Update II: via Fausta - Rice is talking trash to Iran and Syria, too. ha!
Update: I love it - from a BBC report on the Iranian Consulate raid.
It reports that a number of vehicles cordoned off the streets around the building, while US soldiers warned the occupants in three different languages that they should surrender or be killed.
Buried within a Maliki warns Mahdi Army piece, this might be a crucial development:
An Iraqi general, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the details had not been released, said a mainly Kurdish force from one of the northern Iraqi brigades would be sent into Sadr City, the Shiite slum in northeast Baghdad that is headquarters of the Mahdi Army.
The general said Kurds, who are Sunni but not Arab, were being used against the Shiite Mahdi Army to overcome the predicted refusal by soldiers from other Iraqi units to fight fellow Shiites. An estimated 80 per cent of the Iraqi army is Shiite.
The primary target of the campaign to emasculate militant groups would focus on the Shiite Mahdi Army and the Sunni extremists in the group "al-Qaida in Iraq" and two of its allied groups, the Ansar al-Sunnah Army and the Omar Brigade, the general said.

ooh... They used helicopters to lower the soldiers onto the roof. I love it.
Using the Kurds is like giving them a chance to reconcile some long-held grievances. Not that they 'should' act on those grievances, but what a powerful force to reckon with as their psyches don't have a built-in turncoat factor.

Hey, any of you 'patriots' seen bin Laden? You know, the guy who actually was behind 9/11. It's been 5 years after all. Any luck on that front or is it kinda like the WMD search. I think I know the answer. Mission accomplished!!

Bin Laden? who is that? I thought Saddam Hussein was the mastermind of 9/11. Does Bush know about this Bin Ladn guy?

At this point in time it's pretty certain that bin Laden is working for AP as a stringer in Bagdhad or possibly writing for the New York Times but I digress.
As for Iran, it appears that the Bush administration at long last has finally gotten things right both as a military issue in Iraq and on the diplomatic front.

So, are we going to hold the "staff" of the "embassy/safe house" for 444 days and parade them out blindfolded and mock iran? Just wondering, since several dipshits are saying we are now just as bad as the iranians. In fact, one dip argues that we are declaring war by violating their sovereignty going into the "embassy/safe house". It took us a while but hot damn, we are finally fighting back against the iranians who invaded America 4 November 1979 at exactly 10:30 a.m. Better late than never I guess. We did have to survive the dhimmi cahter debacle first.
