It appears Iran's struggle with its own insurgency is heating up. It wasn't a suicide bombing. The perpetrators fled on motorcycles after detonating the device, which was in a car, as a bus full of Elite Revolutionary Guard troops pulled along side. It occurred in Zahedan near the border with Afghanistan, an area known for drug smuggling.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but Rezaei blamed "insurgents and elements of insecurity" for the attack.
TEHRAN, Iran - A bomb explosion killed at least 18 members of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards in southeastern Iran, the state-run news agency reported Wednesday.
A passenger car loaded with explosives stopped in front of their bus near Zahedan, the capital of Sistan-Baluchestan Province, the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported.
"This blind terrorist operation led to the martyrdom of 18 citizens of Zahedan," IRNA quoted a Guards commander, Qasem Rezaei, as saying.

This tragic event fills me with Sullivanesque heartache. Really.

A damn shame about the 18, but a low down dirty shame it wasn't 50.

Just add "long live Al-Qaeda" to this. It was obviously a group affiliated with them responsible for this bombing.
