Today on The IMUS in the Morning radio show John Kerry said:
KERRY: Of course, it isn’t what I said.
I left out one word. I left out the word “us.” “They got us stuck.” Instead of that, I said, “They got stuck,” and they’re taking advantage of it.
That is demonstratively false and allegedly Kerry had notes at the speech, so there is no excuse for his misstating things now. Added: Also keep in mind the man is fighting for his political life, at least as regards any Presidential ambitions, which we know he has in spades. So, he is going to casually go on the air and get it wrong again? With the entire Democrat Leadership breathing down his neck? I'm not buying that.
Here is what he originally said:
“You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”
Why would Kerry lie, everyone had these quotes? Certainly there's been enough attention that he would strain to get this right. But he didn't. Perhaps the rumors of other quotes to soon emerge are correct.
Also of importance to individuals who really care about the military's reputation and intellectual honesty, on IMUS Kerry affirmed his disgraceful Winter Soldier testimony, already debunked. And he reaffirmed his calling our troops in Iraq terrorists.
The American people rely on the truth. And when I came back from Southeast Asia, I told the truth. And I’m proud that I stood up and told the truth then, and I’ve told the truth about Iraq every single step of the way.
So, in the AM Kerry reaffirms some of his most hurtful earlier smears of our troops and then later issues this: I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted ...
His words were not misinterpreted, regardless of his intent. He reaffirmed two previous smears of our troops spanning two decades, and now some are seeing this as an apology? Based upon what? Perhaps a fear of looking too extreme?
So some are willing to accept intellectual dishonesty to simply move on from an incident wherein a US Senator maligned our troops? Sorry, I'd have to question just how deep was their commitment to that cause.
I don't get it. I simply don't get it at all. John Kerry should be held to account and not be permitted to lie and maneuver his way out of his misstep without taking full responsibility for what he said, any alleged misstep or misstatement was never misinterpreted by anyone.
Kerry's lying on IMUS and his apology make absolutely no sense.

" I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted ..."
That is passive voice. It means he, Kerry, is not responsible for the action. That is, in Kerry's not-so-nuanced way: It's your fault if you didn't understand what I meant.
That is not an apology. So, it makes his lying on IMUS and his apology perfect sense. The man truly believes he is not at fault for anything.

If Kerry stuck his foot in his mouth, he should just be a man about it, fess up, tell everyone that he learned from the experience that you can't be a world leader and have to back-track on what you supposedly wanted to say- after you offend someone.
Not a way to put out your fire, Kerry.

Yay. Keep it up.
You can't keep demanding an apology from someone who already apologized. Any other noise from you people is fake outrage. Now "I've never met John Edwards. Death Throes. Pretty Much Confirmed. 20% Approval rating" is gonna get in the fray. I thought he died in a cave somewhere like Osama. He's coming out...for THIS?
Hey Dan...don't you have something to else to write about, like another crime report on a missing teenage girl? What is with that Natalee Holloway fascination of yours? It's fuckin' creepy.

What's going on with the Van De Sloot's about now, Mr. Riehl? Wow. That picture sure makes you look scary.

Well, it sounds as though Kerry news is old news. Hoping it all fizzles out so we can get back to the real issues, such as finger pointing and blaming: it's the great political game.

"Well, it sounds as though Kerry news is old news"
Dan Riehl's got to make it last until Next Tuesday.

Hey, I think you look hot in that picture, Dan. Why aren't you worrying about me?
I feel left out. :}

This is rich, from a guy who supports a President who's said:
“Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.” White House press release Aug 5, 2004
Is President Bush really thinking of ways to harm our country? Or, did he mis-speak?
"There's no doubt in my mind that we should allow the world worst leaders to hold America hostage, to threaten our peace, to threaten our friends and allies with the world's worst weapons." Sept 5, 2002
Does the President really think that we should allow the world's worst leaders to hold America hostage and threaten our friends? Or, did he mis-speak?
"It's in our country's interests to find those who would do harm to us and get them out of harm's way." April 28, 2005
Does the President really want to find those who want to harm us, and put them somewhere where they won't be harmed? Or, did he mis-speak?
All of those quotes are straight from the White House web site.
Pot, meet kettle.

Bush didn't misspeak when he called Iraq a comma.
Tony Snow didn't misspeak when he called the war casualties, just a number.
Bush didn't misspeak when he joked about the WMD being missing...you know the main reason we sent our troops into the fight in the first place.
They meant these things because they know they could just throw out little bits of red meat like John Kerry, the MSM, Cindy Sheehan, liberal, and gay marriage and there would be a willing throng of people that would excuse any mistake and overlook any failure.
800 casualties last month in Iraq. 800. And the message from the right? It's everyone's fault except our own.

I think that the brew-ha-ha about Kerry's words has to do with the implied intelligence of the military and what will happen if you don't sucessfully get a college education- whether mis-quoted or not, words left out or not, that's what folks are focusing on......true or not.... witching hour or not.
The media is having their field day ( which means getting paid for a runaway story, which they perpetuate, imo )
Posted by: lyannea | Wednesday, November 01, 2006 at 09:52 PM
What's a brew-ha-ha? A great frat party?

"which means getting paid for a runaway story, which they perpetuate, imo"
The media loves a horse race. The time between now and Nov 7th won't be fun if the headline is "Republicans are WAY down in all the pools". Just like with the Bush DUI in 2000, it doesn't make one bit of difference in the outcome.

"fighting for his political life, at least as regards any Presidential ambitions"
I would suggest his presidential ambitions be limited to the Martha'a Vinyard garden club. Even then, the competition might be too tough.

Jaime, this is one point which I agree with you on. and I hate poles !
Publicizing a political event for the sake of publicity is a media event- are we so easily swayed, in one direction or the other ?

I just wanted to thank you for doing such a great job of showing how insane a blog can be. Around a half dozen posts on one or two muffed sentences is bigger news than the possibility of Iraqi deaths in the high six figures thanks to U.S. taxpayers' dollars being spent on global Democracy to neutralize weapons of mass destruction that we know existed because someone found fake documents proving it... The last time I saw as much excitement here was when it was almost certain that S.R. Sidarth was moonlighting online as a potty mouth malcontent, which I don't think anyone ever apologized for. That or all those fake photojournalists running around Lebanon, surely none of those folks were plants from our side, right? Nah. And who cares about all those guns the U.S. military forgot to document in Iraq, maybe they are making their way back to St. Louis or Camden, which will help keep our domestic blackmarket in the black. Looking forward to your next installment of moral outrage!

"Kerry's lying on IMUS and his apology make absolutely no sense."
Well, yes, they do. Read M. Scott Peck's book, "People of the Lie". Jean Fraud sKerry's behavior over three and a half decades of public life are perfectly consistent with the egocentric personality disorder Peck suggests is at the heart of human evil.
It makes perfect sense that someone who is at heart essentially a egocentric lying bastard would be constitutionally unable to tell the truth about maligning others.
He can't even _see_ his true self in a mirror. All he has is the distorted and entirely false self image, which he must protect at all costs from ever facing the truth.
As Grandpappy used to say, he's so crooked he cheats himself at solitaire.

I stopped by for my first (and last) visit after reading John Cole's reentry to the real world mea culpa: "This Is No Fun." In it, while trying to be generous to his fellow right-wingers, he offers this simple appraisal: "Dan Riehl is an unmitigated asshole, however."
Now, I see why he wrote that.
Posted by: Ellis | Wednesday, November 01, 2006 at 10:43 PM
Was John Cole in an alternate universe? How cool is that...
Yeah, re-entry to the real world sucks. Is that why he titled his re-entry: "This Is No Fun."? Maybe he should get back in the slipstream of his alternate lair.

In Search of Utopia. Some blog. He sure has a lot to say. I left a comment, but it didn't look as if it was 'suitable'. I'll check back to see if he can take it on the chin as he gives it.
Posted by: Phoenix | Thursday, November 02, 2006 at 01:02 AM
Mr. Utopia can't handle reality, I guess. He wouldn't publish my comment. I didn't say a nasty word, either. I did say something about him maybe speaking fluent Arabic. Even Sir Thomas More knew his utopia wouldn't work. Human nature belies any successful utopia,...... I guess that's why some are constantly IN SEARCH OF UTOPIA. Good luck, sucker... it's only in your brain's limbic core during an orgasm.
