In this piece, even Carl Levin states he won't try to de-fund efforts in Iraq. However, Murtha is prepared to allow approximately half the surge troops to deploy while working to prevent the final two brigades from deploying.
Given that violence is likely to escalate at least temporarily as the surge starts, that means Murtha is content to hang a reduced force out to dry without the manpower called for in the original plan.
His doing that is almost certain to result in more causalities and deaths among troops deployed in Iraq, which are likely to then be over-extended under the new plan. Perhaps he's got another handful of the Arab money he flirted with during ABSCAM, or it's simply blood he's willing to have on his hands in an attempt to exercise his new found position of influence.
Appearing on the same program, Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., chairman of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, said he would not limit funds for the troops already in Iraq, but would try to put language in the bill carrying supplemental funds for the war that could prevent the final two U.S. brigades going over in April and May.

Poor Murtha. He really thought he get the leadership position he so craved. He is bitter now, the old crook, and like Cindy Sheehan, has decided to keep his name in the limelight to avenge the slight he suffered.
The best plan for the Republicans would be to let Murtha have the limelight but, of course, show the Abscam video so we all remember what a crook he is.
Of course, the Republicans won't do that since they are weak and ineffective.
The ones who suffer from both the Republicans ineffectiveness and the Democrats rush to surrender are the troops. Bush is derelict in his duty by not communicating the importance of this policy to Americans.

Mutha is an embarrassment to all who wear, and have worn the uniform... a modern day Benedict Arnold. There should be a blindfold and a cigarette set aside for him.
As for Bush... well.... he should have been communicating with the public from day one, and not pulled back any punches with these BS "rules of engagment".
As much as I hate to say it... I am fast loosing faith in our leadership. I have trouble foreseeing nothing but failure and the resulting self-fulfillment of the "Viet Nam" prophecy (even though the battle conditions are FAR different from that particular war). Like Kate said... irresponsible Republicans and surrender monkey Democrats. Viva la Vichy, eh?

Murtha's on pretty firm ground with de-funding. 65% of Americans say the Dems should do what Murtha's proposing. I think it would be a winning strategy and personally hope they do it but not until late summer or fall. The non binding resolution is a genious idea. Totally discredits and demoralizes the president. they vote on it wednesday.

yeah, you're right, kyly. never mind that defunding the war would shatter the military; demoralize the troops; make america a paper-tiger laughingstock in the eyes of the world....what's *important* here is a chance to "discredit and demoralize the president".
is there no situation in which liberals will rise above partisan politics? is there no circumstance they won't spread their legs for to make a (political) buck on? no occasion in which a liberal might dust off his alleged 'honor' to do the right thing for the country? none at all?
answer: no, there isn't. it's why liberals/statists/leftists are held in such utter contempt.

The Iraq clusterfuck will be defunded. No more paying for Bush's Vietnam. America spoke in November. Sorry 31% sheep, you are now irrelevant.

You cons are as braindead as Terry Schiavo. That silly war that you lost us cost $500B. Why should more money be spent on it, for your stuttering leader's legacy? I think not. The party is over and you losers have no more power.

"The party is over and you losers have no more power." -Communist Carl
"No more paying for Bush's Vietnam. America spoke in November. Sorry 31% sheep, you are now irrelevant." -Assumption-making Artie
So said the pompous, ignorant liberals. Such venting of righteous spleens!
Ya. Surrender. Give up. Defund and Dishonor... Withdraw and Weep.
It all sounds like a such a *lurvely* idea, doesn't it?
And now I shall proceed to vent my spleen and skewer you accordingly.

I bet you cockamamie closeted communists will be there sticking daisies in the gun barrels of the Islamonazis when they come to rape your wives, kill your male relations over age 16, and take the rest into dhimmi slavery.
I bet you maniac marxists wannabes will let the mullahs pull you by the beards (or chins) and slap you before they give you the honor of *paying* the dhimmi tax.
I bet you will roll over and let them piss on your heads whilest they laugh at the America that was, because cowards and traitorous snakes undermined, cavilled and cajoled against resisting the advance of Islamic tyranny over Western civilization.
Maybe you then will drop your pretentious notions that God has no place in a "secular" government overthrown by Jihadists and Islamic dissemblers like CAIR: out of fear for your worthless lives, you WILL don a Fez bloodied by YOUR hands which had strangled your countrymen with much malice and evil forethought, and bow your weak, cowardly knees to Mecca and its false Moon-god, also called "Allah", also called "Satan".
Your blackened hearts, your beady, greedy eyes, and lust for absolute power (or at least as much chain as your wicked imams you will call "masters" will permit you) will mark you as the lowest, most disgusting form of life: traitorous dogs for whom is reserved only contempt... and justice.
How will it be that those few Americans who remain, who will take up arms and resist the Islamists to the bitter end, who cause you to share in the Justice of the Rope for betraying your own kindred and co-nationals?
Therefore pray, and pray again, that such evil does not come upon us for the wickedness that you have chosen to yourself.
A Christian will forgive you, but many Americans of that evil time may not see your crimes in the light of Christ's forgiveness, and it is they who will mete out stern recompense.

Okay!! Spleen vented! That felt good.... now I see why you libs like doing that so much.... :)

My goodness, you are a bore. Instead of being a longwinded sack of crap like you, seekeronos, here are a few facts. Iraq was not involved in 9/11. There were no 'terrorists' there until your leader invaded. Over $500B has been squandered on a war that GW Bush lost due to incompetence and piss poor planning. Bin Laden is still out there. Idiots like you are why the Dems now control Congress. Now go back to watching Fox News and see if the 'terror level' has changed. What a tool...

I can be short with the words too, Commie Carl (or how about Muslim-Felcher? But that doesn't have quite the ring to it...)
The Facts:
Iraq was not involved in 9-11, and so what if it wasn't? They (seemed like) were the best target for getting a beachhead into the Middle East.
Terrorists? I disagree. We are doing a right fine job of killing them in Iraq, and could do better, if not for vermin like you who would sell out our boys for the sake of vindicating yourself.
$500B squandered? I think not. I believe costs could be kept down by nuking (or using FAEs liberally) in certain contested areas, like... Baghdad.
Poor planning? Probably. We should not have went in to "nation build" but to conquer and subdue. Nation building comes after the enemy nation has been thoroughly ground into submission.
Dem's controlling congress? Not my fault. You should have voted GOP.
