The American Civil Rights movement was driven by genuine people with a genuine gripe - its original cause was justice, not hype.
The six Imams removed from a flight last week have not had the experience of being turned away from a lunch counter because of their color, or religion. Nor have they experienced being told to move to the back of the bus. It's increasingly clear, what with the recent jock strap jihad at a Michigan gym, that there's a movement underway by CAIR and affiliated groups to create another oppressed minority in America.
As Debra Burlingame points out here, there are legitimate reasons to think the Imams decided to reach for the brass ring of the American Civil Rights movement with their airplane stunt. They had just come from a conference with topics such as Imams and the Media and Imams and Politics.
But this subsection of America's Muslim community seems to be doing things in reverse, while also doing a terrible disservice to any group which has been genuinely oppressed by any nation or state around the globe.
Within hours the press releases were flying and demonstrations were being planned, a prominent one being scheduled for Reagan International in DC the very next day. That is not how the civil rights movement came about in America. It grew up out of real rage, not well-timed prayers and impromptu seating arrangements a tad too inappropriately staged.
No one needs to be reminded what America experienced on 9/11, though we would be foolish to forget. And no serious and objective individual can look at this particular episode of Throw the Imams from the Plane and not see a production, as opposed to a movement.
Here's the Debra Burlingame link again.

reply to splachtc:
No jokes. This is not funny. These muslim terrorist thugs should NEVER be allowed to set their jihadist feet on a plane again!
They ought to be charged with committing terrorist acts against those other passengers on the plane!
No more PC America! Wake up!
