Ford: Redistribute Wealth Through Social Security
So much for the Conservative Democrat myth. And the second quote below is as funny as it is obviously contrived. Is he playing Otter in Animal House now? Maybe Harold doesn't want Social Security dollars going to people who don't love God! video
Similarly, Ford appeared to be advocating means-testing for Social Security recipients without exactly saying so. His formula involved distributing benefits “first to the people who need it most.”
As if to offset the image of himself as a playboy in one of the most discussed attack ads, the oft-discussed "bimbo" ad, the 36-year-old Ford took pains to address several audience questioners in their ‘20s as “young fellow.”

first of all I like to say that medicare is doing the same now, the wealthier you are the more you pay (I believe by 2009 3 times as much)... done by republicans...
it's a tough call... wealthy people put in the most in the social securtiy system and then in the end you tell them &***!!!....
and when they start nibbling on the 'wealthy' people, how long do you think it will take to nibble on the middle class?
they should have left it alone.... the moment they start nibbling, it will fall apart.

Anyone has the option of not accepting their medicare payments when they come due. Wouldn't it be interesting to ask those who have messed with the system if they would be willing to give up their medicare - and then publish a list of those who gave it up. The very wealthy obviously don't need it..... so, why not give it up? hah..

Paying for something and not getting it is almost a textbook definition of fraud.
Of course, raping the wealthy, or even the just moderately well off, has always been a cottage industry in this country (and europe).
If it gets bad enough they'll just start fleeing. I was living in Ft. Lauderdale around the time Bush v1.0 had a "luxury tax" enacted on things like expensive cars, expensive boats, etc. That tax drove all the boat yards in south FL into the gutter and caused hundreds of ordinary people to lose their jobs. It took over a decade for the south FL boat industry to recover.
The wealthy weren't morons -- they just bought and registered their boats in foreign countries that catered to such things.

@ phoenix, I think when you pay for social security your whole life you ought to get it by the time you retire .... it doesn't matter if you are rich or poor (it could be also that the 'poor' person gets more social security in his/her life then he/she ever earned, is that fair?) if you then voluntarily want to give it up, thats fine.
I think people will back off of Medicare when they pay 3/4 times more a month, they rather selfinsure, which will make medicare cost more.

Mylena,
Yes, I agree that if you pay in, you should get it back. Of course, that's right. What I was suggesting was that all the wealthy politicos who figure the 'wealthy' should 'share' their social security retirement with the poor and who strut and fret this idea that the wealthy have too much - fine. Every American has the option of not taking their social security. Many don't need it, nor do they want it because of the tax increase. My suggestion was to challenge those who feel the poor don't get a fair shake to give up their social security to the 'greater good'. Then publish the list of those generous folks.
Talk is cheap and all that.....
