The AP "Is" Lying Now
Now that Peace Mom Cindy Sheehan has a rap sheet, it looks like the AP is preparing to give the world Peace Grandma, even if they have to lie to do it.
Vt. Woman Is an Unlikely Peace Activist
By JOHN CURRAN
Associated Press WriterBENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) -- Meet the anti-war movement's newest folk hero: 69-year-old Rosemarie Jackowski, whose arrest during an anti-war protest has made her a cause celebre.
A prosecutor's plan to retry her for blocking traffic while protesting the Iraq war is turning the feisty 4-foot-10 inch former schoolteacher into a darling of the dove crowd.
Bloggers have rallied behind her, peace activists are deluging her with messages of support, and advocates have established a defense fund.
"She's not a loony toon by any means," said Andrew Schoerke, 73, a retired U.S. Navy captain who was arrested with her. "She's a very down to earth, sensible, caring person with some very strong convictions."
Strong convictions? You bet! You know, like the government has so many sooper secret military bases concealed around the world, (shhh!) why poor old Grandma can't even keep count!
The Secret That the Government Kept for 30 Years
By Rosemarie Jackowski
Yes, how could she ever be a "likely" protester ... what with her career in advocacy journalism and all. Rosemarie Jackowski is an advocacy journalist living in Vermont.
I mean, just because she wrote this endorsement of Ward Churchill, heck, that doesn't make Grandma nutz!
Vermont Vets Support Ward Churchill Statement
Monday June 19th, 2006, by Rosemarie Jackowski
Gee, why didn't they mention her run for Attorney General in Vermont?
My name will appear on the November ballot as a candidate for State Attorney General. I am the mother of one and the grandmother of two. In the 1970's I founded an organization, Justice for Children. I have spent much time in courtrooms and have had a front row seat to observe how the legal system works.
So, move over Cindy Sheehan ... while Peace Mom was in court, Peace Grandma slipped in to steal your crown ... courtesy of the AP, of course.
Even if they won't tell the truth to their readers about who she is. Unlikely peace activist ... yeah, sure.
Thanks, AP .. for getting it so right, again ... not!

Is she a military Vet? If not; how could she be a member of Veterans For Peace? Of course she did have a Vet with her when she was arrested.

Says she was Air Force at one point - maybe WWI - heh!
Ed.-- Guess that would be Army Air Corp??

The AP doesn't lie because it can -- it lies because that is its fundamental nature. Guys, this behavior is nothing new. What is new is that we're finding out about it.

I don't get it...what did the AP lie about? Saying she is an unlikely peace activist? Wow, they really pulled a fast one there.
Jackowski's strong convictions led her to stand up against a war even your readers must admit was started on lies and is a total disaster. VT prosecutors are wasting time and money retrying her when they should instead thank her for trying to call attention to this madness.

See, I'm an asshole... I could spend 200 words pointing out exactly why and how James is wrong. Instead, I'll just call him "James O'Sheathead" and let it be done. Oh, and his mother's a cunt.

I find it interesting is that the personal reference they use for Granny Moonbat is a former military officer who has, in his dotage, gone moonbat himself. And the media wonder why we mossbacks say they live in an echo chamber.
What makes this gibbering leftist "unlikely" to be a moonbat in the first place? Her shortness? That she was a government functionary? That she has grandchildren? Or is it just AP "plain folks" agit-prop to make it seem like a previously rational granny was forced into dropping her knitting and taking up her sign and trespassing because of Chimpy Katrinaburton?
Posted by: Jeffersonian | Monday, December 18, 2006 at 03:16 PM
I love her description of the Veterans for Peace, "Some are Democrats, others are not," as if to imply that the "others" might be of a more conservative persuasion! I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that the "others" are actually socialist/communist in orientation.

"even your readers must admit was started on lies and is a total disaster"
For the three hundred and eighty seven thousandth time, no and no. For one, a lie is intentional. If you said, "was started on bad information", well then you'd have a point. . .at least in part (if you ignore all the myriad clearly stated reasons BESIDES WMD's that were declared from the outset). Disaster? That's what the AP says, but we see how honest THEIR reporting is right here. So it's no surprise that the guys over there actually doing the fighting don't agree by and large.

Via Google, I quickly discovered that Rosemarie Jackowski is a member of the Socialist Party USA, which advocates genuine socialism, including nationalization of American corporations:
"Socialists participate in the electoral process to present socialist alternatives. The Socialist Party does not divorce electoral politics from other strategies for basic change. While a minority, we fight for progressive changes compatible with a socialist future. When a majority we will rapidly introduce those changes, which constitute socialism, with priority to the elimination of the power of big business through public ownership and workers' control."
http://votesocialist.info/vt.html
That puts her way out there on the fringe. Very few Leftists these days advocate nationalization of American corporations. I would like to ask Ms. Jackowski if she thinks that the skyrocketing computer and electronic technology we now enjoy (including the website that her Socialist Party uses) would be possible under a socialist system. And if so, why haven't socialist countries produced anything like Apple, Microsoft, Adobe, Dell, etc.

Try a little research before you promote some sweet little ole Granny as an impromptu 'Peace Grandma.'
I have trouble spelling journalism, let alone being on of the indoctrinated professional. But it took only a few minutes to learn that this is not innocent granny has been a trouble maker for the past several years.

WOW!
Slam dunk post. And the comments add a lot of content as well!
In all fairness, it was probably an AP editor instead of writer that turned the 'unlikely' phrase which would mean it is even more of and institutional problem. The media is totally clueless, but what interests me is the lady's demographics. I've been playing with an analysis with the objective of predicting when we can expect the radical left to start ebbing (may blog it when it is mature). Granny Jackowski here falls clearly into a large group that preceded the hippie cohorts: a group I've tentatively identified as the 'Proto-Hippies'. Proto-Hippies almost inevitably prove to have:
1.Been born before WWII but were not really old enough to have fathomed what was going on at the time, and
2. Went down the Marxist path around college age in the 50's.
And people wonder why the young don't respect their elders as much as in the 'old days'.

Cool, good outing of that leftist Granny.
SMSgtMac, blog it - most folks don't consider succession of age cohorts when considering political development long term, even though it seems one of the most important factors. Once a hippy, always a commie.
I been thinking along similar lines. The influence of radical left cohort should start to ebb real soon, it will peak in the next 5 years and decline rapidly thereafter (just as the greatest generation defeated the USSR and then faded overnight in the early 90's).
Back of envelope calculations : figure core leftist cohort is baby boomers born ~1945-50 , college age years ~65-70, age now = 55-60, Peak of influence is about now (senior managers), Marked decline should start with retirements age 65 = 2010-2015, Due to average old age of US politicans add 5 years house/senate, near complete senescence around 2020-2025.
Worst case add 5 years for kids in high school during the hippie era.

"Unlikely" peace activist who's been arrested before for protesting against the war! From the bio-squib at the bottom of the secret-bases article linked....
"Rosemarie Jackowski lives in Bennington, Vt. She was arrested in a peaceful protest against the U.S. invasion of Iraq on March 20, 2003 and is currently awaiting trial with the possibility of a prison sentence."
Posted by: Tully | Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at 09:16 AM
Tully...the arrest you mention is the reason why she is on trial, for a second time. The prosectutor has been dragging this on since then.

I read her expose on Diego Garcia.
What a ridiculous hoot! During my eights years in the Navy (5.5 in the submarine fleet), I had occasion to visit Diego Garcia. This was during the evil Cold War against the really nice totalitarians in the USSR and China. Attempting to suggest that the US had done anything to keep the place (which is UK territory) secret is laughable. When weekly you fly contract civilian airliners into a place loaded with US military personnel and process them through British customs officials, the secrecy factor tends to take a nose dive. Add to that the fact that the USNS ships loaded with pre-positioned equipment for an armored ground force was not hidden in any modern "submarine pen-like" structure, but rather moored out in the open, and the secrecy libel drops like a lead balloon (the Soviets surely knew where it was and had the option of photographing it either by spyplane or satellite). If the US insisted upon removing all the locals, then someone either forgot to tell the locals about it, or brought in other people (definitely not Brits) to play the roles of locals.
The final nail in the secrecy coffin is that whenever a member of the US is provided access to information that is particularly sensitive the authorities read him the riot act, complete with applicable penalties for disclosing the information; deliberately or otherwise. No such briefing was provided to me or any who traveled with me.
I think granny is just a few beers short of a beer.

Posted by: Charlton Hawking | Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at 12:12 PM
Peacekeeper: That's a MIGHTY fine 'back-of-the envelope' analysis!
I show it to be:
1. Peak leftist cohorts are baby boomers born 1946-53,
2. college age years 1966-75 with peak radicalism in 1968-1972 timeframe,
3. Age now of the worst of them is 56-63,
4. Peak of influence IS about now,
5. Marked decline should be really felt around 2015 when they are 66-73: I just hope we don't have a lot of them using their retirement years clogging up the highways driving to the next protest.
6. I think the average age of the House/Senate will decrease soon on its own (heck, when Byrd leaves it will drop the average significantly), but the hippie effect might linger due to acute academentia in the universities.
The thing that bums me out the most is that these guys are only just a tick older than me and I have to work harder just to make sure I outlast them.
Hope to have charts and stuff ready to blog by the Christmas break.

Here is hoping that Vermont, after electing Socialist Bernie "Asshole" Sanders to the US Senate, has a really bad winter, and a mound of thick, heavy snow hits this old bitch right in the head.
Then she can be the "Flat Grandma."
I hate these leftist fuckers. They have so screwed up this country, and now we have to look at the ugly face of Nancy Pelosi for the next two years. Ick.
