Despite Democrat gains in 2006, there's a map that has to give any Democrat Presidential contender pause. Click back and forth between 2000 and 2004 and you'll notice one big consistency - NY, NJ and PA all blue and with 71 electoral votes.
With Romney and, even more probably, Giuliani on the Republican ticket, odds are that wouldn't be the case. Against a strong Right or Right of center candidate from the Northeast, it's difficult to see where a Democrat could make up those electoral votes.

Rudy can flip NY and maybe even put CA into play depending on how much of a crazed nut the dems run.
Just having NY in play causes them campaign spending headaches of epic magnitude.
Rudy is the dems worst possible nightmare - he forces them to spend EVERYWHERE.

"Rudy is the dems worst possible nightmare - he forces them to spend EVERYWHERE."
You mean like in 2006? Yeah, what a nightmare the 50-State Strategy turned out to be. Plus, nobody cares about those 4-year elections, so I'm sure we'll be left holding the bag when it comes time to raise funds, especially in light of our aforementioned sagging fortunes. I guess the final nail in the coffin is that we don't have any NY politicians in the race who are, despite whatever the 28-percenters to believe, a hell of a lot more popular than Ms. Giuliani.

hillary is the ny senator, so just if giuliani gets out the gate, that doesnt mean hes going to win NY. Even against obama, hmm... i don't think so,
I guarantee you Ohio goes blue in 2008. Iowa likely too. If richardson is on the ticket NM too.

"You mean like in 2006?"
I guess I missed the presidential election in 06'.

I'm still waiting on that excuse LOL.

No way Rudy is going to win NY. He was hated as mayor before 9/11. Wait until all of the nasty personal stuff comes out about him - NY will be his smallest worry. And the Massachussetts Scientologist? Get real. I think only Mitt, his wife and Tom Cruise will vote for him. Keep reaching cons. Stay the course!

I still don't understand why all of the liberals are so sure that they own this country again. We're only like....a month and a half in to the true session of the 110th Congress and you haven't even accomplished anything yet.
Whatever happened to that first 100 hours? When did that start ticking? when did it stop? I'm pretty sure we've passed that mark...and lets review on what you've done.
1) Attempted to raise the minimum wage while exempting the American Samoa because it would have hurt your house speakers contributions interest.
2) Your house speaker also pitched a fit when she didn't get a 757 jet to fly her and her whole delegation/friends/family back and forth from DC to san francisco.
3) Tried to raise taxes on the OH SO EVIL RICH. Hypocritical considering many of your own are the ones who could be considered the "Mega-rich", but oh! I forgot...it only effects certain types of rich people like oil companies. Yeah, because it suits an enviromental agenda.
4) Have constantly debated and held hearings and meetings and wasted tax payers time and money debating on a non-binding resolution that DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. It's benign! It's worthless! I don't understand why you cowards don't just vote on it already. Oh wait! Even if you DID it doesnt DO ANYTHING!!!
5) Also, your party has drastically advanced the election races. Just months in to '07 we're already seeing candidates trying to get money, gain support, and kiss up to the public by hiding their true natures. This, also, is a diversionary tactic. It's like a magic trick....your using misdirection to achieve a certain goal. "Keep your eyes on our pretty people while we plan to destroy you in '08".
6) Ted Kennedy had a melt down in the senate after your minimum wage bill was stopped in the senate and the republicans wanted to amend tax cuts to small businesses. Ted kennedy said Qoute "Just how much more money do we have to give you republicans. Just how much more?" Really? Is he kidding? Does your party think that they OWN the peoples money?
Last but not least your already trying to build the foundations for "bigger government" by pushing this abyssmal plan for "universal healthcare" why dont we just call it what it really is? SOCIALIZED MEDICINE. Basically that means the government controls your healthcare and when that happens...they control YOU.
Your party is trying to destroy this country. Your so cocky and brash thinking you already have the golden egg in your hands. My party isn't perfect by any means, but they are in no way as damaging as yours.

Another delusional Riehl Wurld assessment of politics. Rudy has no chance in NY, except maybe out on Long Island, and in some of the upstate rural areas. He is despised in NYC, and has been since his last term as mayor. NY has a Dem governor; Dem legislature; Dem Senators; and all but 1 or 2 Dem House Reps. The Northeast just kicked out the GOP and there's nothing Rudy can do to stop it. In order to get the GOP nod he has to pander to the loony right, which won't play too well.

Um, they did what they said they would do in the first 100 hours. That was over a month ago, genius.
//1) Attempted to raise the minimum wage while exempting the American Samoa because it would have hurt your house speakers contributions interest.//
I'd love to see you establish this.
//2) Your house speaker also pitched a fit when she didn't get a 757 jet to fly her and her whole delegation/friends/family back and forth from DC to san francisco.//
You know that bullshit was debunked over a week ago, right, detective. The Seargent at Arms for the House requested the bigger plane because, gee, smaller planes can't make it from D.C. to San Fran. But feel free to keep lying about it. Do you keep up with anything?
//3) Tried to raise taxes on the OH SO EVIL RICH. Hypocritical considering many of your own are the ones who could be considered the "Mega-rich", but oh! I forgot...it only effects certain types of rich people like oil companies. Yeah, because it suits an enviromental agenda.//
Now you're just flat out lying. There have been no spending or tax bills put before the legislature yet. They haven't even gone through the various committees. You haven't even put forth a coherent thought here.
//4) Have constantly debated and held hearings and meetings and wasted tax payers time and money debating on a non-binding resolution that DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. It's benign! It's worthless! Yes, democratic debate and inquiry into the biggest foregin policy disaster of our life time is so silly. Guess what, professor - your side lost because of totally betraying its constitutional duties in the Congresss. I know the radical right hates oversight, but get used to it. The digging will continue. Wait until they get into Cheney's energy task force.
Oh, and they tried to vote on it, but the cowardly GOP obstructed the vote so they wouldn't have to go on the record about the war. Try to keep up.

What the hell are you talking about? GOP candidates are doing the same thing, dipshit.
//6) Ted Kennedy had a melt down in the senate after your minimum wage bill was stopped in the senate and the republicans wanted to amend tax cuts to small businesses. Ted kennedy said Qoute "Just how much more money do we have to give you republicans. Just how much more?" Really? Is he kidding? Does your party think that they OWN the peoples money?//
Really? Do you have a link to anything that coroborates any of this?

SOCIALIZED MEDICINE. Basically that means the government controls your healthcare and when that happens...they control YOU.//
Take your tinfoil hat off for a minute, and turn off Rush for at least 48 hours - your brain is obviously melting. What bill does what you describe? What specific proposals? Are you talking about the Edwards proposal? Because it's not socialized medicine. Of course, if you had read anything that you are ranting about, you might understand that.
//Your party is trying to destroy this country. Your so cocky and brash thinking you already have the golden egg in your hands. My party isn't perfect by any means, but they are in no way as damaging as yours.//
Well then, I guess the GOP should start actually doing the will of the people. You had 12 years of absolute power, and look what you did with it: one fuck up after another, negligent oversight, corruption, scandal, abuse, etc. The public overwhelmingly showed you the door because of your whiney sense of entitlement and inability to exercise its duties. Now it has the Iraq war and W handing around its neck. Prepared to be a lot more outraged and impotent for the next 8 to 12 years.
Have a nice day.

I do have a slight quibble with Legalize; the Republican rule that ended last month has helped produced a truly great economic environment. We shall see if it continues under a Democrat Congress, pardon Democraticish or Democratican Congress.

The Democrats are in trouble in '08 because . . . three of the most populous states in the nation went Democratic in the last two elections?
OK there, chief. Whatever you say.

2006: Ohio flipped from Republican to Dem. Same with Iowa, New Mexico, Nevada and Oregon. That combined with inroads in Missouri, Virginia, Montana and Colorado has really got to worry Republican Strategists. It those trends continue, Republicans could sweep the South in the next election and still LOSE the presidency.
Then there's the Iraq War, otherwise known as the Republican Iraq War. If you don't think Republicans are running scared on that issue, you aren't watching the current House debate. Americans now hate that war. In 2008, Democrats have a good chance to add to their majorities in the House and Senate as well as reclaim the presidency.

Romney has no shot at any of the New England states (even his own) and can't flip NY or NJ either. Penn is the closest thing to possible, but that's a stretch. It'll all still come down to FL and OH.
