Along with proclaiming Steny Hoyer's election as Majority Leader a victory for Nancy Pelosi, Arianna Huffington also discovers that it wasn't Peace with Honor, America actually won in Vietnam, the South struck a blow in favor of slavery with their rout of the North in the Civil War and, out of sight of the CIA, the Soviet union is still intact and going strong.
as the debate on Iraq threatens to enter the twilight zone.
Twilight Zone, indeed. But this sentence is the heart of that matter.
What's more, we even have the New York Times -- not George Bush or Dick Cheney, mind you, but the editorial page of the Times -- arguing for more troops to be sent "in one last push to stabilize Baghdad." First McCain, now the Times -- the peace through escalation meme is catching on.
Arianna's twilight zone starts and ends with her confusing peace with victory as the ultimate goal of military confrontation. I believe her reasoning actually betrays a great deal about the way many on the Left think, while also explaining her view on the Hoyer versus Murtha debacle. Winning and losing are irrelevant, so long as things are quiet and people give the appearance of being on the same team. And that's supposed to represent the view of the world for the reality based community?
Pelosi and Murtha will continue to be at odds with Hoyer behind the scenes, something we'll likely see play out over the next two years. If we left Iraq tomorrow, tens of thousands of Iraqis would soon be slaughtered - far more than are dying now. But that's all fine with Arianna. It's peaceful in the twilight zone, who cares if no one really won anything.

Peace through escalation? Well, that is nowhere close to my plan for stabilizing Iraq unless you mean REAL escalation and not just this 'more troops' business...

A nice little bomb explosion? We've done that before.

Its "rout", not "route", unless Lee built a road to Gettysburg.

So, leaving poor Arianna in the twilight zone for a minute.
How then is victory in Iraq to be defined?
How do the Coalition of the Willing know when its time to recall the troops?
What will the banners on Main Street read when the boys come marching home?

Everytime Arianna talks all I can think about is how much she sounds like Eva Gabor on Green Acres going on and on about how the "electricicals" doesn't work.

ha ha..... Wasn't that Zsa Zsa, Doc? Too funny. I've thought the exact same thing. I hear Arianna and immediately think of Arnold Ziffle.

No it was Eva, but they are pretty interchangable

The entire HuffPo setup, and in fact Arianna's conversion to liberalism (she was a rightie before) is all about her fucked up ego- she just wants attention. Why they have her on talking heads shows opining in her ignorant, ill-informed and asinine way is beyond me, what the hell has she ever done other than marry money and scam a bunch of it when the marriage was over.
The only reason the huffpost gets so much attention is that libs will lionize ANYONE who takes a hard left political slant, be it Moore or Murtha or Scarlett Johannsen.
That's why I was so glad to see Mel Gibson come out against the war. Let them have him, we don't want him anyway.
