Yes, it's so wonderful when the parties agree to get along. Just don't tell that to Waxman. He's been waiting forever for something besides his head to shine. And the way Bush has been behaving, he'll walk right into it.
He totally blew the election, as it's now known he was dumping Rummy anyway. And the first words out of his mouth after-wards were about comprehensive immigration.
It almost makes one wonder if he isn't simply worn out, or if he was so miffed over the rebuff of his immigration non-program, of the Miers nomination, and whatever else, he didn't just decide to stick it to the GOP, not realizing he was tanking his Presidency at the same time.
Despite the Left's nonsense, he isn't dumb. But he certainly doesn't appear to be reasoning very well these days. If he allows Baker and Bates to get him to go wobbly on Iraq, there can be no forgiving the man for the damage he's done.
And now the Left is going to do everything they can to damage him, while many in the GOP aren't of a mind to defend him. What a shame.
The Democratic congressman who will investigate the Bush administration's running of the government says there are so many areas of possible wrongdoing, his biggest problem will be deciding which ones to pursue.
There's the response to Hurricane Katrina, government contracting in Iraq and on homeland security, political interference in regulatory decisions by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Food and Drug Administration, and allegations of war profiteering, Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., told the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce.
"I'm going to have an interesting time because the Government Reform Committee has jurisdiction over everything," Waxman said Friday, three days after his party's capture of Congress put him in line to chair the panel. "The most difficult thing will be to pick and choose."

Immigration hardliners drove the defeat of the Republicans. I can't listen to Talk Radio when they go off on their bigoted rant against Mexicans. I don't see racism in critism of the immigration policy, but there were some seriously racist things said about Mexicans by some. It turned me off and I am an outright conservative, not some squishy moderate. We lost the gains in the hispanic vote due to the hardliners behaving like Kossites. 60% of the country wants a comprehensive plan, and they will get it. The hard right will just have to adjust to the actual situation, since there is no way Americans will round up and deport every illegal alien.

We don'y have to deport them. If we start enforcing current laws, most of them will go home on their own.

Bush comes from a family beholden to the Saudis. And, from the last election, we learned that the donks have 48% of the vote. So the GOP can't win! They can promise; the way Newt Gingrich did in 1994. But Hastert is an example of a fat man with a big pork appitite. He's like Waxman, by the way. He HATED to lose perks!
And, what did Bush just do? (In spite of the fact that his dad LOST after one term?) He talked a good game following 9/11. But show me where anyone's career went anywhere? Iraq? Just a place where people lined up to take American money. And, when they could? American lives. Bush never interfered with the bullshit.
And, now?
I think Bush, and family, think the GOP is finished. They'll be in the minority for a long, long time to come. And, the donks? Even running hillary, may bring them into the white house in '08?
While the congress critters? Still happy building bridges to nowhere.
And, what has to be watched?
It seems the pledges made to veer "moderate to conservative," won't mean a thing to the democraps. They'll play Bush like a fiddle. And, there won't be OUTRAGE coming out of those who got elected. Just a bunch of "happy faces" when this prez goes down to Congress to deliver his next State of the Union address.
How did James Baker come out of the woodwork? And, what are the prizes? SAUDIs! The saudis have been pressing for victories, now. And, Olmert's gonna be pressured to hand over stuff he was UNWILLING TO DO THIS SUMMER; when he did not detour the IDF into syria.
Are things more serious, now?
You bet'cha.
And, does it mean that no matter what, the donkey party gets 48% of the voters? Probably. Where are people going to vote, next time around? AFTER Bush makes this play? Which he probably knew was coming?
I'd guess, HOWEVER, that DELAYED OUTRAGE can still happen! He hasn't walked away from his 2000 CRASH LANDING! And, pulling out his dad's beltway boys? WHY DO THE SEATED MINORITY OF GOPsters have to give Bush everything he wants?
To stay in the minority party?
Bush was never a conservative. And, the social conservative issues CANNOT WIN!
That's the loose change. Bush gets to deal to the democraps over the next two years. UNLESS THERE'S REAL OUTRAGE! Gate is a shoo-in? Israel gets stripped of protection? These weren't winning issues BEFORE, ya know.
Bush #41 was unceremoniously dumped.
Where there will be an APPEARANCE of GOP responses to this Bush (besides driving the GOP majority out of Congress); can only come IF there's a unifying voice, ahead.
Meanwhile, Bush #41 took full advantage of Reagan's unconcern about personnel matters.
Then?
The donks ran Michael Dukakis, a lackluster college professor, in 1988. And, Bush #41 got his first term in office. Gulf War #1? All about giving the Saudis oxygen. But then he stopped. And, he lost the election to Clinton. With the "help" of Ross Perot.
Can just about anything happen in politics?
The beltway thinks it can survive most of the people.
Where's the OUTRAGE? Do you know what Bush wasted? While he played with the theives in Iraq? Gates, from the CIA, is not going to be doing anything EXCEPT HARMS to our military.
Ya just gotta wonder? Can this really happen without anyone willing to block some of these balls?
I have no idea.
But Bush is a "C" student? Yup. Doesn't care if he gets low grades. While he shoves others under the bus.
I wonder what voices will be raised on the Net? It's not going to be raised anyplace else. And, how many GOP congress critters would be willing to take on the Bush white house? How many would "JUST SAY NO?"

Hey! You don't want to be investigated?
THEN WIN ELECTIONS!

Perhaps the endless coverage of Katrina hurt the Republican's image, but government contracting, war profiteering and interference in environmental protection and the FDA are strictly barking moonbat issues. And, I feel they didn't lose because they lost the conservative vote (aside from a few libertarian spoilers). In 2004 they had independents, the moms, the legal hispanics, the moderates, etc. Conservatives can't win without some of the other groups, simply not enough of them.

and to continue my semi-rant, who could have pulled together enough people to defeat Gore in 2000? The Republicans had Bauer and Forbes with their flat tax rates, great but they couldn't have won. Include Keyes with his anti goverment waste with them. Orrin Hatch, I don't think so. McCain or Bush were the only ones running who could have pulled it off. Two guys who could pull others in, that's what it takes.

"[G]overnment contracting, war profiteering and interference in environmental protection and the FDA are strictly barking moonbat issues."
Um, no, Tally. The outrageous, non-competitive Iraq-related contract gouging cost American taxpayers billions. BILLIONS. Let's review a little PoliSci 101: Conservatives are for cutting government costs. In your world, that makes conservatives moonbats! What IS your major malfunction, Tally? Victim of homeschooling? Or do you believe every fact-challenged talking point that fits your narrow worldview? Oh, well... anyway, thanks for playing "Dumbass Assertions."

Bobby Gates' nickname at the CIA was The Little Prick. He is a pompous, incompetent, squishy witless fool. He is the total tool of the Jimmy Baker-Brent Scowcroft crowd that so horribly ran foreign affairs for GW's daddy. To put such a man in charge of the Pentagon - the one bastion of pro-Americanism remaining in our foreign policy establishment - is an unmitigated catastrophe.

While Bush was a "C" student, MCCain was even worse. He was the anchor of his academy class, the student with the lowest grades. The only reason that he graduated was because his dad was CINCPAC.

"The outrageous, non-competitive Iraq-related contract gouging cost American taxpayers billions."
Yes Mr. Rove aka Ass Wipe, the average American doesn't care about Halliburton, the funding of Iraq or Home Land Security. They might cry cut the pork, but not when it pertains to security (or their district). The Republicans lost because they didn't build on the Independents and Moderates who voted for them in '04. Homeschooling? That crack gave you away. Elitist lefties are such a hoot.

"The Republicans lost because they didn't build on the Independents and Moderates who voted for them in '04."
WRONG!
The Republicans lost because their de facto leader, George W. Bush, is distrusted if not outright loathed by independents and moderates -- who could NOT be "built on" because they've turned their back on Bush Administartion lies, drunken-sailor spending, debt indenture to the Wahabi Saudis and Postcommunist Chinese... and imbeciles like you and Dan Riehl who don't have CLUE ONE as to the way the rest of the country is thinking.
But thanks for playing "Drink the Purple Kool-Aid" - you were really entertaining today!

"Homeschooling? That crack gave you away."
Aw, the truth hurts, Tally. You ARE a victim of homeschooling.
"Elitist lefties are such a hoot."
WRONG! I'm a registered Republican. And I'm opposed to one cent of my hard-earned tax money funding homeschooling because it's just a way for idiot right wingers and Fundamentalist knuckledraggers to brainwash their kids and close their minds.
And guess what? I'm fighting to cut state and federal education spending by ending subsidized "charter schools" and the funding of homeschoolers. We've made progress in Idaho, Utah and Wyoming. Oregon and Colorado are next. And we're getting tons of support from small-government Republicans and open-minded Democrats. You want to homeschool? Fine -- but that's private education, the equivalent of St. Albans or Deerfield Academy. leave it to the free market.
Posted by: Karl Rove | Sunday, November 12, 2006 at 11:55 AM
Off-Topic but can't resist: I couldn't agree more about subsidizing home-schooling. (Not so sure about Charter Schools.) In Virginia a while ago, a home-schooled student had to do his junior and senior year in public school in order to be accredited. I had a few wizards come through from years of home-schooling that left the regular kids in the dust. The majority, however, upon entering public school invariably had to be re-classified at the seventh or eighth grade levels. Those from the local Christian private schools that did not have classes beyond ninth grade also ran into the same trouble. Many had to relearn history to grok that man has been on this planet longer than 6-8 thousand years.
(Sorry - This subject makes me nuts!) Yeah - like the government should fund this dis-education. Ridiculous!

mr. rove, you are so wrong, I wasn't homeschooled. I went to a private school in elementary and junior high, a public high school and a state university.
i could care less about your rabid insults, i do care that you helped put the security of my country in grave danger by not supporting your own party (if indeed you really are a republican). while you are worrying about halliburton and the environment, you can now worry about higher taxes.
