Allah posts a link to a news report on what may be a still on going clash in Iraq said to have resulted in the deaths of 250 insurgents and the downing of a US chopper:
Shi’ite political sources said the gunmen appeared to be both Sunni Arabs and Shi’ites loyal to a cleric called Ahmed Hassani…
It appears that Ahmed Hassani was linked to Muqtada Sadr when he was arrested back in June and probably released at the request of Sadr. Given that the fighters loyal to him killed today are being reported as both Sunni and Shi'ite, either Sadr is headed toward becoming an anti-government force regardless of sectarian stripe, or more likely, Hassani broke off from a purely sectarian driven insurgency and was looking to become a force all his own.
This could be a major blow against the increasingly rogue militias.
A key figure suspected of leading a terrorist network in Karbala, Iraq, who is accused of being behind attacks against Iraqi citizens and Iraqi and coalition forces, has been arrested, the U.S. military announced June 16. The suspect, Sheikh Aqeel, was arrested along with two other members of the 40-member local council -- Ahmed Hassani, affiliated with the movement of radical Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr, and Gasid Karim, an independent.

"This could be a major blow against the increasingly rogue militias."
Oh, no doubt about that. It'll be a turning point. Just like the death of Saddam's sons.... Just like Bremer's satrap appointment... Just like the Iraqi "elections"... Just like Saddam's capture.... Just like the adoption of the Iraqi constitution.... Just like al-Maliki's appointment as Prime Minister.... Just like Zarqawi's death....
Damn, we've had so many turning points, we're all dizzy with victory!
