Aww ... those bad people aren't buying our records. And now the evil Rethuglicans have influenced the media preventing us from running our bash Bush / Republicans ad right before an election.
I can't recall ever seeing anyone so desperate to try and kick start their career.
"It's a sad commentary about the level of fear in our society that a movie about a group of courageous entertainers who were blacklisted for exercising their right of free speech is now itself being blacklisted by corporate America," Harvey Weinstein said in a statement. "The idea that anyone should be penalized for criticizing the president is profoundly un-American."
Shudder, the liberal elitist is questioning our patriotism. I'm outraged!!
lol Actually, like 99.9% of the rest America, I don't even care what the idiots say or think, let alone sing. That they think they are entitled to force themselves on the public is the real joke. It's a free world and the free world has told the Dixie Twits to take a hike. They should take along their instruments and serenade trees, or something. It seems a captive audience is the only way they can get one these days - and that's no one's fault but their own.

They weren't blacklisted.
I used to be a huge Dixie Chicks fan. I own their first two CDs, and was looking forward to their third.
Then Maines stuck her foot in her mouth. I could have forgiven that eventually. But it was everything they did afterward that permanetly soured me, (and most of their former fans) on them.
Radio stations didn't blacklist them, they simply stopped playing them, because every time they played a Dixie Chicks song, the station was deluged with complaints.
Even they should have been smart enough to realize that country music fans are among the most patriotic people in the country.

"They weren't blacklisted."
Yes they were. Corporate broadcasting companies instituted the radio bans. This was not a grass roots movement. Or do you people take credit for organzing CD burning protests?

They weren't blacklisted, despite the delusional post above. No reputable broadcaster is going to touch these hysteric Bush-bashers with a forum just before election---another transparent attempt to make an end run around campaign financing laws [Air America is another culprit, though thankfully no one listens to their gobbledegook.]

You know Dave. Only Delusional people would bitch about Bush Bashing when only 30-35% of the American people support him and the war in Iraq.
You, my friend are on the wrong side. You, my friend are in the minority.

It seems America is ashamed that George Bush is from America. Now why is it, I'M the one always sourcing and providing evidence and I'm the once called a liar by right wing Bolshieviks.

dan. re your 'dixie chicks and nbc' post..
of course, it's all been said re the 'chicks'. and nbc for that matter. but, i haven't seen it suggested that the decision at nbc was not simply that the ad's were poorly concieved and produced and thus would not serve best their democratic agenda. count the reasons.
a previous post: "No reputable broadcaster is going to touch these hysteric Bush-bashers with a forum just before election.."
no, exception to two points..
the post implies nbc to be a 'reputable broadcaster'. i ask the definition of 'reputable'?
second, i'd just suggest, my opinion, that nbc would air anything that could hopefully degrade the president, and his supporters as me. nbc feared the spots would work against their cause.
i'd like to drag their asses into a tax court and demand the lost revenue on this decision was rather in fact a cash contribution to the dnc.

Yes...the georgesoroshillaryclintongayfagagendanbccnnmsnbccbsabcespnmichaelmoore conspiracy. The idea of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy is laughable, but everyone is out to get the most helpless, most victimized group in the world; White, middle class, christian, conservative Republicans and their helpless majority.
I'm sorry that every time someone says something bad about your king, you whine like a baby. Grow a pair. No wonder the lot of you pussed out of Vietnam...and Iraq.

Jaime: Try fucking off and wasting someone else's time, you arrogant, self-important little douchebag.
Posted by: qwfwq | Friday, October 27, 2006 at 08:34 PM
No, I'm not self important...I just know the whole right wing bully thing is played out. The way to beat a bully is to kick the coward in the nuts.

and so here is another theory of mine i will share..
the blogs have certainly become a major force in the political landscape. the traditional media, and the folks running for office, both toward the same end are quickly coming to the end of that era where their words are accepted at face value. without question. we now have a much more informed population that demands the documentation. and so the game is falling apart.
now, blogs representing that kind of power are dangerous [to those who do not deal in truth]. and so the question beggs, how does the Left destroy or at best marginalize this powerful new force? some ways probably but for sure, headon with fact and logic will never work. and so maybe we pick away from the bottom.. degrade the authors content by virtue of thoughtless, rude, incomprehensible comments on whatever subject. yes, let's make it look like the majority of the readers are neanderthals. and thus so must be the author? a small effect possibly but probably worth the trouble [and minor expense]?
and so i wonder how many evil little gnomes are currently typing away comments at $15/hr, buried down in some urban internet sweatbox. is there a portrait of George Soros and Howard Dean hanging over the water cooler? and if so, whom is holding who upside down?

meaux: Well, I notice Jaime's face is pretty red.

Yes. I get beaucoup bucks from George Soros.
I'm the one that provided links to scientists re: Michael J. Fox.
I'm the one that provided links that explained the events in Webb's book.
Dan Riehl's buddies are spewing racist-tinged attacks. Dan Riehl's buddyies are responding to my links to polling numbers with 'fuck you you fucking fuck.'
Dan Riehl's new buddy is purposefully calling embryonic stem cells fetal stem cells.
Not a single right wing commenter is substantiating or sourcing ANYTHING. I mean ANYTHING.
And I doubt the author who wrote "Yes, one of the Jerky Boyz, Michael J. Fox supports McCaskill" can have his work degrade any further. Get it! Jerky Boyz? It's funny because he's crippled.
Posted by: jaime | Friday, October 27, 2006 at 09:11 PM
Barbie, you're the only one who thinks Fox's disability is humorous. Someone must have stepped on your dick or something. You really seem to be having a bad day.
Incidentally, I like your tee-shirt. Is that Che?

Screw'em. I don't see anything in the 1st amendment giving guarantees of venue or audience.
Let'em stand on an orange crate in Harvard Square and howl like all the other moonbats.

"Child rearing practices in the the Telugu-speaking people of India include behaviors of touching and kissing the penis. The meaning of these customs is not erotic or sexual, but if engaged in in America would most likely be misconstrued and the parents suspected of child sexual abuse. This example illustrates the importance of transcultural issues in assessing the meaning of genital gestures and practices."

jaime first off we are in the US and sticking your kids penis inside of the parents mouth is sexually abuse. Who cares what they do in India, Africa or any other backwards country. Second we heard the same garbage from you liberals before the Presidential election and look who won. Just wait until this election and see who will remain the winners. I have no doubt some Democrates will pick up seats but they will not win. This country could not stand if a liberal democrate like yourself every wins power. People like you would be saying it is ok to stick a kids penis in our mouth to make other cultures happy. Brent

"jaime first off we are in the US and sticking your kids penis inside of the parents mouth is sexually abuse."
This didn't actually happen. It was in a book. Jim Webb didn't endorse it, and his characters who observed the event didn't either.
"This country could not stand if a liberal democrate(sp) like yourself every wins power"
America seemed to do fine under Kennedy and Roosevelt.
"People like you would be saying it is ok to stick a kids penis in our mouth to make other cultures happy"
Yes. That's exactly it. You nailed it.

those poor dear gals! you rightwing bastards are so mean to them...all just 'cause they curried favor with foreigners by poormouthing their president and their country while on foreign soil. never mind that's always been the gold standard for scumminess! they had records to sell!
seriously, though, the poor things sound all depressed and stuff. wasn't there something in this blog recently about how a good whipping with a birch branch, over a long period of time, can help cure depression? sure there was!
i, and my humble nail-studded birch branch, hereby volunteer to help those dear dear gals with their feelings of rejection and the odd sense that most people view them with a mixture of dislike and contempt. (whap!) "take THAT, fatso!" (whap!) "feeling any better yet?" (whap!)

"America seemed to do fine under Kennedy and Roosevelt."
WTF????? First of all Kennedy was more conservative than GWB ever dreamed he could be. Dems today would hate his ass, though the economy was fantastic. He also began the expansion of Vietnam and supported the invasion of Cuba (until they begged for the planes he promised) Most of Roosevelts administration was during the worst depression this country suffered since 1893. Only WWII broke that misery. Roosevelt also gave into the racists at every turn, like when the "scientists" wanted to inject black men with syphillis to experiment with the disease. You really need to pick better examples.

I kinda feel for the ditzy snits and blame the public school system for teaching them that their freedom of expression comes w/out responsibility. Unfortunately we will never know how much of this disdain for them is solely because they slammed the president in someone elses country or simply because ..... THEY SUCK!!! How far did they really expect ripping off Stevie Nicks or one song about committing a murder would get them? So there it is ditzy snits, one of you is ugly, another is a fat ass w/ a big mouth and you all suck so your record sales were dropping before this. Still, it's sad that we cannot be forced to buy their drivel just because they have a "right" to say what they want to.
Posted by: Rick | Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 09:34 AM
Dan I am certain since I read here everyday that you have said much worse things about people than they have said about Bush and you do it all while under the protection of Freedom of Sppech. And here you are downing others for doin just that. You do not have to agree, but why do you all have to be such assholes. Why the name calling and personal jabs. Oh thats right that how you conservatives play politics.
Posted by: thejohnson8 | Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 10:19 AM
Wether you agree or they do have the freedom of speech and should be able to express that. I don't know these girls or their music, I believe they should have known that most of their fans wouldn't like this opinion, so they should take the consesquences.
Posted by: mylena | Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 11:20 AM
You are correct, Mylena.
Funny how freedom of speech ultimately boils down to class.
