I'll be live-blogging it. No I won't. You can hear what he says just as well as I can. Troop surge already begun, according to ABCNews, although 90 troops hardly seems like enough to say it's already ongoning. The architect... [Read More]

But what will we do to Iran??????

Well, along with securing teh border, he hsaid we would hunt down networks materialy supporting the violence. I take that to mean we'll stike over the border if required.

show'em what for on the borders. buildup up slow and steady and then pop them mofos a cap if they get out of line. what is more impressive than a usa aircraft carrier group? give the klingons something to think about. go usa and thank the stars for gw.

Dan we have known Iran and Syria fuel the fire and provide support for the enemy.Dan do you think he will get serious with Iran????

ben I hope you are right.

do you think he will get serious with Iran????

Well, I found the language very interesting. He talked of diplomacy in the region ... but he said something else: "Iran is providing material support for attacks on American troops. We will disrupt the attacks on our forces."

and then: "And we will work with others to prevent Iran from gaining nuclear weapons and dominating the region."

With a second aircraft carrier in the region, it might not be a stretch to read others as Israel and a strike as opposed to negotiation. We would want a second carrier there for that. And we don't send them out together every day like this.

Well Dan Bush has to perform while he has the time.Sometimes you gotta go all in.

Cmon, does anyone take this stammering embarrassment seriously? What a joke. I bet the Iranians are petrified.

Its about time Bush acknowledged that Iraq is a clusterfuck and that it's his fault. Its sad how your right wing clowns think that 25K more troops is going to bring you victory. Too funny - better off looking for the WMDs. In any case, stay the course!!

"Our past efforts to secure Baghdad failed for two principal reasons: There were not enough Iraqi and American troops to secure neighborhoods that had been cleared of terrorists and insurgents.

___And there were too many restrictions on the troops we did have.___"

Finally.

Let us see the gloves come off.

Give 'em hell, boys.

I'd like to see some of that AC130 work done on the Iranian border.

Captain Joe: I'd like to see some AC130 work done on Tehran. And some F-15 work, and some B-2 work, and some cruise missiles .... I linked from "THE SPEECH, THE SURGE, ..." -- http://www.smalltownveteran.net/bills_bites/2007/01/the_speech.html

There was some commentary on how dryly Bush delivered this speech. I think it was perfect. Bill Kristol wanted an "Whoa!" speech, but as Dan noted in comments above, Bush made direct reference to stopping any 'help' from Iran. He spoke the words out as part of his 'boring' script, and the whole world heard it.

"Give 'em hell" is right.

"He talked of diplomacy in the region ..."

Some Retief style diplomacy I hope.

Our future anti-Iranian allies are in the Iraqi Army, who will:
1) put down the violence in Baghdad, with US support
2) continue training with Americans and receiving equipment by Americans
3) will have leaders who begin to claim that it is Iran who is supporting the terrorists, not America; Iran who is responsible for the murders (not America nor Iraq); Iran who must stop their meddling in Iraq.

Great news. Bush has 12-24 months, and has to bet on the Iraqi Army.

The anti-Bush folk don't like to compare Iraq with Darfur, but when talking about messy situations, Darfur is worse. If the Iraqi army is really only a year away from competent security, a surge now is good.

Will the training of Iraqis include fighter-bomber jets, and cruise missle launching? What if the Iraqi Arabs decide to liberate Arab Iran (where much of the oil is) from Persian oppression?

Opening Salvos of a greater Middle East War -

A war involving the US, Israel, Iran, Syria, Hezbollah and Al Qaeda…..
