Next Stop, Iran

And why not?

WASHINGTON, Nov. 30, 2006 —  U.S. officials say they have found smoking-gun evidence of Iranian support for terrorists in Iraq: brand-new weapons fresh from Iranian factories. According to a senior defense official, coalition forces have recently seized Iranian-made weapons and munitions that bear manufacturing dates in 2006.

America is fighting a war and it appears Iran is materially supporting our enemies. The evidence from the article takes this above the level of rhetoric.

This suggests, say the sources, that the material is going directly from Iranian factories to Shia militias, rather than taking a roundabout path through the black market. "There is no way this could be done without (Iranian) government approval," says a senior official.

This should be dealt with as an act of war and a few cruise missiles into some number of weapons factories would seem to me to be a proportional response. Or maybe we can send Jim Baker over to help carry Iranian weapons into Iraq.

It's a new day, a new age, there is no time or room for the old realpolitik view. Iran has taken up arms against the strongest nation in the world and Iran should be held to full account.

We need to stop playing political footsie with terrorist supporting states engaged in combat against us and strike them with the severity they deserve.

It isn't like I think it will happen. But it is absolutely what should.

I'm fine with our Iraq "Exit Strategy" running through Tehran. In order to finally trap Osama in his cave in Tora Bora, of course. Afghanistan being the good "real" war, you see. Only place Al Qaida can be found, yessirree.

Cordially...

You are right Dan. I thought 9/11 was the end of taking hits from our enemies and just turning the cheek. I guess I was wrong.

It's time to make these scumbags pay. They are becoming increasingly emboldened by slowly turning up the heat on us like a frog in a pot (increadingly attack U.S. troops in Iraq, hitting Israel in Lebanon, working on nukes) and we are just sitting here like 1938. Not good.

I only have a couple of questions, here.

In the midst of the drumbeat for acting against Iran, we are told by the Bush Administration that Iran is supplying weapons to insurgents/Iraqis. Though we don't have an explanation for the nearly 300,000 weapons of American manufacture that are unaccounted for. Also, no pictures of the incriminating evidence. Would it violate national security to see the Iranian stamps on the weapons and ammo? Seems a fairly simple thing with "smoking-gun" evidence. Sure does keep it from biting you in the butt, like the WMD "evidence" did.

What, precisely, is an "advanced IED"? Advanced Improvised is an oxymoron. Though I did note no mention of the missing munitions from the depots around Iraq. You know, the ones looted after the invasion?

Seems like we should answer some questions before we attack yet another Middle east country, wrapped in a cloud of feel-good rhetoric about how we "just know" they're EVIL and must be stopped before the imposition of the Global Caliphate, or some such bullshit. Or don't we question any more?
