Pardon me for pointing it out. But thirty years later remembering a brief distant conversation outdoors by a pond, isn't it quite possible Taylor heard the word neighbors, as opposed to the other? I doubt he'd hold up on the stand in a court of law.

The Allen camp released a statement from Allen's first wife refuting Taylor's story. Anne Waddell, who was married to Allen from 1980 to 1984, said she recalled Taylor coming to their home to buy a puppy.

"I can say with absolute certainty that his recollection that George said anything at all that could be considered racially insensitive is completely false," she said. "He would never utter such a word."

Waddell said, "I was the one who fished for the turtles in our pond because they were eating the young goslings. The person who ate the turtles was our neighbor."

What I take from all this is that politics as practiced in Va. and America have changed very little from the days of Thomas Jefferson. Politics is a contact sport. As Harry Truman said "If you can't take the heat you better get out of the kitchen".

George Allen has been in an elected office since 1983 (with a 3 year break). He has 20 years of PUBLIC records behind him. If it is necessary for any of these "revelations" to be brought to light, would have made more sense to do it long before 2006.

Well isnt it obvious that the reason it is coming out now is not only to try and defeat him for the Senate but also to stop his presidential ambitions right now?
Allen will win in Va. for the Senate since his supporters will not be changed at all by this smear campaign. However, his presidential hopes and ambitions have surely been ended.

2) The "noose" hanging from a Cypress Tree in his office was really an antenna so the tree would get better reception.

4) He thought those guys were from the Council of Convertible Citizens, and left when he couldn't find a single sofa.

Enron did not happen in eight months either, of course the dot-coms all went bust, NAFTA and Gatt went into high gear and assured US businesses moved away. The 86 million taken from federal employees retirement to prop up social security has finally been returned though. Had we begun building a few more refineries in the early nineties, fuel would be cheaper.
