Kerry Just Made It Even Worse
Sorry, I mean no disrespect to women, or women in the military. That said, it is ironic that a man who married his money leads off his defense by citing a female General. But the real kicker is in his defense his offical blog cited Markos "Screw 'em" Moulitsas of Daily Kos. Kerry just figured out how to make things worse. I'm making a screen cap in case it comes down. I'll post it if need be.
What was he thinking?
Over at Daily Kos, Markos, who noted that “…I haven't been shy to pile on Kerry when warranted,” called what the Republicans were doing “a load of bullshit.” According to Markos, “Kerry responded the right way. Not by bowing to the full blast of the right wing noise machine, but by standing up to it on behalf of our troops, our nation, and the truth.”
Update: Katy Couric thinks it's all a joke and gone by tomorrow - catch the audio.
Okay what's left? The BBC and Andrew Sullivan? Oh, The New Republic - yeah, Kerry has lost them, too. Kerry is effectively done as a candidate for higher office.
I actually feel sorry for John Kerry. He wants to help. And, yes, this is mainly a controversy manufactured by the highly depressing "Freak Show." But Kerry has a tone-deaf appreciation for his own role in the Freak Show. And for that reason, he was foolish to hold a long press conference responding to his GOP tormenters
What Kerry mangles was his political future, not a joke.

THIS IS FOR RICHARD AND KOS.
RICHARD, SO WHAT IF KOS SERVED IN THE MILITARY. IF HE DID SERVE THEN HE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT NOT MAKING EXCUSES FOR WHAT YOU SAY OR DO. I HATE WHEN PEOPLE MAKE EXCUSES FOR WHAT THEY OR OTHER PEOPLE DO. OWN UP TO YOUR MISTAKES AND COME CLEAN. MR KERRY MEANT WHAT HE SAID. IT WAS NO MISTAKE. HE MEANT EVERY OFFENSIVE WORD ABOUT THE MILITARY. THEN HE WENT AND LIED ABOUT BY SAYING IT WAS ABOUT PRESIDENT BUSH.
THIS ISN'T ABOUT BEING FROM ONE PARTY OR THE OTHER, THIS IS ABOUT LYING.

IT’S LIKE DEJA VA ALL OVER AGAIN
I would like to talk on behalf of all those veterans and say that several months ago at Haahvard we had an investigation at which over 150 high school discharged, and many very highly functioning for their social class, veterans testified to educational crimes committed which led to their re-enlistment in the military. These were not isolated incidents but crimes committed on a day-to-day basis with the full awareness of officers at all levels of command. It is impossible to describe to you exactly what did happen at Haahvard - the emotions in the room and the feelings of the men who were reliving their experiences in the military. They relived the absolute horror of how this country, in a sense, has reduced them to lazy do-nothings, ill-educated in even the simplest social graces, and not worthy of the respect of their elite-university-educated betters.
They told stories that at times they had personally raped the English language by using "effect" when they should have used "affect," cut off participles and dangled them, taped wires from portable telephones with duct tape and turned on the power, cut limbs off trees with gas-powered, environment-destroying chain saws, blown 5th period science classes, randomly shot pool at the corner bar, raised children in fashion reminiscent of Ward and June Cleaver, shot photos of cattle and dogs for fun with disposable cameras bought at Wal-Mart, poisoned polite dinner conversations by using the wrong fork, and generally ravaged my country's popularity in France and the Palestinian territories in addition to the normal ravage of Nascar-loving rednecks and the normal and very particular ravaging which is done by the applied capitalist pig economic power of this country.
We call this investigation the Rabid Right-Wing Soldier Investigation.

"You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck as the Democratic Party presidential nominee."
I like how every lib in the universe acts as if they served because Kos did. I also like getting lectured on what "real men" do by Monsieur Kerre!
Real men apologize -- promptlly and without nuance

Jaime:
Whatever else people say about you, your creepy exhibitionism is kind of entertaining for me.
But I'm wondering how they're handling your home release and work program. It doesn't seem to be helping; I'd be happy to represent you at the hearing.
Such is your derangement that you don't realize that posting complaints about the number of posts is a bit OCD. Try washing your hands more often.

Markos "enrolled" in the military, which was his way of describing his enlistment long ago. He served in Germany in a support capacity, and we can be grateful that, while he was there, not a single tank or Russian charged through the Fulda Gap. Markos never apologized for his comment.

Hey Larry..... Kerry didn't get fragged by his own troops 'cos he wasn't over there long enough for it to happen! The closest he came to it was whe he fragged himself on a rock so he could secure his free pass home....

the thing i just can't understand is how a world-class asshat like kerry didn't get fragged/shot/sold to a russian-roulette gambling ring by his own troops. i know he was only in country for 30 minutes - just long enough to type out all those purple heart requests - but still. C'MON. 30 minutes of that grating, pompous, ass-eyed elitist droning on and on and ON ("then, in my junior year at harvard...") is plenty enough to see all there was to see of kerry.
hollywood and kerry himself told us that out guys over there were all stoned-out babykillers decked out with 'ear' necklaces and 'finger-bone' cardigans, so it MUST be true, right?
i just don't get it. isn't there ANYthing the guy's ever said that turns out to be true?

Keep it up. The clarion call of the Republican 2006 campaign. "Ignore Iraq. John Kerry said something stupid."

Dan...change your "The Nation" link to "The New Republic." Pot, kettle, and all that, but...
Well said, BTW. Kerry really is an a$$hat.

Yep! Next. You asshats always try that crap. And I volunteered, so eff off.

Kos served his country in the military (did you?), apologized for his ill-considered "screw them" remark. The fact is, that's all you have on Markos, and he has explained it many, many times - that he was enraged at contractors working as mercenaries were making obscene amounts of money doing tasks US soldiers were being payed next to nothing to do while assuming far more serious risks. Grow up, finally, okay?
