Hmm. He's announced. Dick Morris' take at link, as well.
IT'S NOW A RUDY ROMP

GOOD! Giuliani is a uniter NOT a divider. I know both Democrats AND Republicans who have expressed their desire to vote for him!
He's a little liberal for some, but tough enough on Security for others. He helped clean up NYC during his time as mayor - and we all saw his committment during the 9/11 crisis. He'll have the hurdle of his personal past to contend with... But if he'll just admit he's human and his life is now straightened out, I don't think it's something he/we can't overcome...

What a joke, we are not going to vote for a cross-dressing homo lover from New York city down here in the Carolinas. I'm sure many other voters from real America feel the same way.

What a joke, none of us down here are going to vote for a cross dressing homo-loving New Yorker. I'm sure plenty of folks from real America feel the same way.

Sorry for the double post.

Carolina Man: What are you talking about? "Cross dressing" homo lover? What?!
Guiliani is not a cross dresser. I am a Republican from Texas. Believe me, people down here could muster up enthusiasm for Rudy - WELL BEFORE any of the other current options!

"But if he'll just admit he's human and his life is now straightened out..."
... then the Republican Primary will EAT HIM ALIVE!
By the end of this primary, emails will have insinuated that half the black children in Harlem are of the Giuliani bloodline. Get ready to watch the conservatives really unhinge their lower jaws and eat each other alive. These next two years are going to be sick.

"a cross dressing homo-loving New Yorker"
Well no wonder Dan's so excited about his "Rudy Romp"! (Will it take place in the "Rush & Rudy Rumpus Room"?)
Posted by: Oregonian | Monday, February 05, 2007 at 05:11 PM
Sorry, micha, but Rudy is in fact a crossdresser and was engaged in such activity while mayor of NYC. I'm not saying that he likes men, but he dressed up quite often in public; NYCers didn't really have a problem with it, but, you know .... He is also pro-gay rights, and pro-choice, and had a mistress living in Gracie Mansion while he was still married to Judith Nathan - at tax-payer expense. Oh, and he LOVED spending City money.
Posted by: Legalize | Monday, February 05, 2007 at 05:12 PM
Rudy's spinning his wheels. If his baggage wasn't enough to insure his defeat, that he is a Republican is more than sufficient to slam dunk him into has-been history. Buthave your primary, kids - it's the only way you can determine which of you is to lose to the Democrat in '08.

Yes, please nominate Rudy. Having been in NYC when he was mayor, I can tell you he'll be a great candidate. For one thing, he's more liberal than me. For another, he can run legislation in and out of the White House the way he ran his mistress in and out of Grace Mansion--while his wife and kids slept upstairs. His personal life couldn't matter less to me, but just wait how your Jebusland fellow-travelers react to Rudy's history. Then work the electoral calculus for me re how you're going to come within a hundred miles of the '08 presidency without their precious, addle-headed, anti-gay, anti-evolution, anti NYC, 'family values' votes.

i for one welcome our new alien overlords
but seriously, giuliani is probably the most likeable gop candidate from my perspective. I.e. if i was hardcore about the iraq war i'd probably vote for him.
I welcome his entrance into the gop primary. And I think he will get 'swift-boated' on the gayloving/affair/etc bullshit that evangelicals love to harp about. It will be interesting to see the bigots and the capitalists duke it out in the GOP primary.

Hillary.

Hillary doesn't have to appeal to the same GOP base that Rudy does. Unless you are saying that Rudy will CAUSE that base to vote for him because he can beat Hillary (which I think is true). I just can't see the GOP base voting for him under any circumstances; I could be wrong, but that would be a 20 year reversal in politics.

"Unless you are saying that Rudy will CAUSE that base to vote for him because he can beat Hillary"
That's exactly what I'm saying.
After 06' and a democrat congress, they're getting a dose of what sitting on their butts can do. If they want another dose in 08' and democrat controlled congress and presidency, well then the only thing I can say is they'll deserve to have Hillary as a president and the appointment of more Ruth Bader Ginsberg moonbats to the supreme court and lower courts.
Time for the base to cowboy up and vote for someone who is electable. The dems made this mistake twice now with Gore/Kerry. Unless they're really stupid (always a possibility I suppose), they probably won't make it again.
Posted by: Purple Avenger | Monday, February 05, 2007 at 08:07 PM
Nominating Rudy would proclaim that the stands that the GOP has won on for the last thirty years are now reversed. That they were some kind of mistake. That they can now in desparation diss their base.
Cultural conservatives will NOT settle. They will not accept being told to run and play outside while the Rockefeller Republicans retake control of the party.
And Rudy has a Captain Queeg streak a mile wide. Someone once correctly described him as a pope with a gun. This will become obvious on the campaign trail. Rudy is a campaign destroying gaffe waiting to happen.

I'm still waiting around for Newt to jump in the race. Hopefully he'll decide to run so we can have both a fiscal AND social conservative candidate who is worth his salt.
Posted by: Kite | Monday, February 05, 2007 at 08:57 PM
P.A., how does the far right wing of the GOP, which currently holds the keys to the party, because the keys were handed over to them, forget the fact that Rudy is a LIBERAL?! He won't appoint Ginsbergs? He AGREES with Ginsberg on a host of issues! You are assuming that the far right will suddenly stop being who they are purely to hold on to political power. This makes as much sense as liberals suddenly supporting a conservative with a record diametrically opposed to what they stand for. It could happen I imagine, but, man, that would be an unprecedented shift in politics.
For the record, I remember how Rudy was strong for my City after 9/11, and I appreciate it on an emotional level, but I don't forget what a bona fide crooked, bastard of a tyrant he was during his 8 year regime as the dictator of NYC. If he gets the GOP nomination, he may very well get trounced in his home state (which doesn't mean he'll lose the election of course).

I BEG your side to nominate Newt. His downfall would write itself.

"He won't appoint Ginsbergs?"
He's stated he wants constructionists.

"If he gets the GOP nomination, he may very well get trounced in his home state"
This I doubt. Rather, I believe the dems are terrified he would actually put NY and its electoral votes SERIOUSLY into play causing them to spend vast sums there they'd rather not.
Grab a slice of the NYC vote and NY slides to the R's. Upstate isn't in love with Hillary. A couple of years ago she visited the Watervliet Arsenal (which had traditionally since WWII been a major driving force in the Capital District economy), promising revitalization, getting more business for the Arsenal etc. Not much was delivered on that promise. The Arsenal, and the whole area, has declined since Stratton croaked and stopped directing mil-spending that direction.

If he win the primary I will vote for Rudy....right now I favor Romney.

Upstate NY'ers hate Guliani's guts (or at least most everyone north of the Bronx) with exception for his cleaning up much of the crime. But... anyone was an improvement over David Dinkins (D) who held office before him, and whose administration had more graft than Marion Barry had crack hookers.
Aside from his post-9/11 stumping and hiring more cops - he was an improvement over Dinkins in about the same way that Nikita Kruschev was an improvement over Joe Stalin. Add Doomberg into the mix, and he'd be the Brezhnev of the continued anology.
And Hillary? The NYC vote is what kept her scary butt in the Senate, and elected a round of Dhimmicrats to state offices... Pataki not running kind of hurt us bad, as not too many people were terribly knowledgeable of "the Republican guy who was Eliot Spritzer's opponent".
NY would be pretty much be a red state, if not for the blue NYC dragging it down. Some of us think that NY would benefit from NYC seceding from the state to be its own "federal district" or whatever other entity... but NYC has its fangs wedged thoroughly into neck of the state.
GOP Presidential nominee picks for me would favour a Newt/Tancredo (or Duncan Hunter as veep) if Newt ever throws his hat into the ring.
Seriously - Newt because he has the name recognition and the raw intellect needed to shut down Queen Hillary, and Tancredo as Veep since he has the smarts and the SOCON/FICON stability I like, but not the clout of the name to pull off a POTUS nomination.
BUT, a VP Tancredo would be nice and groomed for 2016.
And if Tancredo is too hot to touch, then VP Duncan Hunter is another good bet. Cut from a similar SOCON/FICON cloth, and a good solid Baptist as well.

Also, about Guliani as a crossdesser -
I read that as "we are not going to vote for a cross-dressing homo lover from New York city" meaning that Rudy loves "cross-dressing homos"... and not as him _being_ a cross-dresser who loved homos".
Fact is, the LGBT vote in NYC carries a HUGE punch - if only because NYC has a far greater percentage of LGBT per capita than most cities, save for San Fran Tranny and possibly Atlanta. So yeah, he had to kiss up to the LGBTs - much more so than his opponents - to even have a squeaky chance of defeating his Democrat opponents.
Despite his many moral shortcomings, I do not think he routinely went to drag clubs or dropped meth at the Roxy on Gay night. At least not according to the NY Slime, which is nearly the Word of the Lord around these parts.

There's only one way the GOP could get me to vote Libertarian in '08 and that's by nominating a civil asset forfeiture whore with a penchant for denying an individual his right to keep and bear arms.
