If you had to choose one individual most responsible for the downfall of the Democrat Party, who would it be? John Kerry? Michael Dukakis? Nah. You might say Jimmy Carter, but Carter had a predecessor of sorts.
And he's back. The individual that has been hurled at the Democrats as an insult for three decades is meeting with 60 members of the new Democrat Congress.
They weren't content to try and re-fight the Vietnam War. It appears they want to go all the way and surrender it. I was concerned about Jim Baker's influence. That's starting to look like a plus. I hope we don't end up with Generation A fighting losing what is destined to become the next generation's war.
George McGovern, the former senator and Democratic presidential candidate, said Thursday that he will meet with more than 60 members of Congress next week to recommend a strategy to remove U.S. troops from Iraq by June.
If Democrats don't take steps to end the war in Iraq soon, they won't be in power very long, McGovern told reporters before a speech at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
"I think the Democratic leadership is wise enough to know that if they're going to follow the message that election sent, they're going to have to take steps to bring the war to a conclusion," he said.
It's a nightmare. But if the Dems take a page out of McGovern's book, it could prove to be a dream for Republicans.
Meanwhile, the RNC is looking to have Michael Steele replace Mehlman as Chair.

Where's the missing-white-girl-news porn?

So what closeted queer does the RNC have lined up to take over???

So, let's see.
We've got McGovern on one hand - war hero, distinguished elder statesman, a total class act.
And on the other, we've got Michael Steele, a guy who whines about about Oreos being thrown at him, which never even happened in the first place.
Question for the class - what conclusions can we draw about their respective parties based on these personal qualities?

Don't forget that Steele has been accused of printing up a fake newsletter with quotes from other African Americans supporting him who in fact, DO NOT support him and of other 'irregular' activities leading up to the vote.
I don't think the Republicans are going to learn any lessons from this, if anything, the right is going to increase it's stranglehold on the party since all of the moderate Republicans in the East lost.
As they say, history repeats itself, and it appears the Republicans are doing exactly what the Dem's did, getting further and further disengaged from their roots, losing perspective and when that translates into losing votes they panic and circle the wagons..so the more crazy right wingers get more control.
It's truly bizarre. America hasn't changed its views on abortion for 35 years so the evangelicals blaming the losses on the Republicans not fighting for "life" is pretty stupid and saying the 'base' didn't come out for that reason...
Loving it.

And Steele printed phony ballots and bumperstickers claiming he was a Democrat to confuse voters. Class act, this guy.

Let's see, with the Democrats its "The New Democrats" but on the President's choice to draw on decades of political savvy in an effort to beat the dems to the punch, it is "Bush running to Daddy." Nice. With friends like this, who needs enemies.
Mario if you really believe the Oreo throwing story is false, then maybe you should take it up with the reporter at the Washington Times newspaper:

McGovern? I thought the guy was a joke, well actually I thought he was dead. Surely normal democrats wouldn't take him seriously.
