Does Sadr's militia want a peace of cake? Or are they wasting time because they intend to eat it, too?
I'm not sure, what about you?
During the meetings, which took place on Jan. 17 and, most recently, on Monday, Mr. Daraji laid out a proposal from what he said were all the major political and militia groups in Sadr City, the senior Iraqi official said. The groups were eager to head off a major American military offensive in the district, home to two million Shiites, as the Americans begin a sweeping new effort to retake the streets of Baghdad.

Weakest. Izzard reference. Ever.

Ha, a friend of mine loved that Eddie Izzard bit, and now whenever I hear "cake... or death?", I imagine a blonde girl laughing hysterically. Good times, good times...

Wise strategy on Sadr's part. But I wouldn't believe him for a minute. It's a bad Catch 22 for the Iraqis soldiers and ours. If they won't fight, they won't fight. They have all the time in the world to wait us out. If the civil corps the president talked about managed to get in there in the hiatus and really set up some kind of future for the residents there, it might be they will think twice about going back to violence. It could be a great opportunity to use the micro-debt thing and help people establish a livelihood.
But, if one soldier dies, level the place.
