Interesting. He might be able to be confirmed because of his time in the Senate. It's worked for other nominees in the past who might not have gotten through otherwise.
I'd support it. But I don't get a vote.

Never happen. This country has been rejoicing since Santorum left. You've got the AMA, the nurses and doctors unions that mobilized against Santorum because of his idiocy in the schiavo debacle. Floridians and the medical community will never let Santorum live that nonsense down. His political career is in the toilet because of that, just like Bill Frist's is!

Hmm? Santorum getting to lick his unelected ass at the UN? Sure. IF Bush really ever went out of his way for people he perceived as "losers." (Ever heard of Libby?) Bush is the worst ONE WAY street in America!
Let alone how many senators would smell the blood of defeat on Santorum. And, chow down. Not a "sure thang" at all. Sorry. Let alone how Bob Casey would "take to this idea." Like catching a shoe up on his first deep-sea fishing attempt.
But so what? We're all allowed to play things out in our imaginations.
And, then you could add? What if Bush2 gave Cheney the SWIFT KICK IN THE PANTS, he deserves? He could put in condi? She's "been doing it" for a while now, anyway. An affirmative-action co-president.
He could also go BIG, and put in Guiliani. And, then claim he's having his wisdom teeth extracted, so Guiliani then SPEAKS UP and delivers. Well? In baseball it's called PINCH HITTING>
But there's no substitute for victory.
On your own, go outside and count up all the Americans you think want to shaft the Jews. And, give the saudi's "prizes."
I just don't know. But "instinct" tells me that usually crap just doesn't sell. And, when you are on THIN MARGINS, the last thing you need is some supplier, who saves his best stuff for others, shipping in all his crap at full wholesale prices.
But, go ahead. It wouldn't be the first time MARX FAILED! (In other words? "Unite" all you want. "Around the world." But you don't have good MANAGEMENT!
Bush, and his co-addicts are all stuck in the swamp where you'll find the bus, stopped. Now. Cry me a river about your patriotic concerns.

What the eff are you talking about?

Dull minds, all of a kind, huh?
Well, I'll make it simple. Santorum lost to Casey. Casey is IN the senate. The booby prize is sending the loser to the UN? How does that compute? Where are the votes?
Then I said,Bush didn't protect Libby. Why would he give Santorum (if he had a chance to get the votes needed for confirmation), to go up to the Hill as Bush's nominee for the UN?
The democrats haven't exposed their hands, yet. But Bush has to worry at what the NEW Congress does, starting January 2007. None of us really know anything, for sure.
But what if the donks are playing their own "weak hand?" Sort'a like a "come on?" So it looks like Pelosi shifts towards an agenda that contains the arabs and blacks?
In other words the democrats ARE NOT SIGNALLING ANYTHING. No "tells."
Now, whom might Bush choose to shore up his weakened position?
And, I don't think the answer is "Santorum." Kapeesh?
By the way, the name calling stuff? Doesn't make for good arguments. And, it's on par with calling people you don't agree with, RINOs.

I almost fell off my chair laughing when I saw the absurdity of SanTANTRUM taking Bolton's job. Listen, his days were numbered when they ridiculed him on HBO's the Sopranos. When they make fun of you on the Sopranos, the world's against you. They also made fun of the Schiavo's and the way the crackpot christians in Florida tried to resurrect her 15 year old dead body! Real Bad Move that'll haunt certain politicians forever.

Carol,
Have you ever heard of a former Attorney General named John Ashcroft? I know he probably ranks on your evil meter right next to Bush, but didn't he become AG after losing his senate seat?

Oooohhh, a pissing contest.
As to the subject: would Santorum make a good Un rep? I don't think so. You need either a diplomat type, like Powell, or a kick-ass like Bolton. Santorum is, AFAIK, neither.

From the sounds of things, Bill Clinton is being touted for the UN ambassador seat. There was another arch-liberal mentioned on the radio news when I was on my way home, but I can't bring that name to mind now. :(
Too bad about Bolton.
How about we do this: Tell the UN it has 60 days to remove itself from US soil... and be sure to pay off the back rent too. We pull out of the UN and the NPT, and let the rest of the world deal with the nincompoopery. That is, because we are just sooooo well liked there anyway.
It is not like that much was really getting done from that ineffectual debating club that enjoys giving stage to hooligans like Ahmadinutjob and Chavez so that they can decry and whine about how the USA is "Teh Evil".
Maybe it is time we took our ball home and stopped playing thier game... and perhaps create a new ball park centered around the Anglosphere.

First off Lindsay you and your liberal buddies have no clue as to if Shiavo who by the way did have the right to live was braindead or not. Also why not Santurum? Why? Because like Mr. Bolton he's affective something you libs despise. But the fact is we can't have cowards like Bill Clinton in charge of the UN that we should abandon altogether in my opinion seeing as it's even more useless than Howard Dean AKA Chairman Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

I've been told that Bush is going to surprise many folks with his nomination for UN Ambassodor and I know I'm going to wake up later tonight screaming at the thought that it'll be Slick Willie. Thanks for that nightmare. And why should be give them 60 days, kick them out of the building and padlock the doors.
