Reuters, dateline Washington - if it weren't for their obvious bias, you'd think they would be embarrassed to put out this kind of hype. A former State Department analyst saw "part of a plan" almost two years ago and suddenly we are going to get all medieval on Iran?
Considering that we likely have plans to wage all out war against every country in the Middle East, if not most of the world, the former State Department analyst offers nothing by way of proof that all out war would be the manner in which we confronted Iran, assuming we ever do it straight on.
On top of that, the analysis of the threat from Iran is laughable. The analyst talks about how weak Iran really is, in large part as their economy only depends on the exportation of oil. If I recall correctly, North Korea doesn't even have that, yet it certainly didn't deter them from building a nuclear bomb.
They must offer IQ and political ideology tests when you go to work in Washington, with the wash-outs and Liberals being shuffled off to State.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. contingency planning for military action against Iran's nuclear program goes beyond limited strikes and would effectively unleash a war against the country, a former U.S. intelligence analyst said on Friday.
"I've seen some of the planning ... You're not talking about a surgical strike," said Wayne White, who was a top Middle East analyst for the State Department's bureau of intelligence and research until March 2005.
"You're talking about a war against Iran" that likely would destabilize the Middle East for years, White told the Middle East Policy Council, a Washington think tank.
"We're not talking about just surgical strikes against an array of targets inside Iran. We're talking about clearing a path to the targets" by taking out much of the Iranian Air Force, Kilo submarines, anti-ship missiles that could target commerce or U.S. warships in the Gulf, and maybe even Iran's ballistic missile capability, White said.

Iran has a simple, deadly weakness that everyone forgets to consider; it has a restive Arab population, with untill the early 20th Century was effectively independent. If the Iranians think they can mess around with Shiite minorities in the Sunni world, then the US, via the Arabs, can encourage their brethren in Iran to seek better fortunes as well. Iraqi Kurds had warned the Iranians about this a while ago, and some "activity" was reported in Khuzistan over the past month.
Of course, this is far too complicated for most of the leaders in the West, or the journalists who carp around them...

Actually that all makes perfect sense. If we were to engage Iran militarily then it would be necessary to destroy all their means of resistance and to neutralize all their offensive capabilities, particularly the Kilos and missiles. This would not be all that difficult.

Sounds like a purposeful leak to outline some good plans. The plans do make sense. But what better way to foment an already pissed-off Iranian people into hating their stupid government even more.
Half the time idiot journalists think they're spreading a big 'scoop', they're actually doing some of our government's work for us.

We pay planners to com up with a full spectrum of options for almost any contingency and update them on a regular basis.
This is "news"?

PA,
Exactly. Like what do those guys in the Pentagon do all day? Watch Judge Judy? They wait until something bad happens and then haul their butts out of their Lazy-Boys and sit around trying to come up with a plan?
Right.
That's like saying all the men on military bases sit around and wait for a war to happen.

In my book, this is what I call "a good start".
Yes, Iran is like the former Soviet Union, which was only 50% Russian. Iran is 50% Persian (or for the PC, Farsi). Iran has Arab, Azeri, Turkmen, Armenian, Baluchi and other minorities.
Iran has been at war against the Great Satan, since 1979. The 9/11 commission said about al Qaeda, 'they were at war with us and we weren't at war with them'. This applies to Iran in spades.
If I were Bush, I'd read Tehran the riot act. Stop supporting terrorism in Iraq, Lebanon, Israel and everywhere else. If we uncover one more attack traceable back to the Mullahs, your regime will be removed. We ought to be speaking to patriotic Iranian military folks. If they want to keep a unified Iran, if they want to keep an intact military, if they do not want their air force, their army, their navy, their bases destroyed, stop the Ayatollahs.
We could probably make some deal with the Iranian military and take out the parallel military of the mullahs, the Revolutionary Guard for them, if they agree to take over and stop Iran's support of terrorism and stop their nuclear program.
This is what a real world war on terror would look like. I can fully understand why Americans don't think we are at war, because the President doesn't seem to take it seriously with an eye toward winning the war.

Sadly, I must agree with the consensus that says that the Republicans have lost thier mandate to rule.
The next several years, if not decades... belong to the socialist-minded Dhimmicrats who will certainly bow the knee to the moon god of Islam.
May Jesus come quickly, and all the more so if Hillary wins in 2008.
