According the The Hill, there were Republicans involved in leaking the initial emails to the media. The main problem with all of this is that, according to all reports, the emails were shared with the House and the parents of the boy didn't want it taken any further. So, whoever did share the emails around was doing so without the authorization of the original source.
And Brian Ross saying he was too busy to get to the story until now is also a lot of BS. No one holds a story which has the potential to damage a member of the House, unless they do it for a reason. Ross should be ashamed to even make such a preposterous claim.
The source who in July gave news media Rep. Mark Foley’s (R-Fla.) suspect e-mails to a former House page says the documents came to him from a House GOP aide.
That aide has been a registered Republican since becoming eligible to vote, said the source, who showed The Hill public records supporting his claim.
The same source, who acted as an intermediary between the aide-turned-whistleblower and several news outlets, says the person who shared the documents is no longer employed in the House.
If you're following this, you'll want to see this post at The Corner. And also check in a MacsMind and Gateway Pundit. And probably a thousand other blogs. This is out of control, now. I don't see how Hastert can last.
