Update: What's in a headline? A chapter prez of the ACLU gets busted for child porn and only ABC opts to use it in the head line. So far everyone else goes with Youth Coach!
Hmm. Just doing research, no doubt.
Feb. 23, 2007— Federal agents arrested Charles Rust-Tierney, the former president of the Virginia chapter of the ACLU, Friday in Arlington for allegedly possessing child pornography. According to a criminal complaint obtained by ABC News, Rust-Tierney allegedly used his e-mail address and credit card to subscribe to and access a child pornography website.
Rust-Tierney admitted to investigators that he had downloaded videos and images from child pornography websites onto CD-ROMs, according to the complaint.
The videos described in the complaint depict graphic forcible intercourse with prepubescent females. One if the girls is described in court documents as being "seen and heard crying", another is described as being "bound by rope."
The investigation is being conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and the Arlington County Police as part of the Northern Virginia and District of Columbia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Rust-Tierney made an initial appearance in a federal court in Alexandria, VA, Friday. He is being detained pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for Wednesday, February 28.
Youth Coach, Argued Against Restricting Public Internet
Rust Tierney coaches various youth sports teams in and around Arlington, Virginia, according to court documents.
In the past, Rust-Tierney had argued against restricting Internet access in public libraries in Virginia, writing, "Recognizing that individuals will continue to behave responsibly and appropriately while in the library, the default should be maximum, unrestricted access to the valuable resources of the Internet."

Are you kidding Dan!
This is America, the freedom of child porn is one of the liberties the ACLU holds dearest, right next to the right to abolish the second Amendment.
And if the ACLU attorneys hold that value dear, it must be important to most Americans... well except the sane non-perverts who have better things to do than look at porn. Even worse are the scum of the Earth who look at children that way. Disgusting, disgraceful. Virginia's a Conservative state, where they actually punish pedophiles like him strongly.

There are instances where the ACLU gets a bad rap for taking up causes which like the rights of atheists to go to school without being harassed into praying to a God they don't believe in or of homosexuals to rent apartments and work for a living, but there are lots of instances where they go far out in left field and end up supporting terrorists, monsters and bullies. They are like Amnesty International or Human Rights Watch in that they are, in theory, exactly what the world needs but in practice - not so much.

Ack. I can't say that I hope he gets an easy sentence. Too bad that the death penalty isn't extended to sexual predators like this scumbag.
But when he gets to prison, Bubba and pals will teach all about what it is like to be forcibly used as a sex object.

This guy will never do any time.
If we were having a pool on this, I'd bet on plea bargain down to a misdemeanor of some sort, time served, and a year in "rehab". No way he goes down on a felony rap -- that would mean disbarment.

either way, his career as an attorney is DONE. Praise the lord, and pass the ammunition!

He can't even join NAMBLA now. If he does time, he'll be the one "crying".

Well, I was merely pointing out that, contra Dan's insinuations, the principal reason nobody besides him is using "ACLU Chapter President" in the headline is that he is no longer an ACLU Chapter President. I know, I know; mere details, it's still no excuse for liberal media bias, etc. etc.

So say we found out a former POTUS murdered someone, would we not hold his feet to the fire as if he were the current POTUS? When you take a job in which you are given a lot of trust and responsability, it is merely responsable to not abuse that power, nor to do anything unscrupulous or illegal. When I look at the former CEOs of MCI, Tyco, Rite Aid, etc., I see them reflecting badly on their comapany, simply because they had that position of authority, and did something terrible.
Now that POS that watched girls getting raped my not be representing the current, or past viewpoint of what is acceptable according to the ACLU, but the fact is that he represented that esteemed office, and any negative press to him will be viewed as negative press to the current ACLU, fair or unfair, that's the way it is.
Whenever a former Preacher, Reverend, or other Christian leader does something immoral, some people percieve it as hypocrasy over the whole Church because of the action of one man. Is it fair? No.
I think that as liberals and conservatives we can agree on two things.
1) What this rat did was absolutely disgusting, and he deserves the full force of the law to be thrown at him (as does any other sex offender of any type).
2) It is not fair to say that the actions of one represent the values of the whole, not for a conservative Church, and not for a liberal activist group.
Can we agree?

This makes me think that the ACLU should be banned though .

"So say we found out a former POTUS murdered someone, would we not hold his feet to the fire as if he were the current POTUS?"
What does that mean? Retroactively impeach him? He should be prosecuted as a private citizen.
I think you're missing my point, though. You brought up a bunch of people who broke the law and resigned afterwards, all of whom were pretty obviously involved in conspiracies to cover up their actions.
This guy resigned years ago, and it's a pretty big stretch to claim that the ACLU was supplying him with child porn or something.

No one said the ACLU was complicit in the crime...
I was actually trying to get away from that...

From my earlier post
"It is not fair to say that the actions of one represent the values of the whole, not for a conservative Church, and not for a liberal activist group."
