If the Saddam Hussein trial is the trial of the century, that's because he'll likely be on trial for a freaking century. While a verdict is expected today in his first trial, there are thirteen more trials to follow. While concerned over an increased potential for violence in Iraq, it's hard to get excited about a circus that has gone on too long, already and has so much more to go.
As for the election, I figured I'd take a look at the latest numbers and news tomorrow before weighing in with an opinion. Up until now, I've been thinking the House is most likely to have a slim majority for the Dems, with the final result still in doubt. Not sure that will change by tomorrow, but it could. I think the R's will hold the Senate, losing 4 seats. But, again, I'm going to take a final look around tomorrow.
Having watched the MSM get so many things wrong for so long, it's difficult to trust them on the election. Also, the polls have been all over the place. I've never had the sense of doom I have seen talked about in the media.
No matter what anyone thinks, or is predicting, the whole deal is looking like it boils down to turn out. That's something that's almost impossible to predict

I heard on the news this morning that the appeal can go no longer than thirty days. If he doesn't win in appeal, they hang him. The other trials are moot. Gotta like their system.
He wants to be shot. I say send him to Palestine and give him a week to straighten out that mess for good. If he fails that, let the Palestinians have one of their daily rallies and lynch him. Even if they like Saddam, they like a lynching better. If he manages to fix the situation there, shoot him anyway.

Dan, while I am glad the US removed Saddam part of me thinks about how Saddam keep a tight rein on Iraq. I know Saddam was a dictator but seeing how the Iraqi terrorist are running wild now killing anyone in sight it makes me think Saddam is the only person who could control those terrorist. I would rather have Iraq under his control than to have the terrorist killing innocent people and our service men when they can. I think if the US put Saddam back in power they could make it clear they will be watching him and will not hesitate to take him out if he tries helping any terrorist. I cant believe I wrote this but that is how I feel at this time.

Brent,
Funny. I had the same thought the other day. I felt ashamed and traitorous. But...... I thought it with all the qualifiers you had. The one vision that kept coming to me to assuage my turncoat thoughts was that of the people lined up waiting to vote. I'm sure they can't even grasp democracy's freedoms and liberties, but their reaching for it killed me. They deserve freedom even more now after all they've been through.
What a mess...

I don't know, Hobo,
I'm wicked mean. I taught teenagers. Hmm...come to think of it, they loved me, so maybe I'm not mean enough.
Oh well.... I thank you for your vote. :}
