What amazes me is that this is precisely the type of BS the newly elected majority in Congress loves so much. Every time we reach out for a broad consensus, we end up with some useless decree that half of the sponsors don't intend to hold up.
Whatever the final result, Iran will thumb its nose and Russia, China and others will continue to do what they always do, undermine the US. It isn't even a funny joke, it's just a waste of time. As the strongest nation in the world, we have to find a way to begin acting in our best interests, again without asking permission from the feckless UN.
The Democrat Party and some Republicans are so spineless and weak, I feel bad for future generations who will be left to deal with their pathetic performance in managing America's interests around the globe - particularly when it comes to facing down our enemies.
PARIS (AP) - Six world powers made "substantive progress" but failed to reach an accord on a U.N. resolution to punish Iran for defying U.N. demands to halt its nuclear program, the French Foreign Ministry said after talks in Paris Tuesday.
Tehran made a new threat of retaliation if the powers opted for sanctions.
"We made substantive progress on the scope of the sanctions targeting proliferation-sensitive activities. There remain several outstanding issues, upon which we will reflect over the coming days," the French ministry said in a statement. "We are now close to a conclusion of this process."
The talks brought together diplomats from the United States, Britain, China, France and Russia - the permanent members of the U.N. Security Council - as well as Germany and a representative of EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana.

Good. Let's move on to Step II.

Ya know, if things keep going as they are, the future generation will not have to worry one lick about the Middle East.
We will all either end up speaking Arabic, Farsi, or Spanish (at least after the Aztlan/MEChA radicals manage to setup a rump state in the southwest.)
Nah, if we persist in installing backbone-less "leaders" in the Donkey Kongress, our sons and grandsons will become economic slaves (if not slaves outright) to a future American Mullocracy, and our daughters and granddaughters will be wearing either burkhas or rubber necklaces.
