It'll be interesting to see how ... better make that if the MSM handles this one. The ramifications are so great as regards Carter's reputation, they'll likely put their collective Liberal heads in the sand.
How else will they be able to call on Carter to opine on the Middle-East after he's been called out as a plagiarist, a liar and a clueless tool of the Islamo-fascists. Okay, we always knew that last bit. But this below is something else.
This note is to inform you that yesterday, I sent letters to President Jimmy Carter, Emory University President Jim Wagner, and Dr. John Hardman, Executive Director of the Carter Center resigning my position, effectively immediately, as Middle East Fellow of the Carter Center of Emory University. This ends my 23 year association with an institution that in some small way I helped shape and develop.
President Carter's book on the Middle East, a title too inflammatory to even print, is not based on unvarnished analyses; it is replete with factual errors, copied materials not cited, superficialities, glaring omissions, and simply invented segments. Aside from the one-sided nature of the book, meant to provoke, there are recollections cited from meetings where I was the third person in the room, and my notes of those meetings show little similarity to points claimed in the book. Being a former President does not give one a unique privilege to invent information or to unpack it with cuts, deftly slanted to provide a particular outlook. Having little access to Arabic and Hebrew sources, I believe, clearly handicapped his understanding and analyses of how history has unfolded over the last decade. Falsehoods, if repeated often enough become meta-truths, and they then can become the erroneous baseline for shaping and reinforcing attitudes and for policy-making. The history and interpretation of the Arab-Israeli conflict is already drowning in half-truths, suppositions, and self-serving myths; more are not necessary. In due course, I shall detail these points and reflect on their origins.

Big surprise! Somebody disagrees that Israel is being heavy-handed with the Palestinians.
Keep dreaming, Riehl.

Further, why would you revel in anyone being "disgraced?" Carter is a beloved ex-President and an old man. Shouldn't we generally treat ex-Presidents with a modicum of respect?
This post seems rather partisan, petty and mean. Partisan, petty and mean - that's the face of today's Republican party, isn't it?

Carter is a beloved ex-President
HA HA HA HAHAhahahahahahhaha!
The reality-based community - geesh! Stop believing everything you read in the MSM. Anyone who remembers Carter would just as soon forget him. And I freaking voted for him - ONCE!

"Geesh"? I am unfamiliar with the word. Please to define, Dr. Riehl.

Has it been so long ago that we forget just how bad a President Jimmy Carter was. He led this country into one of the worst recessions we have had since the Great Depresion.
His illogical and factless spoutings are the basis for leftwing nuts to rave.

Is there any site or person that has debunked the facts in Jimma's book? I saw the Larry King interview and just about puked. My wife loves him. I would stand up and down and say, "liar", "that's wrong"...
The most blatant lies were:
- Arafat was the one who did not agree to the Clinton accords in 2000. JC said he was all for it.
- No one is negotiating with Abbas now. Well his party was voted out.
- Israel hasn't left the occupied territory. didn't they leave Gaza and the West Bank?
Posted by: sergei | Wednesday, December 06, 2006 at 06:06 PM
They [the Israelis] most certainly have not left the West Bank.
Posted by: The Liberal Avenger | Wednesday, December 06, 2006 at 06:32 PM
And as well they should stay there.
As a matter of fact, they would do well to expel the so-called "Palestinians" from their land, or at least hem them in so much, that they have no room to arm up and shoot missiles at Israelis.
I wouldn't object to Israel putting that whole region - Syria and Hizbullebanon squarely under the boot. That whole land, from the Nile to the Euphrates, belongs to Israel according to biblical promise.

carter's a peach, ain't he? a great way to silence a noisy room is to ask them to name the single most moronic, bone-headed, profoundly stupid thing carter did as president. the choices are so vast, trying to nail down just *one* requires a lot of thought.
always glad to see that incompetent fool bitch-slapped in public, but don't bother looking for the MSM reaction. they'll cover it just like they do everything that paints a fellow liberal in a bad light: they'll ignore it; or they'll lie about it; or they'll attack the guy pointing out carter's stupidity.

How quickly they forget Carter handed Iran to the Mullahs and thus beget the bulk of our troubles today. He re-shaped the Middle East al right, into an Islamofascist swamp. Thanks, Jimmah. You outdid yer drunken brother who only managed to piss on the White House lawn. Billy Beer??? ha ha ha What a presidency we had with that goober.

"Further, why would you revel in anyone being "disgraced?""
Because he's a moron who's been undermining this country for decades? works for me.

Once again, cartoon superhero "Liberal Avenger" got his cape caught in a wringer.
And over what? The bitter old suck-up to tyrants everywhere. "Geesh" works for me.

One thing you can't take from Carter is that he's a "nuclear physicist". Well, he had one no-credit course in nuclear physics a long time ago. Maybe Liberal Avenger can explain it.

If you want some entertaining reading, go to Amazon.com and read the reviews on Jimma's book. :-)
I got my fill of the debunking. I am still looking for a more formal, point by point debunking of his lies, omissions, half-truths, plagerisms, manufacture of events, etc...

And, FINALLY, James Baker joins him with fingers in the same contaminated Saudi pie!
You think I'm kidding? You think I was fooled by the Iraqi Study Group calling itself "bi-partisan?" You think Lee Hamilton, who is a democrat, isn't a democrat on the order of Jimmy Carter's obsessional hatred for Israel? You think I'm kidding?
James Baker came on board Bush's white house in March of 2006. Leakproof place, then. But now? Seems to me to be about the same kettle of fish.

Rhod,
I'm glad to see you! I was worried about you. I hope your sons are okay.

All I know is that, as I recall the timing, three months into his Presidency he pardoned the draft dodgers. That was the one and only time in my life that I heard my father say that he wished he owned a weapon -- and he served for more than 20 years, including 2 combat tours. BTW, the weapon desire was not to do anything to the draft dodgers, either. And that was just the start of things to come. As for being such a beloved President, that's why he suffered such a humiliating defeat in the election. All he could carry was his home state. Reagan won the remainder of the nation.

MikeW,
Actually, Carter did a bit better in 1980 than you reckon. The single-state (+ state of fantasy DC) steamroller was Walter Monday.
Carter carried maybe a dozen states. Lookit up.
Still, it was a delicious election evening, as adult America rose up to toss the poseur out of the people's house. And much to the media's alarm, which added to the delight

A man that hates Joooos teaches Sunday school! That should be cute.
I never met a Christian that hates as much as Carter.
