» New Wave of Troops Set for Iraq from Stop The ACLU
Gallup says that 61 % of Americans oppose a surge in this war, but its set to happen before the end of the month. A first wave of additional U.S. troops will go into Iraq before the end of the month under President Bushs new war plan, a senior d... [Read More]

Term limitations, mandatory attendance, pay into social security, same pay scale and retirement as the military, mandatory random pee tests, accountability for leaks of information, accountability for false statements, age limitation (that's for kkk byrd, old senile bastard), and all private business dealings put on hold until no longer serving. You know, hold the bastards to the same laws and standards of conduct we are held to.

Heh, you mean you heard those ice cubes clinking around under the podium at Kennedy's speech today?

Thought I was the only one.

Random pee tests? Great idea. They'll find out that Dennis Kucinich sits down to pee.

Theresa - the best? "...all private business dealings put on hold until no longer serving." That would separate the mice from the men, altruism from avarice.

I excerpted and linked at "Jabba the (hic!) Hutt says Iraq is Bush’s Chappaquiddick". -- http://www.smalltownveteran.net/bills_bites/2007/01/video_jabba_the.html -- I guess that title could be taken as a clue to how I feel about Comrade Teddy. Mary Jo Kopechne could not be reached for comment.

Not trying to defend the dems at all- and I absolutely think what they are doing is crap, spiteful and moronic- but to be fair- the Reps did stick it to them all the years that they held the majority- so what the dems are doing is attempting to stick it back to them- but I can't imagine this will go far- this is a suicidal issue for the dems if they push it to hte end and refuse to fund the troops- you'd think they'd understand that- but either this is nothing but a power play and htey aren't serious- or they really are more stupid than imagined.

Theresa- don't forget mandatory rectal exams to check to see if they're smuggling in anythign into congress from the terrorists- can't be too careful.

Naz,

You make it sound justifiable for politicians to play vengeful games at the expense of soldiers. "..-but to be fair -.."

Are you serious?

In my fantasy dream world for a better America:

Term limits for Senators - two terms, non-consecutive (total of 12 years);

Term limits for Representatives: three terms, non-consecutive (total of six years);

Service limit for ANY position in Congress - twelve years total service, regardless of position;

Retirement plan: conversion of all retirement accounts to the current FERS system (drastically reduces the share they get versus the "Civil Service Retirement System" (CSRS) that they are entitled to at a gross cost to taxpayers;

Across-the-board reduction in pay to a capped maximum of $100,000 USD per annum;

Junkets/Golf Trips/Schmoozing Expenses will be paid out of thier salaries, and not other government funds;

Oaths to upholding thier offices with interity and loyalty to the Constitution and the Nation shall be sworn annually;

Islam shall not qualify under the Establishment and Tests clause - and will be treated as an "enemy ideology" in the same vein as Communist sympathy was in the Cold War era. Muslim congresspersons would be summarily dismissed and forbidden from holding federal public office;

Business activities and interests of seated congresspersons would be sealed, suspended, and forbidden, and thier access to funds from said businesses frozen.

..............

On the flip side of all of that, Presidents should either ask for a formal declaration of war, or an equivalent measure against non-state actors (like Al-Q) in Congress to achieve a specific tangible goal before deploying overseas forces into combat for any length of time exceeding a year.

The thing that kind of eats my lunch about the GWOT is that it is arrayed against the intangible (but very real) spectre of terrorism. Sounds nice, but as long as our hands are tied by politically correct Rules of Engagement (this goes beyond Geneva) - the terrorists will play "hidey-go-blow-you-up" as long as they please.

A more tangible goal (in my eyes) would be to "destroy the warmaking potential of the region", or "reduce the enemy population to obedience", or maybe even "systematically eradicating Islam" itself through an extensive propaganda and bombing campaign against the terrorist sponsors' hideaways without regard to the civilian casualties... i.e. if you are willing to have a terror imam in your town, then so sorry if your town gets flattened when the Tomahawks and the GBU-82s start raining down.

Oh, and then go on a true war footing, with a diversion of a far more substantial percentage of the GDP to the war effort (perhaps all that ca$h we save pampering the Democrat congresspeople would do the trick) - complete with rationing, war bonds, and committing at least 500k ~ 800k ground troops to the area.

Or we could go the easier route and reduce the region to a sterilized glassy parking lot.

Yeah, that would make my night... until I woke up.

well pheonix- I guess I didn't mean 'to be fair' you're right- they are playing games at soldiers expense, and they pander to terrorists as does the main stream media and that borders on treason in my opinion- I guess I meant that while I don't condone their moronic actions in any way shape or form, one can see that they are responding to years of the same being done to them- that in no way justifies it- didn't mean to leave that impression- just worded it wrong.

Payback's a bitch. Speaking of murderers, how's Laura Bush doing?

Term limits would eliminate careerism amongst elected officials and curb corruption (less time for lobbyists to develop personal relationships with congressmen).

Hanging cowards doesn't seem to jive with protected speech. But to each his own.
