The Washington Post elected its first Senator today. Observers doubt it will do anything to reform the corrupt entity.
Democrats wrested control of the Senate from Republicans Wednesday with an upset victory in Virginia, giving the party complete domination of Capitol Hill for the first time since 1994.
US News point out that Gates position seems to reinforce the need to stay in Iaq.

You lost. No, you got beat the hell down.
Quit your crying and excuse making. Almost a million and a half Virginians voted Webb in and Kicked macaca to the curb. Deal with it.

Dan can't decide what his line is going to be...did the liberal media elect the evil Dems or, as his previous post opined..are these Dem's really Republicans just like us.
George Allan did nothing but shoot himself in the foot, I had never heard of the guy until Mr. Macaca started to get his feathers ruffled...I can't believe he was ever considered even a potential presidential candidate.
I am surpirsed that he says he's going to concede, I would never have expected such a decent gesture from Allan, I expected him to fight the macacas to the bitter end.

Result still in doubt. 50-49-01. Give them what they deserve Joe. Represent those who elected you not those little tent people who rejected you despite your years of faithful service.

Dude, I have to break it to you but Democrats elected Joe Lieberman, just like they have been doing for several years.
Keep dreaming if you think Lieberman is going to start voting Republican on issues he has been voting Democrat on for since he's been in office.

50-49-01
He could do that, as he isnt likely to run, again. But I doubt he will. He'll stay Dem and be very Independent, which isn't bad.

Itis actually 49-49 and 2, with Sanders and Lieberman as independents. Both Sanders and Lieberman have announced they will caucus with the Dems.

Lieberman's wife has apparently told him to caucus with the Dems! All those Demo senators who backed him in the primary were smart.
I wouldn't fret if I were a Republican. If anything, this will allow you to continue your reign a little longer and keep the pendulum from swinging. Otherwise, it was going to swing hard, far, and fast once it finally happened. The Democrats don't really offer much, and you will be able to paint them with the obstructionist label in 2008 instead of them stickering you as having "been in power for so long."
Now, sadly, it's looking like this periodic changing of the guard is the norm for a long time unless and until a decent third party pops up.

I'm not sure gloating over 'we won - you lost' is valid considering what really happened is that all parties are on the Midnight Train to Erewhwon and the result is that everyone gets to eat the same blame or the same glory. The Express will discharge the losers in two years; but for now the tracks traverse a level playing field and no matter what direction fingers point, the charge will face a mirror. The gauntlet of our political nincompoopery has been thrown down. Hah..

If Webb gets certified in Va. that makes the senate 49-49-2. Who has the majority? For example on war issues if Lieberman votes with the republicans and Sanders with the Dems we have 50-50 and cheney breaks the tie. There are two senators who are independents, why is CNN showing 51-49 Dem control. MSNBC reports it rightfully 49-49-2. Someone please explain how this gives the Dems the Majority. Because Sanders and Lieberman say they will caucus with the Dems that gives the Dems the majority?? What is the rule? Do the Dems get the chaimanships of all the committees simply b/c Sanders and Lieberman say they will vote Dem on most issues, they're Independents! Does Harry Reid or say a Joe Biden become senate majority leader? How is this possible they don't have a majority. I see a lot of tie votes coming down the road with cheney breaking the tie. What about the all important judiciary committee, who will be the chairman, Specter or Leahy? Right now it's 10-8 Republican, will that go to 9-9?, please don't tell me that will go 10-8 Dem because of this caucus with the Dems garbage. For that matter if Joe Liberman says he'll caucus with the Dems could he run for Majority Leader? Please don't tell me that because two independents say they will caucus with the Dems, that now the Dems run the entire show, get all the chaimanships and stack the committees. Please tell me that aint so!

ONLY...79 Million People Voted on Tuesday
Even though the democratic party won on Tuesday, November 7th, 2006, and they now control the house and the senate, it does not mean that the people of this country have spoken.
Only a very few that voted ! With a population of over 300,000,000 million people, I would hardly say the "people" have spoken. I voted, I am only one. What do all the other 220,000,000 million people think ? Hmm, good question.
Between now and the election in 2008 I do believe we should be on the hunt for the truth. The people of this country need to be more envolved in how our country is run. 79,000,000 million people should not be the voices for all of America. Here's hoping that that will change in 2008 and the "REAL" voice of the American people will be known.
ONLY...79 Million People Voted on Tuesday
WASHINGTON (Nov. 8)
- Almost 79 million people voted in Tuesday's election, with Democrats drawing more support than Republicans for the first time in a midterm election since 1990, according to a private analysis. The overall turnout rate, reflecting a percentage of voting age population, was 40.4 percent, compared with 39.7 percent in 2002, the director of American University's Center for the Study of the American Electorate said.A preliminary analysis showed that turnout was down in some states and higher in others - notably up in Virginia, where it appeared more people voted than in any midterm in the state before, researcher Curtis Gans said. The highest recent midterm turnout was 42.1 percent in 1982.The total popular vote nationwide was 78,707,495.In Virginia, where Democratic challenger James Webb's lead over Republican incumbent George Allen was razor thin, an estimated 43.7 percent of eligible voters went to the polls, compared with 29.2 percent in 2002, the last nonpresidential election year.Ohioans also came out in substantially greater numbers. Unofficial figures showed 44.6 percent of eligible voters cast ballots compared with 38.4 percent in 2002.Turnout was substantially higher in Michigan, Missouri, Connecticut and Montana; it was somewhat higher in Delaware and Kentucky.

Anybody see the pix of Webb celebrating victory? He either looks like a duck, or like the guy who thinks he won the bleacher brawl and is getting escorted to the stadium exit.
Comical.
