Yes, it appears they most certainly did. By running the Michael J Fox medical research ad for Cardin, who voted against stem cell research, the only rationale for having done it was a Democrat victory, not any alleged step forward in fighting disease.
Funny, Republicans are evil for responding to Fox's emotional appeal, but it's just fine for the Dems to abuse sick people for political gain. It's obvious who the repugnant actor is in all this, I doubt it's Fox and it certainly isn't the Republicans. The Dems have no shame.
Michael Steele said, “There is only one candidate in this race who voted against stem cell research and it’s Congressman Ben Cardin. Ben Cardin had a chance to support stem cell research that would not destroy human embryos, and he voted against it

Michael J. Fox is CANADIAN. Of course, his illness forced a "change." And, even though the Canadian health care system is just fine, don't cha know? Fox became an American citizen in 2000.
I'm not impressed with is pitch. It's typical for liberals to be full of "dreams." As if there's a cure that could be found, just for Michael J. Fox, who has DRUG RELATED Parkinson's. His lifestyle did this to him.
There's something WRONG with actors (who basically just read lines), to try and influence how people go out and vote. Especially, given his background!
I also think this will backfire. Not just in real life, where his TV ad will be met with counter-ads that bite him in the arse. He's left this out there to "live on" long after election day, November 7th, is past.
Christopher Reeves was also a poster boy for this stuff. But ya know? There are lots of people who'd have advised him not to climb on the back of a horse. These things, like not wearing seat belts, sure look sad, when accidents happen.
But we shall see? I think there's something ghoulish about an actor using himself as some sort of addled advertisement spokesperson. Will he next be selling DEPENDS?

That's kind of novel. DEPENDS.
Old lady with a wet arse:
"Damn those Democrats. With their stem-cell advances, I'm 123 years old and pissing myself all damn day. Just let me die.... Vote a greedy Republican in. They don't give a rat's ass about the old farts - you can tell cause they blew it back in 2005 with Social Security and I have to wear the same DEPENDS all day long. Damn it."

Cardin voted to override Bush's ban on stem cell research (the kind of research that holds promise, not the useless but placative of the religious right version you cite). You must be retarded if you don't understand that.
One last point: c***s*****.

Also, why the bizarre insistence that Michael J. Fox was kidnapped and brainwashed by the democracts and George Soros into making this ad? The only explanation I can come up with is that you have a crush on him, and this is the only way you can keep your heart from breaking in two.
If it's true, I feel for you. Love hurts, and no matter how many times we hear that, it doesn't make it any easier.

Oh, jpe,
My Depends runneth over at your clever ripostes. I have to agree with you: Love does hurt. That's why being a sucker of cocks is a good thing because you don't have to talk: and if you don't have verbal intercourse you won't get a crush on someone because their witnittery knocks you off your feet in a blaze of emotive concupiscence disguised as love.
Take my advice: Keep on Suckin'

Is this the same Michael Steele who complained that Oreo cookies were thrown at him and raining down like locusts and when it was investigated it was a couple of rowdy kids throwing shit at each other near the stage? That Michael Steele? The liar Michael Steele?
You can't handle looking at what a disease does to a person. It angers you to no end that staring at that living, breathing, human being blows up your whole ideological argument. You seethe as more and more people look at a clump of cells in a petri dish and then they look at the living person and they decide the person is more important.
So what do you do? If you're like your racist buddy Larry, you deliberately confuse Fetal and Embryonic stem cells. You deliberately confuse abortion clinics with fertility clinics. You deliberately compare the decades of adult stem cell research with the new science of ESC research. You lie and say Michael J. Fox is off his meds and that's why he shakes when a simple use of google or call to your friendly neighborhood doctor would prove the opposite. You deliberately ignore the ideological dilemma of being for Invetrofertilization and the dilemma that these embryos will be destroyed. 400,000 precious babies being destroyed and you don't give a shit. You also don't mind private funding going towards ESC research. A baby holocaust that you don't mind being funded by Merck. Why? Because you're hedging your bets. Your ideology is full of shit, because you will gladly take a potential cure for you or a loved one. You're no dummy.
And if all else fails, you resort to what you're buddy Larry does. Go after a person's percieved heritage.

He faked all that twitching. He can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time. !!

I've got a relative with early-onset Parkinsons (which she's had for =decades=) and there are people =on=meds= who do have twitching that bad. And some even worse symptoms, but I need not go into it here. He's not necessarily hamming it up. That's not a fruitful line of discussion. Also, saying he was victimized is not useful, as he's knowingly involved in this.
More to the point, which may help convince those who don't agree with the Catholic pro-life stance (which is also against IVF, unfortunately a stance not widely shared), is to look at the practical aspects. All the ESC "treatments" so far have had horrible results, especially for Parkinsons, many of these results likely being related to being embryonic stem cells taken from their "natural" location - so instead of organized growth, you get out-of-control cellular growth (aka cancer). ESCs are known for huge growth, and this is supposed to be their advantage...but this may be their downfall in producing non-cancerous side effects.
As well, the stem cells have to come from somewhere, and will likely involve egg harvesting from lots of women; egg harvesting is not a benign process involving huge doses of hormones and has even resulted in death (in a couple of cases).
To contrast against this, there is all sorts of other medical research out there (adult stem cells, cord blood, bone marrow, and things not at all related to genetic therapy) where results are being achieved. What's so great about ESCs that they must get attention in lieu of all the other stuff going on out there?
Lastly, what kind of accountability and oversight will there be? Look to what happened in South Korea when there was little controls on the "superstar" cloning researcher, with faked results and coercion of junior female researchers to provide eggs.

Here's the thing, meep. You sound like you would and should be FOR government funding of ESCR. Why? Because it creates the oversight you seek. It's a ridiculous argument to say I'm against federal intervention into ESCR because there's no federal oversight. Support the former, you get the latter.
Apollo 1 blew up on the launchpad during a test. Would you have said back then that we shouldn't try to fly to the moon because the one test had failed? What is done is basic research and not clinical testing. So a lab rat getting cancer in an early experiment is not and end result.
The argument about harvesting is stuff of science fiction. It isn't happening so there's no use in acting like it is. There are plenty of Embryos available for research. I still don't understand where this tract is coming from.
"What's so great about ESCs that they must get attention in lieu of all the other stuff going on out there?"
Just google "Embryonic Stem Cell Research" and you'll have your answer.
"Look to what happened in South Korea when there was little controls on the "superstar" cloning researcher,"
Science finds out frauds. Part of its methodology is tossing away fake information and false assumptions. This is about hope. It's about science. Practically the entire scientific community supports ESCR as a promising avenue to explore. Notice how the Dan Riehls of the world and the Rush Limbaugh's of the world never actually ask a doctor or neurologist what their ideas are? No..they make jokes about Jerky Boyz and lie about what the science really is. Don't believe them. Their not looking out for your relative with Parkinsons or my relative with MS. Their looking to make a name for themselves.
