrary. It was a hypothesis, investigation and proof that changed their minds. All I have seen is Chicken Little, woe-is-me, crisis-mongering going on. It's been warmer than it is, and it's been cooler than it is.

We've got a real threat, global Islamoterrorism, that threatens us today, right here, right now. And you want us to dismantle our economic engine over a half a degree C?

LOL, actually they sound less hateful than you. Pot, meet kettle. You're pathetic.
