Update: Probably just an administrative issue, but according to this pdf (p.3) he was suspended from the Supreme Court and Virginia Bars in 1999 for failure to pay his dues on time. That often isn't a big deal.
Charles Matthew RUST-TIERNEY, Arlington
John at Stop the ACLU has more details on the arrest of Charles M. Tierney. I've looked on line into his background a bit.
His relationship to the Public Defender's Office is also mentioned at the Benchmark Institute where he's listed as Faculty.

Originally from Rochester, NY, evidently he met his wife while they were VISTA volunteers in Iowa.
She met another young Vista volunteer named Charles Tierney from Rochester, N.Y.
Mr. Tierney is a lawyer in the public defender's office here.
I've found additional information on a Charles Tierney who taught and coached kids, but I can't confirm that it's him. I don't want to post it without confirmation, given the gravity of the offense with which he is charged. Word is that the child porn was hideous, to put it mildly.

I was in the courtroom with Mr. Tierney. It is absolutly hypocrytical of this dirtbag to represent the ACLU. What was discovered in his house during the search warrant is just another example that NOBODY in the ACLU is worth the dirt on the bottom of your shoe. They are all out for the money and not for the greater good. And what could be, no, should be the number one issue to our greater good... CHILDREN!!! This man is looking at a minimum of a five year sentence and I know that while and when this scumbag is staying in one of our fine jails that he will know the meaning of prisoner justice! You cannot hide behind those walls.

Should anyone be surprised that this story is not being covered by ABC, NBC, CBC, and CNN. If this guy was a prominent conservative lawyer or public persona they would be camped out in front of his house. We would hear the endless streams about his hypocrisy and links to republicans/conservatives. But alas, the news media and newspapers again show their increasingly obvious liberal bias. They are so imbedded in championing all things liberal that they will even ignore a story of this magnitude.

In his young sons bedroom no less! Did the young son see these images of gore? This man has not only corrupted himself with this filth but also endangered his family by 1) using his son's computer, 2) possibly exposing his son and who knows who else to this material, 3) what would the next step be? child sex slavery? The people that 'thought' they knew this man are very wrong. One should not be judged by what he has but by what he is. This man is s-i-c-k. And becuase of that everything he has been doing since his addiction began has been affected by it. Too bad, too sad. Whether he is a person of good standing or a plan crminal he deserves the full punishment of the law. He has ruined himself and his family, no one else, just him by not being a big enough man to 'say no' to this grunge. He must suffer the consequences.
