Okay, it isn't good form to pile on a sixty eight year old Grandmother, but SanFranNanny brought this one on herself.
Howard Fineman in Newsweek, The New York Times, good heavens, even the LA Times is jumping on. Clearly the Murtha / Hoyer problem has earned SanFranNanny the prize for worst start for a House Speaker-elect in recent times.
I guess the caucus decided they don't want to look like a bunch of Nancy boys - and Nancy girls. And her problems are far from over. Welcome to power, dahlink. It's never as much fun as it looks. She may opt to pass over Harmon and Hastings for Reyes. But that isn't a sign of strength, or good judgment.
One of the 9/11 Commission suggestions was to allow people to stay on the Intelligence-related committees permanently, as time of service built expertise. One of SanFranNanny's campaign pledges was to implement the commission suggestions. By passing over Harmon, not only is she ill-serving the country by allowing a personal animosity to get in the way - she would be going back on a campaign pledge.
This lady is approaching full melt down mode when it comes to looking competent. And the people who voted for the Dems are getting just what they deserve. Too bad the rest of us have to suffer, too. At this rate, Pelosi will never last. Maybe Hoyer has other plans in mind. It won't be long before the knives come out, actually, I gather they are out already. Politics may be the most uncivil contact sport.
Eighteen members of the Blue Dog Coalition, a group of conservative House Democrats, wrote Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) Thursday imploring her to choose Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.) to chair the House Intelligence Committee next year.
"Congresswoman Harman has served as Ranking Member of the Intelligence Committee with skill and distinction. ... She has helped lead the bipartisan reorganization and reform of our intelligence community and has served as a strong voice for Congressional oversight of the Administration and its national security policies," wrote Reps. Melissa Bean (D-Ill.), Mike Ross (D-Ark.), Stephanie Herseth (D-S.D.), Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) and others. "Both our Caucus and Party have counted on Congresswoman Harman to answer forcefully and credibly to partisan critics who have questioned Democrats’ commitment to protecting our nation."
... Pelosi alone decides who will chair the Intelligence Committee unlike with most other panels where she must seek the approval of her caucus. Reps. Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.) and Rep. Silvestre Reyes (D-Texas) are potential alternate choices for the job. Both are more liberal in general than Harman.

SanFranNanny deserves a kick in the dentures if this ancient fossil appoints serial crook Hastings to the Intell Chief job.
