As Ed at Captain's Quarters points out, Jim Webb has been exposed for taking credit for something he did not do - leading the effort to have the image of a Black soldier included in the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial.
That kind of action is a kind of theft -- robbing the people who deserve the credit to build a persona based on falsehood. It's at least dishonest. Webb should save the resume-padding for his literary career and apologize to the men he slighted.
Unfortunately for Webb, it isn't the first time.
The problem is Webb has been widely cited making the ridiculous claim of having "tripled the number of billets available to women as Secretary of the Navy” and putting together "a task force which opened up more operational billets to women than any other secretary of the Navy in history” on “his own initiative”.
That claim, made to counter his sinking ratings with female voters due to previous insensitive remarks, was as easily refuted as this latest Webb charade. It would appear that the man who fancies himself a left over of the Reagan legacy, despite resisting Mrs. Reagan's request to stop invoking the former President's image in an ad, has forgotten one of the core principles of that very thing.
Character matters.
It appears Jim Webb doesn't have it.
